I’ve looked online and found more incidences like mine and are happening around the same mileage. This can cause major engine damage if left untreated. I feel it’s worth an investigation to save people from future issues like this. Vehicles should last well over 100,000 miles without major engine repair like piston rings. Unfortunately I have no documentation to prove this I have no money to take it to the shop but I’ve changed the oil about 4 times in the past 3 months. It sounds like maintenance needs to be carried out but I can assure you that something this major should not be happening at 110,000 miles. Thank you for your time

- Summary: This complaint is in regard to a safety recall (NHTSA Recall# 23V652) of our 2013 Kia Rio. On November of 2023, we received an interim notice in the mail about a Kia Rio recall. The recall occurred in September 2023, two months earlier. The notice detailed that the Rio had a safety risk of an engine fire while parked or driving. Owners were advised to limit their driving and park their cars outdoors away from other cars or buildings until the part is available. This is not an option for us. The part is still not available, five months after the recall. Our Rio has been sitting in our driveway, next to the house, since November 2023 and we're still paying auto insurance on it. We do not feel safe driving it, nor keeping it parked close to the house. It has been a hardship for our family to have one less vehicle to drive. I have written a complaint to Kia corporate and have not heard anything back from them. So far Kia's only resolution to this delay is for consumers to just wait for the part. That is unacceptable.

- Summary: My 2013 KIA Rio began dying while I was driving it in mid January 2024. Approximately three weeks after this began occurring, my oil pressure sensor light started flickering when I would turn the corner. As soon as I got home, I checked the oil and it was empty. I had not previously experienced this and always kept up with the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. The incidences of my car dying while driving have increased while I waited to get into the dealership to have it checked (it was a one week wait and there were no earlier appointments available. I took my car to Suntrup KIA South. Service Advisor Brian Richter texted me to ask if he could call me. During our phone conversation, he stated that this is a known issue with KIA vehicles excessively burning oil, which then causes the catalytic converter to clog and the engine to die. It is a fatal flaw and there is no fix other than to replace the engine, which I would have to pay for. He said KIA extended certain warranties, but mine was not one of them. The last time I drove my car before taking it to the dealership, I barely missed getting hit when my car stopped while turning a corner and there was a car behind me. I found information indicating that a class action lawsuit had previously been filed, but was dropped by the class with no details given as to the reason. I now have to buy a car because it will cost more to replace the engine than the car is worth. It only has 107,000 miles on it. I would appreciate any help or advice that you can offer. Thank you.

(Kia) is recalling certain 2010-2019 Borrego, 2014-2016 Cadenza, 2010-2013 Forte, Forte Koup, Sportage, 2015-2018 K900, 2011-2015 Optima, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, Soul, 2012-2017 Rio, 2011-2014 Sorento, and 2010-2011 Rondo vehicles. The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) may experience an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the HECU fuse, free of charge. I purchased my Rio LX hatchback just over a month ago. It has a 6-speed automatic transmission and all the necessary amenities for a basic daily driver. I'm not one for fluff on cars, but this one is nicely equipped. The little 1.6-liter engine is spirited off the line (although it slows down a bit after that), and provides me with decent numbers. I drive in a lot of heavy, stop-and-start traffic, and I get about 26-28 mpg overall. On the highway, I get around 40 mpg, even without the active ECO button engaged (which can turn the car into a slug).

Runs great after 85000 miles! I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any major engine problems. While it may not have much power for highway use, it will certainly get you around safely. I understand that road noise can be loud, but all in all, it sounds like you got a good car for the price.

We've owned this car for three years now. The only significant repair we've had to make was replacing all four disc brakes, which was quite expensive. Other than that, I had to replace one headlight that had gone milky.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I've had this car for 4 years and it has been very reliable. I've made sure to keep up with regular maintenance to ensure it stays in great condition.

I've owned this car for 7 years and I can't say enough about how good it has been to me. Although I had to put some work into it due to issues with sensors and engine misfires, I'm still satisfied. The fixes were all fairly cheap. I recently upgraded to a 2018 Rio because my catalytic converter needs to be replaced. If it didn't, I would have driven it until the engine or transmission blew.

My daughter recently purchased a Kia Rio, but unfortunately, we experienced a sidewall blowout and were surprised to find that there was no spare tire or jack included. Instead, there was only a small pump and some compound that was not suitable for repairing sidewall damage, which is the most common type of damage to modern radial tires. It is concerning that the salesman at Courtesy Kia in Henderson, NV did not inform her of this. I visited three different Kia dealerships and was disappointed with the lack of customer service. Additionally, the battery that came with my car was incorrect and died after only two years. When I brought it to the attention of the dealer, they were unable to provide the correct battery.
