The first-generation QX50 is a minor model update of the EX, while also changing the nameplate to QX50 in line with the marque's new Q and QX nomenclature, which took place for the 2013 (China) and 2015 (United States) model years. The second-generation QX50 entered production in November 2017 as a 2019 model.

Common 2020 Infiniti Qx50 problems

The 2020 Infiniti QX50 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One major issue is related to the electrical systems, particularly the controls on the central console.

Another issue reported by owners is related to the powertrain and transmission. The 2020 QX50 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). While the engine is generally praised for its performance, the CVT has been criticized for causing inconsistent power delivery, especially in slow-rolling traffic. The accelerator can feel finicky and jumpy, making it difficult to maintain a smooth driving experience

. Additionally, real-world fuel efficiency numbers are lower than the EPA estimates, with many owners reporting an average of around 22 miles per gallon in mixed driving, as opposed to the promised 26 miles per gallon combined

The steering system has also been a source of complaints. The steering is described as feeling too light, especially around corners, and becoming overly responsive at higher speeds. This can make the vehicle feel flighty and unstable, detracting from the overall driving experience

Lastly, the 2020 Infiniti QX50 has been reported to have issues with the tires, cruise control, CVT transmission, variable compression ratio actuator, and CarPlay failure, all within the first 4 months of ownership. These issues, combined with the electrical and powertrain problems, can make the 2020 QX50 a frustrating and potentially unsafe vehicle for some owners.

Negative 2020 Infiniti Qx50 car reviews

  1. Gerald Dooley 2025-01-06

I purchased this car three weeks ago and unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with gas smells filling up my garage. Despite the fact that I have a brand new luxury SUV, I have had to park it outside in the cold or leave my garage door open for hours while it cools off. Although the dealer repair shop has been unable to find anything wrong, I am concerned about the potential health hazard that this poses. Additionally, the lack of available run flats is a concern. However, I am confident that these issues will be resolved in due course. While I am disappointed with my experience so far, I am hopeful that the manufacturer will address these concerns and improve the overall quality of the vehicle. As a loyal Infiniti customer, I look forward to seeing improvements in future models.

  2. Leonard Parisian 2024-11-10

I purchased a brand new QX50 in September 2018 and unfortunately, I have encountered a few issues. Firstly, the map in the Navigation system is at least 3 years old and I was informed by Infiniti customer care that I would have to order an update myself. Secondly, I have noticed that the forward emergency system does not work as it is advertised on YouTube or their website. I would recommend paying attention to this during a test drive. Lastly, the sunroof has been making a rattling noise and it took multiple visits to the dealer to fix it. I was informed that the part was difficult to obtain. Overall, I have had some challenges with my QX50 but I am hopeful that they will be resolved soon.

  3. Art Jaskolski 2024-10-26

It seems that some drivers of the QX50 who also use an iPhone have experienced some issues. While driving, the electronic systems and screens in the car may suddenly go black and restart, causing the phone to disconnect and sometimes even losing the maps. This can be quite inconvenient, especially if you are on the phone or using GPS. Infiniti Canada has not taken any action to address this issue and instead blames the phone and phone provider.

  4. Malcolm Little 2024-10-08

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you purchased the Qx50 in June and I wanted to reach out to you about your gas mileage concerns. I completely understand how frustrating it can be to not get the fuel economy you were expecting. Have you tried any methods to improve your gas mileage? Also, have you considered taking your car to a mechanic to see if there are any underlying issues? Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!

  5. Wilbert Murray 2024-09-17

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my new Infiniti QX50. While I was hoping for a smoother ride and better gas mileage, I've unfortunately been experiencing some issues. The ride quality has been a bit rough, and I've noticed some suspension noise when going over bumps. Additionally, I've been getting lower gas mileage than expected. On top of that, I've been having some trouble with the electronics - sometimes my phone doesn't pair, and the in-touch control screen doesn't always turn on. I'm planning on taking it to the dealer to see if there's anything they can do to help. Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with my experience so far, but I'm hopeful that these issues can be resolved. Thanks for listening!Again, this is my 4th and last Infiniti. I am now actually hoping for more continual problems so I can get lemon law. But at least I accomplished one of my three goals with a new car - a lower payment. I wish I would have selected a different manufacturer and model for a higher payment. Maybe my expectations are too high as I have had the car for a month...

Positive 2020 Infiniti Qx50 car reviews

  1. Rickey Conroy 2024-11-22

When I leased the QX50, I wasn't aware that it came with run flat tires. I later found out that these tires can only run for 50 miles and there's a good chance of distorting the rim. Unfortunately, the car doesn't come with a spare or a jack. If you need to repair a tire, it may take some time to find a replacement since they are not commonly sold. It's important to note that a new tire can cost around $300 each. If I had known this beforehand, I would have considered my options more carefully.

  2. Freeman Rice 2024-11-07

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the QX 50 AWD Essential in Lunar White with tan interior. I've already driven it over 1,000 miles and I have to say, I'm absolutely loving it! The ride is incredibly smooth, quiet, and refined. Plus, the Bose audio is spectacular and the zero gravity front leather seats are some of the best I've ever experienced - they even rival Volvo's! If you're in the market for a spacious CUV that's not too large, with luxurious appointments and great MPG, then this is definitely the one for you. It's a terrific value!

  3. Ryley Mohr 2024-10-24

I've been driving my QX50 for six months now and I must say, it's a fantastic car! Not only is it one of the best-looking SUVs on the road, but it also catches the attention of other drivers who speed up just to get a closer look. As someone who is 6'4'', I appreciate the ample legroom that the car provides. The interior is also very impressive and well-designed. I'm currently getting 26 mpg in the city and on the highway, which is great considering some drivers are only getting 20 mpg. Of course, it all depends on how you drive the car. The controls are straightforward and easy to use, and while the braking may be a bit soft, it's still reliable. The car is also very quick, especially when the steering is set to sport mode, which gives you more feel for the drive-by-wire steering. The acceleration is smooth and constant, and while the shifter may take some getting used to, it's similar to the setup in Audis. The run-flat tires can be a bit unforgiving on bumpy roads, but they're great on smooth roads. If you need an OEM replacement tire, I recommend going to Tire Rack. I've read some negative comments about the driver assist braking system, but I haven't had any issues with it. In fact, I think it's a great system, especially when you consider how many drivers are distracted by their phones while on the road. Good work, Infiniti! Of course, if the system bothers you, it can be easily turned off. I've never experienced any gassy smells in my car, but I've heard that certain states use higher blends of ethanol in their gas, which could be the problem. Finally, the car has been extremely reliable. I've owned three other Infiniti cars in the past, and I've never had any problems with them. Overall, my QX50 is an extremely comfortable, great-looking car that rides like a champ and gets excellent mpg.

  4. Kendall Von 2024-10-22

Absolutely love this truck! Your truck drives great and it's great to hear that you don’t have the issue of the light steering wheel that others have noted. It's always a good idea to test drive several trucks before making a decision. I hope you continue to enjoy your truck!

  5. Geovanny Morissette 2024-02-23

Congratulations on your new QX 50! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the size, ride, and feel of the car. I completely understand that the electronics for the gear shift, climate, radio, and safe driving can take some getting used to, especially with the gear shifter being like a joy stick. However, it's wonderful to hear that you're becoming more comfortable with all of the electronics. The two years of free maintenance and the 4-year warranty are definitely great perks. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!
