1985 Isuzu Impulse problems
The Isuzu Piazza is a small, sporty 3-door liftback coupé which was manufactured by Isuzu from 1981 until 1992 in two generations. The Isuzu Piazza was marketed as the Isuzu Impulse in North America and as the Holden Piazza in Australia.
The first generation Piazza was a rear-wheel drive car, and in the United Kingdom it was the first widely available Isuzu passenger car. The second generation was available as front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It was the basis for the lower-priced Gemini Coupé, known as the Geo Storm in the US market.
As of 2010, the number of registered Impulses in North America totaled only 2,300, making Impulses very rare.

Common 1985 Isuzu Impulse problems
The Isuzu Impulse, sold in the U.S. from 1983 to 1992, is a Giugiaro-designed sport-hatchback that was plagued with electrical problems when new, according to one owner's experience.
One of the most notable features of the Isuzu Impulse is the "Suspension by Lotus" badge on the rear, indicating that Lotus tuned the suspension beginning in 1988.
However, the Isuzu Impulse has faced its fair share of issues, particularly with the 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter computer control systems in the Isuzu I-Mark RS, Isuzu Impulse XS and RS, Isuzu Stylus S, XS, and RS, Geo Storm 12 Valve and GSi, and Asuna Sunfire vehicles from 1989 to 1993.
The symptoms of this fault include erratic idle, idle revving and dropping, idle dipping often with engine dying, idle hanging high above 2,000 RPM, and engine dying or stalling for no reason with no trouble codes.
The faulty ECU/computer problem has led to a recall effort by the members of the IsuzuWeb to force Isuzu and GM to address and repair the issue.
In summary, the Isuzu Impulse is a unique and appealing car with a Lotus-tuned suspension and a Giugiaro design. However, it has faced issues with electrical problems and faulty ECU/computers, leading to a recall effort by the members of the IsuzuWeb. The response of the NHTSA is dependent on the number of complaints filed, and unless every IsuzuWeb member files a complaint, GM and Isuzu will continue to ignore the problem.

The Isuzu Impulse was in production for two generations, from 1983 to 1992. The first-generation Impulse, known as the Isuzu Piazza in Japan, was based on the Isuzu Aska platform. The exterior design was by the famed Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign, giving the car a unique and stylish look for its time.

On 30 January 2008, Isuzu announced its complete withdrawal from the US market, effective 31 January 2009. It would continue to provide support and parts. The decision was due to lack of sales. Some of the lack of sales was blamed on consumer experiences with low quality engines and service.
