The third-generation model introduced in 2023 uses the GX 550 moniker with a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine and GX 550h with a turbocharged hybrid electric 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
As of 2024, the GX is positioned between the larger LX or TX and the smaller RX. Though it is thought the GX has always been larger than the RX, from 2015 to 2022, the RX is slightly longer and slightly wider than the GX and therefore the GX was considered smaller. All GX production has occurred at the Tahara plant in Japan, alongside the Land Cruiser Prado and the export-minded Toyota 4Runner.

I've already lose a few small sections of the blocks where these cracks have reached the tread. No punctures or blowouts, but I wonder how long they will be safe. Kenda claim all damage is caused by stone drilling as a result of driving dirt roads (I've done 3-400 miles on gravel roads) and refuse to uphold their warrantee, from my research this can't be damage due to stone drilling.

We took it in to a local garage owner for air conditioning repair and he says we have a bigger problem and do we want to spend the money. The frame under the car is rusted through to the point of possibly snapping in half. We climbed under the car to confirm and took pictures. No warning, no recall and never a word from a dealer. I contacted Lexus and all they would say is there are no recalls for this vehicle and because of its age nothing and no compensation is required. KBB says the vehicle is worth approximately $10,000 but the fact is that it’s not saleable. In good conscience we couldn’t sell this vehicle to anyone! Toyota had a recall on the same frame, why was there none on this vehicle?

- Summary: BL 265/65R17 110S THIS TIRE EXPLODED AS I was existing the Harbor Fwy going south at Adams Blvd. The Lexus has an automatic system that prevents instant breaking when the tire pressure exceptionally low tire pressure or wet pavements due to weather conditions and or slippery pavements. Therefore as I was existing the Lexus did not allow me to stop as I normal did for over 17 years. The Lexus then hit the rear of the car stop at the stop light. These defective tires must be recalled so other life's will be spared. Many folks have loss there life in USA and many foreign countries. I have purchased new tires from Firestone for over 16 years. Firestone is the only tires company we allowed to replace all our tires. This is for our 2004 gx 470. Please assist the American consumers to stop these defective tires that could kill someone while you are reading this complaint.

- Summary: Once existing the car the Officernoticed that my rear driver tire had expolded. This is what caused the accident and caused me tremendously back pain problems. The tires were purchase new from Firestone Complete Auto Care as we only purchased Firestone tires beginning with our first replacement tires until present.Thank God my life was spared. Unfortunately this is the second major conflict with Firestone and there defective products and maintenance schedules. Lexus rear automatic lowering up and down rear end system has product defects also. The brakes systems would not stop the Lexus 2004 GX 470. They would not stop as many times of previous stops.

This car has it all, and with Lexus' great leasing program, the cost is kept down. The only downside is the on-board computer system, which may take a bit of time to learn. But don't worry, the manual is very helpful and easy to understand!

This is a fantastic SUV that offers great value even in the base model. It has a smooth ride and a comfortable interior, and despite its weight and V-8 engine, it still manages to get good MPG. The handling is also good. The only downside is that entry and exit using the running boards can be cumbersome. The fit and finish, both inside and out, are typical of the high quality Lexus brand. If you switch to Michelin X-Country tires, which in my opinion should come standard on this type of vehicle, you'll have an even better driving experience. It would be great if the rear seats could fold flush, and if the rear door could convert into a tailgate. Overall, this is a great SUV.

This car gives you more for your money than any other car I've owned. The Nav and DVD are nice, but the safety features are a must (side impact air bags, curtain and dash as well). When comparing this car with others, make a list of options, fuel economy, and price, and this car wins hands down.

The car is an attempt to align the practical and fun nature of an off-road vehicle with a luxury one. However, it seems that the two don't mix well. On the bright side, the exterior lines are quite pleasant. Unfortunately, engaging the 4-wheel drive is awkward and inefficient, which only adds to the already overpriced product.

This is a great car overall, but unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with both sides front suspension sensors and back sensors going bad. Unfortunately, there is no cheap way to fix these problems. When the back goes out, it can feel like you are riding on a 4 wheeler. I have owned 3 Toyota Sequoias before and I would have chosen another one if I had known about this suspension problem. In my opinion, the best vehicle ever was the 2007 Toyota Sequoia. While this Lexus has many fancy additions that make for costly repairs, it is still a Toyota and is long lasting, built well, and tough. If you prefer a more basic Toyota, I would recommend skipping the fancy Lexus. Additionally, it is worth noting that this car is smaller than the Sequoia and has a gas mileage of 15-18 mpg, which may be a downside for some.

The consistent issue with transmission slippage has not been resolved by the dealer. Despite this, the dealer has refused to acknowledge the issue. Additionally, the tailgate design is not aesthetically pleasing and the ride quality is comparable to that of a tractor. While I had a great experience with my LX, I cannot say the same for the GX.

We purchased this car in November, just before Thanksgiving, but I have to admit that I'm not entirely satisfied with it. We compared it to the Tahoe and Escalade and ultimately chose the Lexus due to its high resale value. However, I find the lack of trunk space with the third row folded up and the bulky 4WD shifter to be quite frustrating. Most manufacturers have moved to a touch-button 4WD system, but Lexus has opted to keep the shifter, which takes up a significant portion of the center console. Additionally, the positioning of the shifter and 4WD controls makes it difficult to reach the heated seat controls, which can be quite inconvenient. Lastly, the transmission leaves something to be desired, as it shifts into a higher gear as soon as I begin to accelerate. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that we can find a way to make it work for our needs.
