AFTER HAVING THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE AUTHORIZED ISUZU SERVICE CENTER THEY DETERMINED THIS WAS PART OF RECALL 10V-436 AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE REPAIRED. CITING RCDNN-10V436-1257.PDF A LETTER FROM ISUZU TO THE NTSB ISUZU STATES THAT IN EVENT THAT THE TRUCK CANNOT BE REPAIRED THEY WILL PAY THE PRIVATE PARTY PRICE TO THE OWNER, WHEN WHAT THEY TOLD ME IS THAT THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR WHAT THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS FORCES THESE VEHICLES BACK ON THE ROAD WHEN RESOLD AS USED LEAVING THE NEW OWNER UNSUSPECTING OF THE DANGER WHEN THEY ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. - Summary: CURRENTLY OWN A 1998 ISUZU TROOPER. WAS PURCHASED USED FROM THE DEALER AT 82,000 MILES. CURRENTLY HAS 120,000 MILES ON THE CAR. SINCE PURCHASE VEHICLE HAS NOT HELD ITS COMPLETE CAPACITY OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THERE ARE NO LEAKS AND OIL IS CHANGED REGULARLY WITH A FULL CAPACITY. INVESTIGATION BY ME AND OTHERS HAS SHOWN THAT THE ENGINE WAS BUILT WITH INSUFFICIENT OIL RINGS WHICH LEAD TO HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION AND HAS LED TO SEIZED MOTORS DUE TO A LACK OF WARNING. ISUZU IS AWARE OF THIS (MECHANIC TOLD ME) AND WAS NOT FIXED UNTIL THE 2000 MODEL YEAR. (PROBLEM ON 98 AND 99 MODELS. DON'T MIND ADDING OIL EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE BUT WOULD HATE TO LOOSE THE ENGINE BECAUSE THE OIL SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY IN IT'S DESIGN. *JB

THEY INITIALLY DID AN OIL USAGE TEST, SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID IT WOULD BE NOT PROBLEM, BUT IN THE END WAS TURNED DOWN. WROTE LETTER TO DEALER AND ISUZU TO TRY TO GET THEM TO PAY HALF, BUT WAS TURNED DOWN AGAIN. BEEN ADDING THE OIL EVER SINCE JUST TO KEEP IT RUNNING. DATES BELOW MAY NOT BE EXACT.
