2001 Lexus Gs430 problems

The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.
Lexus marketed the GS as a performance sedan competing in the mid-luxury class, between its compact executive IS and large/flagship LS. The GS shared its chassis with one of Toyota's longest-running nameplates, the Toyota Crown premium sedans until 2011.
The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2001-08-21
- VIN: JT8BL69S510
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: MY LEXUS GS 430 2001 HAS A PROBLEM THAT I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT FROM THE TIME PURCHASED. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE FRONT END. I HAVE RETURNED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE CAR WONDERING ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE DRIVER LITERALLY HAS TO FIGHT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE EMPLOYEES AT LEXUS OF MASSAPEQUA, DRIVE THE CAR AND SAY THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG. IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT IN THE FRONT END, THEN THE CAUSE OF THE DANGEROUS STEERING COULD BE THE TIRES. I AM NOT A TECHNICIAN AND DO NOT KNOW A LOT ABOUT MECHANICS. SO I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT TAKE A MECHANIC TO RECOGNIZE A DANGEROUS DRIVING HAZARD. I DO FEEL THAT I AM IN DANGER WHEN DRIVING MY LEXUS. *NLM

I absolutely love my '01 GS430! Even though I bought it used with 68k miles in '05, it has been a joy to drive. Despite the previous owner not taking as good care of it as I do, the car still endures and rides like a dream. It's amazing how good the gas mileage is on the highway for a V8, I've been averaging 23.5 to 24 mpg on my highway trips.

This car is the best fit for me out of all the cars I've test driven, including 3 BMWs (330, 540, 740), 2 Mercedes (C class, E class), and 3 Audis (A4, A6 - all engine types, A8). It has the most room and feels the best. Plus, with 300 horses, it's a real thrill to drive! I've never had any problems driving it in the snow with winter tires. I'm planning to trade it in for a GS430/SC430 next year. Overall, I'm really happy with this car and would highly recommend it.

I absolutely fell in love with my first Lexus! From the moment I sat in the passenger seat, I knew I had to have it. The drive was amazing and I couldn't resist. I now look forward to my daily commute of 37 miles each way. It's hard to pick just one thing that I love about the 430 - the ride is so smooth, the power is incredible (it drove just as well at 130 MPH as it did at 60), and the mileage is impressive (averaging 22.6 even when I let it have its head). The luxurious leather and air flow through the seats are just the cherry on top. Keep up the great work, Lexus - this 430 won't be my last!

I purchased a 'high mileage' used 2001 GS 430 five months ago with 140,000 miles. As someone who has owned a wide variety of sports cars, trucks, and sedans over the years, both new and used, I can confidently say that this Lexus is one of the best. It's an absolute bargain, costing tens of thousands less than a comparable new sports sedan. The previous owners had it dealer maintained, and it's still tight all around. The 300hp V8 makes it very fast, and I receive compliments on it from friends and strangers alike. I have had zero issues with this car, and it runs perfectly. Compared to German sedans, this car is a steal, and I smile when I see 5-series BMW's now. If you're in the market for a used sports sedan, you can't beat the GS430.

As humble as it may seem, this car craves excitement. It can be difficult to drive conservatively in such a thrilling machine. The handling, ride, and performance are exceptional, but words cannot fully capture the experience of driving the GS430. I do let it loose on occasion and it's cool to know that I can leave a 5.0 Mustang in the dust.
