2024 Kia Carnival problems
The Kia Carnival (Korean: 기아 카니발) is a minivan manufactured by Kia since 1998. It was marketed globally under various nameplates, prominently as the Kia Sedona.
The first generation Carnival was introduced in January 1998, and was marketed in a single, short wheelbase version. Second generation models were marketed (2006–2014) in short and long wheelbase variants. A rebadged variant of the second generation was offered in North America as the Hyundai Entourage (2007–2009). Beginning in 2010, the second generation model received updated equipment, including Kia's corporate Tiger Nose grille, as introduced by its then new design chief, Peter Schreyer. Kia introduced its third generation minivan in 2014, solely in a long wheelbase format. The fourth generation was introduced in 2020, when Kia also began using the Carnival nameplate worldwide.
First generation (KV-II; 1998)
The first generation model was manufactured and marketed differently for specific regions, including under a joint venture in the Chinese market with Dongfeng Yueda Kia, as well as the Naza Ria in Malaysia.
In Indonesia and the Philippines, both Carnival/Sedona names were used. Initially introduced as the Carnival in 2001, from 2003 onwards, it was renamed as the Sedona.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-12
- VIN: KNDNB4H31R6
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: Almost all cars next to me are unable to interpret my signal lights due to I) rear signal lights being so low and not at brake lint level, and ii) from signal lights being near the grill and not the corners. This is a huge problem when changing lanes. Same with the reverse light being only on the rear bumper level - it is common for pedestrians and cars to not notice that the car is about to reverse. This is very dangerous and should not have been passed. Kia must remedy this issue at once considering how many lives are at risk.

At first they told me they were going to wipe off the "grease" then told me they needed to order a whole new steering column. I asked if it was still safe to drive and the service technician said no. I have heard this is a common problem with 2024 Kia Carnivals. Hopefully if enough people report the problem, a recall will be issued.

I informed the dealer multiple times that the trim has already come off multiple times and is a hazard. They then reiterated that it didn’t qualify for a repair under their standards. Same information was presented directly to Kia Care and I was given the same information. Upon arriving home, a quick glance at the roof trim showed that it was, in fact, separated from the roof in one area and I was able to gently tug at the trim to remove it completely. The dealership failed to do an adequate inspection of the vehicle and repair it as they should have.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-17
- VIN: KNDNB4H33R6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE
- Summary: In June 2023, I purchased a 2024 Kia Carnival with approx. 17 miles on it. One thing I noticed after purchasing the vehicle is when I pushed the button to close the power sliding door on the driver side of the vehicle is that halfway during closing it would hesitate, open back up slightly, and then proceed to close. I didn't think anything of it at the time. Prior to [XXX], I had the same issue again but this time the door stopped halfway while closed and just went back and forth over and over again. It did this continually until I turned off the power sliding door and manually closed it. On [XXX], I took the vehicle to a Kia dealership and explained the problem to them and they kept it for a day and stated there was nothing they could do because they could not replicate the problem. Kia wanted to charge me a $180 diagnostic fee which I refused to pay because I knew the problem existed and I had purchased a warranty through Kia which they stated they would not honor unless they found a problem. They advised me to video record the issue if it happened again. Prior to [XXX], the issue happened again only this time my 3 year old child was almost caught in the door, but my wife grabbed her and in doing so the door closed on my wife. After this incident, I was able to duplicate the issue two more times and was able to get it on recording. On [XXX], I took my vehicle to the same dealership and left it for a week. I provided them with my videos. During this time the issue also happened with the service rep and she also had two lube techs witness it, but this didn't satisfy them enough to say they could fix it. Eventually a tech worked on it and stated code "b15a200" showed as "pending" but they needed an "active" code in order to do any work on it. This code showed as "lh outside door handle switch short low". Kia again stated they couldn't work on it because the "tech" ever duplicated the problem. The problem has still persisted. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
- VIN: KNDNB4H38R6

