2019 Hyundai Veloster problems
The Hyundai Veloster (Korean: 현대 벨로스터, romanized: Hyeondae Belloseuteo) is a compact car first produced in 2011 by Hyundai, with sales beginning in South Korea on March 10, 2011, and in Canada and the United States since the fall of 2011. In South Korea, it was marketed under Hyundai's 'Premium Youth Lab'. It was unveiled on January 10, 2011, at the Detroit Auto Show, and fills the void left when Hyundai discontinued the Hyundai Tiburon after the 2008 model year.
The car differs from most other hatchbacks with its asymmetrical door configuration, featuring one large door on the driver side and two smaller doors on the passenger side. This configuration is more common on commercial vehicles and minivans. In North America, the Veloster was equipped with Blue Link, a new telematics system which will eventually be standard on all Hyundai models. The system is comparable to OnStar in General Motors vehicles, and provides customers with automatic crash notification, vehicle diagnostics, and remote control of vehicle features, among others.
Development and early concepts
HND-3 concept (2007)
The Hyundai HND-3 concept was the third sport compact concept car styled at Hyundai's Design and Technical Center. It included 2.0-liter DOHC Theta inline four-cylinder engine and five-speed automatic transmission. The concept car became a Veloster Coupe in 2011.
The car concept was unveiled at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show, with the final production version released on January 11 at the Detroit Auto Show. The Veloster is developed under the codename FS, and is built on a modified version of the Cee'd's front-wheel drive platform.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-01
- VIN: KMHTH6AB6KU
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving 76 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and decelerated to 30 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle experienced intermittent, unintended acceleration. The contact shifted the transmission to neutral(N), but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact then pressed the shift lock release button, and the vehicle was able to stop. The steering wheel also inadvertently turned left or right while driving, and the Lane Keep Assist System was not activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that fuel and oil were leaking into the exhaust pipe, allowing smoke into the cabin. The dealer replaced the alternator, battery, and spark plugs, but the failure persisted. The dealer notified the manufacturer about the failure. The vehicle was then taken to Tarr Hyundai (5524 W Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814); however, the dealer was initially unable to duplicate the failure. When Tarr Hyundai was able to duplicate the failure, the failure information was forwarded to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and several cases were opened. The final case was resolved through arbitration, and the manufacturer was ordered to buy back the vehicle; however, the contact declined the buyback offer. The failure mileage was approximately 141.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-06
- VIN: KMHTG6AF3KU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: 2019 Hyundai Veloster. Since November 2022, my vehicle has encountered multiple problems, necessitating extensive periods in repair shops, and I believe these issues have not been addressed satisfactorily. Below is a timeline of the events for your reference: - **December 2022**: Engine replacement was conducted, resulting in the vehicle being in the shop for 7.5 weeks. - **January & February 2023**: The car underwent repairs for damage due to a faulty door and leaking moisture. - **February 2023**: The vehicle was broken into, leading to another round of repairs in April 2023. - **October 2023**: The check engine light activated. Upon taking the vehicle to your dealership, I was informed of a two-month wait for diagnosis and an even further delay for the repair. - **December 2023**: I was advised to leave the car at the dealership for a diagnosis to be conducted several weeks later, with no offer of a courtesy vehicle. - **January 2024**: The dealership diagnosed a low oil code and instructed me to return to the previous service provider to reset it, despite the oil level being adequate. I believe that the engine was not accompanied by proper installation and synchronization of related components, it could indeed lead to a P0017 code. This code indicates a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft positions, which can be caused by issues such as a faulty timing chain or belt, incorrect installation of these components, or a problem with the camshaft or crankshaft sensors⁴. The appearance of a P0017 code after an engine replacement can vary in time depending on the specific circumstances of the installation. If the timing components such as the chain or belt, sensors, and related parts are not properly installed or calibrated, the code could show up immediately after the engine is started. In other cases, it might take some time for the code to appear, as the engine's computer tries to adjust the timing and eventually determines it cannot correct.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-03
- VIN: KMHT36AH1KU
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I had cruise control enabled while driving down the highway. When entering a sweeper turn, the steering wheel locked up completely and could only be moved about 1cm either direction. If this had happened on any mild turn this would have resulted in a crash. The steering wheel locked up entirely at 50mph. I was able to slowly get the car to the side of the road utilizing the 1cm of freeplay in the steering wheel. Steering would not return until I restarted the car. No lights appeared on the dash before, during, or after the incident. Component that failed was 56320-K9000 Power Pack Assembly. Dealer replaced this under warranty after the ECU revealed the component had failed. The component is no longer available for inspection. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-08
- VIN: KMHTG6AF3KU
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: While driving the vehicle the engine stalled in the middle of a turn. We were able to safely move the vehicle to the side of the road immediately out of harms way. The engine would not restart despite adding oil. Prior to the engine stalling there was a light knocking noise but very faint. The check engine or oil lights did not illuminate until after the stall. We had the vehicle towed to our family member's auto shop to research the problem with the engine and he also was not able to get the vehicle to restart. It was confirmed that the piston oil ring had failed and safety recall report 21V-301 was found addressing the same issue with other vehicles same year but not specific to our VIN. We had the vehicle towed to Hyundai dealership to validate the issue and they stated that it was a camshaft dowel and that HyundaiUSA did not feel it fell under the recall notice, we had agreed to a fix to replace the camshaft dowel that was broken upon the initial diagnosis. Upon further review they found that further damage had been done to the engine and now the engine would need to be replaced. HyundaiUSA again said that it didn't fall under the safety recall based on the VIN and would not fully cover the replacement of the engine. Their diagnosis of the damage is identical to what is listed in the Safety recall notice 21V-301. This damage could have caused a much larger issue if the vehicle was being driven on a highway or other high traffic area.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-19
- VIN: KMHTG6AF1KU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My car battery died and I changed the battery. I noticed that the engine lights were on, so I made an appointment to get it checked as well as complete a state inspection. My car fob started acting up and they (Halls Jeep) told me to take it to the Hyundai Service Center because they have the equipment to do so. I took it to the Priority Hyundai and told them of the issue as well as reminded them that there was a recall issue relating to the software in the vehicle. After waiting 4 hours of back and forth, trying to find out what was going on with the car, I saw parked to the side. I asked about it and then another mechanic came and told me that they locked the car and were now unable to unlock it. I told them that there should be some emergency entrance, as all vehicle with a fob has a safety feature to unlock manually. After another while, the service manager decided that the locking issue might be due to the car not being updated (the recall issue) and gave me a loaner car. The service manager also said he did not know how to rectify it and that he would need to contact a different department in Hyundai. I received a call from the manager now saying that it is a mechanical issue and that they are not responsible for anything that happened to my car when they are fixing another issue. I now have a car that I can't lock/unlock and I am not sure what else is wrong due to the software issues. Th software recall does not address all the electrical issues and the dealerships don't know all the issues with the car.

