Though it is thought the GX has always been larger than the RX, from 2015 to 2022, the RX is slightly longer and slightly wider than the GX and therefore the GX was considered smaller. All GX production has occurred at the Tahara plant in Japan, alongside the Land Cruiser Prado and the export-minded Toyota 4Runner.

- Summary: After just 6000 miles, all 4 of my tires have significant cracking on most of the blocks & sipes. I've already lose a few small sections of the blocks where these cracks have reached the tread. No punctures or blowouts, but I wonder how long they will be safe. Kenda claim all damage is caused by stone drilling as a result of driving dirt roads (I've done 3-400 miles on gravel roads) and refuse to uphold their warrantee, from my research this can't be damage due to stone drilling.

- Summary: Bought the vehicle new and has always been maintained by a dealer and mostly garage kept. We took it in to a local garage owner for air conditioning repair and he says we have a bigger problem and do we want to spend the money. The frame under the car is rusted through to the point of possibly snapping in half. We climbed under the car to confirm and took pictures. No warning, no recall and never a word from a dealer. I contacted Lexus and all they would say is there are no recalls for this vehicle and because of its age nothing and no compensation is required. KBB says the vehicle is worth approximately $10,000 but the fact is that it’s not saleable. In good conscience we couldn’t sell this vehicle to anyone! Toyota had a recall on the same frame, why was there none on this vehicle?

- Summary: S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING - LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM COMPLAINT REGARDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF HIS 2005 TOYOTA LEXUS GX470 *KB THE CONSUMER STATED AS HER HUSBAND WAS ENTERING THE GARAGE, HE SLOWED DOWN TO MOVE AROUND A GARBAGE PAIL IN THE GARAGE. AT THAT MOMENT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT A STORAGE SHELF AND THEN CRASHED THROUGH THE REAR WALL OF THE GARAGE. THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE CAUSED IT TO GO OVER THE FOUNDATION LIP OF THE REAR WALL. FORTUNATELY, THAT IS WHAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE FROM GOING FURTHER . - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2003-2006 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra and Sequoia, 2004-2006 Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX470 vehicles equipped with side curtain-shield-air bags. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may be improperly programmed, causing the side curtain-shield-air bags to deploy inadvertently.
- Consequence: If the side curtain-shield-air bags deploy unexpectedly, it can increase the risk of occupant injury.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control module with one that has improved programming, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-271-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is G0C and GLB.

It's been 11 (12) years and we're finally considering getting another car. We removed the third row seats and the 1/3 section of the second row, which has been perfect for getting the dog in and out. During long trips, one person can even lay out from the back door to the front seat (although we don't recommend it for safety reasons). We have never regretted taking out those seats, as it has doubled the space in the back. We also removed the third row from my LX, but kept the second row intact. Although the GX has had some issues, such as sunroof leaks and a malfunctioning shock system, we have still been able to tow trailers and haul heavy items safely. Despite these problems, we have had many positive experiences with the car. (UPDATE) After the second major sunroof leak was 'fixed', we drove the car 700 miles without any issues. However, when we took it out again after a week of being in the garage, we noticed the mildew was coming back and it was affecting our health. We decided to donate the car to a non-profit trail conservation group, who needed a substitute for their pickup truck. We believe it will serve them well for many years to come, despite the mildew. Meanwhile, my husband has decided to get the 2017 Honda Ridgeline and see if it can be a good substitute.When it's time for me to get a new car, I'll probably stick with Lexus, maybe the LX570. Although, I'm not sure when that will be as my 2005 LX 470 is still a workhorse and doing well.

I special ordered the 2005 GX470 Sport over 10 years ago and I absolutely love this car! With 150,000 miles on it, I have never had a single problem. I am very hesitant to trade it in, but when I do, I will definitely buy the same newer version. Great job, Lexus!

This older design has held up very well. Although it may lack some features compared to newer competition, it is so well executed that it doesn't really matter. As someone who has owned too many SUVs and been let down by their quality and resale value, I finally decided to look for the best 50K-60K SUV out there and worked backwards from the resale figures. What I found was a capable and incredibly reliable SUV, with stout mechanicals covered with Lexus jewelry. I have no complaints, and while my wish list isn't really valid since it generally wasn't allowed for in the design years ago, one thing amazes me: the HP & torque figures are pretty lame considering the weight (235/320 & 4900+), but Toyota somehow makes it feel much stronger.

The GX 470 is a fantastic combination of luxury and performance. You get the best of both worlds - the ability to go off-roading in difficult conditions while still enjoying a smooth ride like a high-end sedan. Overall, it's a great vehicle!

I never used to be a big fan of cars, as I usually find myself driving a carload of children to their various destinations. However, after driving all types and makes of cars, I have found myself completely committed to the Lexus GX 470! This SUV provides an incredibly comfortable ride and I have never experienced any maintenance issues. The dealership has even gone above and beyond to ensure my family's safety. I highly recommend this car to anyone in the market for an SUV. You'll be just as hooked as I am!
