Common 1992 Dodge Caravan problems
The Dodge Caravan, including the 1992 model, has been known for several common problems based on complaints from owners. While the search results do not provide specific information about the 1992 Dodge Caravan, they do highlight issues that may be relevant to that model year.
- Transmission issues: Shifting problems have been reported by owners of various model years, including the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. Some drivers have experienced difficulty maintaining a constant speed, with the transmission downshifting after pressing the gas pedal and then shifting up when easing off the gas. This can cause the vehicle to shudder and stall on the last downshift while slowing to a stop.
- Power door lock failure: This issue is particularly common in the 2005 Dodge Caravan, where the power door locks may malfunction due to a faulty key or internal switch. This can cause the doors to appear locked when they are not, or for the locking mechanism to fail altogether.
- Crankshaft seal popping out: This problem has been reported by owners of the 2006 Dodge Caravan, where the front crankshaft seal may pop out, leading to leaks and potential engine damage.
- Throttle body cleaning: Some 2003 Dodge Caravan owners have reported engine stalling due to a dirty throttle body, which can be caused by oily residue blocking air flow in the closed throttle. Cleaning the throttle body usually corrects this issue.
- Transmission pump failure: Certain model years, including the 2015-2016 Dodge Grand Caravan, have experienced transmission pump failure, which can cause a loss of hydraulic pressure and potentially lead to stalling or other transmission issues.
- Rear brake caliper piston insufficiency: The 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan, along with several other models, has been recalled due to rear brake caliper pistons that may have an insufficient coating, potentially reducing rear brake performance.
- Powertrain control module failure: Certain model years, including the 2018 Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Grand Cherokee, RAM 1500 and Promaster, Fiat 500x, Dodge Journey, Challenger, Charger and Durango, and Chrysler 300x, 2017-2018 Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles, and 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica vehicles, have been recalled due to powertrain control modules that may be equipped with a voltage regulator chip in the circuit board that may fail, causing a stall or a no-start condition.
- Fuel pump gasket deterioration: Certain Vantage-modified 2016-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles have been recalled due to a fuel pump gasket that may deteriorate, allowing fuel to leak.
While the search results do not provide specific information about the 1992 Dodge Caravan, these common problems across various model years can provide insight into potential issues that may affect the 1992 model.
