1999 Jaguar Xjr problems
The Jaguar XJ (X308) is a full-size luxury saloon car manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars for years 1997–2003 across two generations and featuring the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine and Jaguar independent rear suspension. It was the third and final evolution of the Jaguar XJ40 platform that had been in production since 1986. It was preceded by the Jaguar XJ (X300).
Exterior
The X308 kept much of the same exterior styling as its predecessor, the Jaguar XJ (X300), carrying its rounded four-headlamp bonnet, low roofline, sloping tail, and wrap-around rear light clusters. From the front, the two generations can be differentiated by the shape of the indicator lenses (rectangular on the X300, oval on the X308), and also by the shape of the fog lamps and lower valance air intake, both of which are more rounded on the X308.
The front and rear bumpers were both changed along with the taillights which had red/clear lenses rather than red/grey lenses. The grille surround and badging was slightly changed. The headlight fixtures also included forward parking lights housed with the brights, new to X308.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-06-13
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: ENGINE DEFECT - INABILITY OF JAGUAR MAINTENANCE TO REPAIR: THE 1999 JAGUAR XJR WHICH WAS PURCHASED JUNE 2002 WITH 21,715 MILES ON IT FOR $40,000.00. VEHICLE WAS LEMON FROM BEGINNING. ENGINE STALLED AT HIGH SPEEDS, SHOWED ITSELF TWICE AS EARLY AS JANUARY 2003, ONLY TO CONTINUE SHOWING ITSELF 3 MORE TIMES IN 2003, 2 MORE TIMES IN 2004, 1 MORE TIME IN 2005, AND ONE MORE TIME IN 2006,. THEN, AGAIN ON JUNE 13, 2007, A TOTAL OF 10 TIMES. EXAMPLE OF SERIOUS ENGINE STALLING DEFECT. ON MAY 5, 2003, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE JAGUAR. SHE WAS ON THE DULLES TOLL ROAD TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE DIED. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE TOLL ROAD. CARS WERE ?WHIZZING? BY AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT OF OUR STALLED VEHICLE. MIRACULOUSLY, NO CAR HIT THE STOPPED CAR, AND LUCKILY, SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE, WHICH COULD NOT ALWAYS BE RESTARTED WHEN THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED, AND DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO THE JAGUAR DEALER. CONTINUED SERIOUS PROBLEM: THESE NUMEROUS INCIDENTS THAT WE ENCOUNTERED OVER THE YEARS ARE POTENTIAL ?ROAD FATALITIES? JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN, AND THE PROBABILITY THAT ONE DAY WE WILL BE A ?ROAD FATALITY? IS INCREASING RAPIDLY. I HAVE TRIED A NUMBER OF TIMES TO WORK WITH THE JAGUAR DEALER TO SOLVE THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM TO NO AVAIL. SPOKE WITH JAGUAR EXECUTIVE ON MAY 5, 2003 IN ATTEMPT TO REPLACE VEHICLE. I AGAIN SPOKE WITH THIS SAME EXECUTIVE BECAUSE OF CONTINUED ENGINE STALLING, ATTEMPTED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO HAVE UNSAFE VEHICLE REPLACED IN A FAIR AND REASONABLE MANNER IN JUNE 2007. I BELIEVE THAT IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THIS PROBLEM BE RESOLVED BEFORE WE RUN OUT OF LUCK AND A POTENTIAL ?ROAD FATALITY? BECOMES A REALITY AND AFFECTS US ALL. NO RESOLUTION HAS BEEN OBTAINED. *AK

It's like driving a Corvette, but with a real back seat.

After hearing from the media that Japanese cars were the best, I decided to buy a LEXUS LS. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. It lacked the soul of a Jaguar and was often mistaken for a Camry. The valet even parked it in the back. However, since switching to the XJR, I always get a smile and the front row at restaurants. I won't be going back to POSURE cars anytime soon. I love my new car!

I really like the way the car looks and handles. The supercharged engine is so smooth and powerful, it leaves the line with no hesitation. Plus, the gas mileage is great considering the size and weight of the car. The only downside is that the low profile Pirelli P Zero tires can ride a little harshly at slow speeds on rough pavement.

This car is fantastic! It's so easy to hit 100mph at the end of a merge lane entering the freeway. And when you change lanes like a pro at over 80 mph, the car hugs the road like lane paint!
-
This car is amazing! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a car with more performance and luxury than they could ask for. It's worth every penny you spend, no matter the cost.

370 horses make it fun and there's lots of subtle, head-turning class. This is my 3rd Jag and I must say, they're getting better with each generation. However, I have been disappointed with the little problems that pop up, such as part failures, irritating rattling noises due to build quality, and electronics issues. Twice now it has stopped running out of the blue while driving, and the dealer can't seem to find the problem. I have also noticed that the XJR has a tendency to hop when cornering and hitting a bump at speed, even with proper alignment and top of the line tires.