I've owned everything from Porsche's to Hell Cats. For the money, this car is the best in build quality, driving fun, and affordability. I would buy another Hyundai in a second.

This is the first car I have owned where I cannot stop looking back once I walk away from it. I bought a brand new Veloster Turbo in March for $21,500, which was 5k under MSRP. Let me start with the body - it has sleek lines and a mean look which constantly has me saying, 'She is so baaaad (in a good way)'. The grill is stylish, and the lights are far stronger and brighter than my girlfriend's 2019 Civic EX. The interior is amazing. I live in the desert, and it has the perfect mix of non-leather material with leather. It has red stitching with a red stripe down each seat. In comparison to my girlfriend's Civic, it has a premium look and holds an upper hand on Honda. The dash and steering wheel make me feel like I am on top of the road, and the sport suspension is amazing. I love driving my car. It has a three-mode transmission which has a sport mode, normal mode, and smart mode for the freeway. I average 32-34mpg on the freeway and 28mpg on everyday use. It has such nice pick me up with its 198lbs of torque. Also, their Hyundai app is amazing. Again, I live in the desert, where it is 105 degrees in the summer and 30 degrees in the winter. It has Apple and Google CarPlay with a huge screen that I believe is nicer than the Civic layout (and I love Hondas as well). The app allows me to start my car from the hospital floor I work on to the parking lot, which is about 2,000 feet away, to start my AC at 62 degrees so that by the time I get to my car, it is ice-cold. I love this feature so much; it allows me not to melt in my car once I step in. It makes me look forward to stepping into my car on hot summer days, and I assume it will be the same with our ice-cold winters. At 21k, this car was a steal, and the 10-year 100k mile warranty is the icing on the cake. The technology, speed, and interior have converted this Honda-loving registered nurse to a Hyundai believer. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I recently purchased the RSpec and it has been an absolute joy to drive. The manual transmission is user-friendly and the throttle response is impressive. This is my second Veloster, but my first turbo, and it has been a stylish upgrade. The RSpec comes fully loaded with excellent features, including a larger touch screen and the addition of Android Auto, which is a great bonus. Today, while stopped at a light, another motorist complimented the car's capabilities and mentioned how lucky I was to be driving it.

I have owned a couple of Ford Focus models, first a Titanium and then an ST. While the Veloster turbo may not have as much power as the ST, it more than makes up for it with its well-tuned suspension, superior electronics, safety features, entertainment, and navigation system. The Veloster is still a fun car to drive, with great steering, especially in sport mode, and it holds corners very well. The sound system is excellent, and the navigation system is easy to use. The driver information is abundant, and the lane assist is actually really good, providing subtle corrections that feel more like a banked road than any sort of computerized assistance. I recently traded this car for a Veloster N in March of 2021, and I was pleased with how well it held its value. This is probably due to having most options and the increase in the used car market from supply chain issues for new cars. I was also pleased with the minimal amount of maintenance required to keep the car running well. Overall, I have no complaints about the Veloster, I just wanted the additional power and the Dual Clutch Transmission offered in the 2021 Veloster N.

We previously owned a 2013 Mini Cooper. If the quality of the Mini Cooper had been better, we would have considered purchasing another one. However, we found that the Veloster has the features we liked in the Mini Cooper, along with better quality and reliability.
