The Jaguar E-Pace (X540) is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV (C-segment in Europe) produced by the British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) under their Jaguar marque. It was officially revealed on 13 July 2017 and was the second production Jaguar SUV.

The car is built in Graz, Austria, by Magna Steyr and from 2018 by Chery Jaguar Land Rover, JLR's joint venture with partner Chery, in Changshu, China.

Overview

Designed under the direction of Jaguar chief designer Ian Callum, the vehicle uses the JLR PTA platform, as used by the second incarnation of Range Rover Evoque and the second incarnation of Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The car has a transverse front engine and is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.

Stunt driver Terry Grant performed a world record barrel roll jump in the car for the reveal which took place at the London ExCel centre. The car did a 270 degree barrel roll and travelled 50 feet (15.3 metres) through the air.

Common 2018 Jaguar E-pace problems

The Jaguar E-Pace, a subcompact SUV introduced in 2017, has gained popularity for its sporty design and engaging driving dynamics. However, it is not without its share of issues. Here are some of the most common problems reported by owners of the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace:

  • High CO2 Levels: Some 2018 E-Paces have been found to emit higher levels of CO2 than the legal limit. This issue is more prevalent in diesel models and can lead to reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions. It is advisable to have the vehicle checked by a Jaguar dealership to ensure it meets the required standards.
  • Reverse Lights Not Working: Some owners have reported issues with the reverse lights not working on their 2018 E-Paces. This can be caused by a blown fuse or a faulty switch. Replacing the faulty components should resolve the issue.
  • Fuel Leak: A small number of 2018 E-Pace owners have reported fuel leaks from the vehicle. This can be a serious safety issue and should be addressed immediately by a Jaguar dealership. The cause of the fuel leak can vary, and a thorough inspection is necessary to identify and rectify the problem.
  • Timing Chain Issues: The 2.0L diesel Ingenium engine, used across the Jaguar Land Rover range, is known to have timing chain issues. The timing chains stretch over time, which can lead to engine failure if not replaced. Jaguar introduced an upgraded design chain in November 2019, which eliminates this problem. If you hear an engine rattle on start-up, this could be a sign of wear. Replacing all chains, guides, tensioners, and related parts using genuine parts is recommended.
  • DPF Regeneration Problems: The standard EU6 exhaust system used on 2.0 diesel XE models does not fit the E-Pace due to a bulkhead obstruction. Jaguar engineered a longer exhaust that runs around the bodywork obstruction, which can cause heat losses in the system. This can lead to DPF regeneration issues, especially if the vehicle is only used for short journeys. A partially blocked DPF can cause excess fuel to be used in the injection process, diluting the engine oil with diesel and reducing its ability to lubricate the engine. DPF blockages can often only be remedied with an expensive replacement filter.
  • Transmission Problems: Some owners have reported transmission issues, including rough shifting, delayed engagement, and slipping. These problems can be caused by various factors, including worn-out clutches, faulty solenoids, or low transmission fluid levels. A thorough inspection and necessary repairs by a qualified mechanic are recommended .
  • Engine Reliability: Some owners have reported engine reliability issues, including misfires, stalling, and reduced power. These problems can be caused by various factors, including faulty sensors, ignition system issues, or engine mechanical problems. A thorough inspection and necessary repairs by a qualified mechanic are recommended .

In conclusion, while the 2018 Jaguar E-Pace offers an engaging driving experience and an attractive design, it is not without its share of issues. Potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider the costs of maintenance and repairs when purchasing a used E-Pace.

Negative 2018 Jaguar E-pace car reviews

  1. Moriah Gerhold 2024-10-21

Beautiful car rides like a champ. The 2018 250 engine trans combination has a very hard downshift at lower speeds. Unfortunately, I can't manage with driver input or vehicle configuration. Despite the dealer and corporate diagnosing it as operating as designed, I'm concerned about this causing an uncontrolled slide on slick winter streets. Overall, I wouldn't buy this car again.

  2. Jaren Wuckert 2024-10-19

Hi! I noticed that you recently purchased a 2019 2 ltr petrol e pace. I wanted to let you know that I've had some trouble with the boot lid opening when I put my foot under the rear end. It seems to be hit and miss, and I'm wondering if you've experienced the same thing. Also, I've had some trouble with the finger locking. Have you had any issues with that as well?

  3. Fabian Koch 2024-02-15

I've had this car for a year and unfortunately had to visit the dealership 5 times to fix some issues. Not the most enjoyable experience.

Positive 2018 Jaguar E-pace car reviews

  1. Lewis Mohr 2024-08-11

I've noticed a clunking sound coming from the front left wheel area, especially when going over speed humps. I've been informed that this is a problem that others have reported. This is not good enough.

  2. Lane Wehner 2024-07-27

Over the years, I have been the proud owner of Corvettes, Alpha Romeo Spider, Cadillac, Lexus, and Ford. However, my 2018 Jaguar Epace has been my all-time favorite. It handles like a charm, is speedy and comfortable, and has just the right amount of accessories.

  3. Jasen Murray 2024-06-27

Test drive the car before you buy from it - you'll fall in love at first sight. Don't believe the reviews, this is my favorite car so far. I used to have the Infiniti QX5O, which was lacking in both performance and appearance. You'll be thrilled driving around in this beauty, it has so many bells and whistles. And let's not forget how stunning it looks!

  4. Lennie Howell 2024-04-13

I've only had the car for a week, but I'm already in love with it. It seems like everyone who sees it can't help but smile!

  5. Solon Toy 2024-03-29

If you're looking for a cool, sporty SUV, this is it! Equipped with great handling and comfortable front seats.