The vehicle was shuddering and vibrating while attempting to accelerate with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer on several occasions, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,500.
WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-30
- VIN: KNDNC5H37R6
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I hit a piece of 4X4 in the road that fell off of the vehicle in front of me. In doing so, I thought I busted my front driver’s side tire, but later found out at the dealership that my rim is completely split. I'm baffled at the fact that the wheel failed as severely as it did, so were the technicians who witnessed the damage. I was driving 50mph when it happened & I'm worried about major safety issues & the integrity of the other wheels. I was told by the service advisor that a new wheel could be ordered for $1,100.00 however, the delivery is backdated with no delivery date in sight. I'm currently driving on a spare tire that is only good for driving 50 miles. I drive approximately 68 miles per day to get my children to & from school & to & from work & I have been driving on this spare tire since the incident occurred. I feel this is a safety hazard to not only myself & my family, but other drivers on the road. I am concerned that other Carnival drivers could hit a pot hole or speed bump just right & have the same thing happen to them or cause them to lose control of the vehicle. **I would like to upload a photo but that feature does not appear to be working from the button below, please contact me if you wish to have the photo.**

The contact stated that the backrest of the seat lowered, and the seat moved forward abruptly within a second and struck the right side of his forehead. The contact sustained a bruise. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. It's been quite a journey, but we finally found the perfect minivan for our family! After a disappointing experience with a 2019 Honda Odyssey, we decided to trade it in for a Carnival (SX) and we couldn't be happier. This van has exceeded our expectations in every way - from its sleek design to its advanced technology, and most importantly, its comfort and luxury. The only downside is that the sunroof is only available in the SX Prestige, which doesn't have the reclining seats in the middle - not ideal for families with kids. However, overall, it's a fantastic vehicle that we absolutely love! In fact, we've taken it on some amazing road trips and it's been a great daily driver for hauling our kids and all their stuff.

Hello! I'm delighted to share my experience with you. I've owned a variety of cars over the years, from a Chevy Vega to a BMW M3 convertible, and I'm now 78 years old. My wife and I have owned around 43 or 44 new vehicles, including Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Honda, Toyota, and more. As we've gotten older, we've found that minivans are the most practical option. They have slightly higher seats, which are easier to get in and out of, but lower ground clearance. We were initially interested in the 2023 Toyota Sienna Hybrid Platinum edition, but after test driving it and considering the engine noise, comfort, and price of $54,110, we decided to go with the 2023 KIA Carnival SX Prestige, which we purchased for an MSRP of $48,612 in October. We live in a retirement community and often transport people with wheelchairs and walkers, so the Carnival's spacious interior is perfect for us. The third row is also great for when our grandchildren visit. We've taken the car on long trips to Florida twice, and it gets an average of 27.6 MPG. The front seats are very comfortable and have good electric adjustments, and the adaptive cruise control works extremely well. I can drive for 4 to 6 hours without stopping and experience no pain, stiffness, or leg cramps. The middle row is comfortable, but I do wish it had electric adjustments for moving forward, backward, and side to side. The Prestige seats require you to slide in to fully recline. We found that the OEM tires on the Carnival were noisy, so we put Michelin snow tires on for the winter, and the car is now amazingly quiet, even at cruising speeds of 70 to 80 MPH. We've owned several SUVs in the past, but we now realize that they're impractical and overrated. I do wish the Carnival was all-wheel drive, but overall, it's a fantastic car. I encourage anyone who's hesitant about minivans to give the Carnival a chance. Thank you for reading!

This 'MPV' is really impressive! While no vehicle is perfect, this one drives like a dream and gets decent mpg for such a large vehicle. The tech integration is incredible and far better than competitors, all at a much better value. The safety features all work as intended, although the auto brake assist can be a little over-eager when cars are turning in front of you. The seat comfort and flexibility is great, although the middle captain chairs could be a little easier to slide. My only real complaint is the design and placement of the entertainment screens, which takes up some aisle space and almost interferes with the function of the seats sliding forward. I love having the 360 camera and power folding mirrors available on the SX (not the top model) too. The drive is very quiet and refined and this thing definitely turns heads. I'm hoping for at least 10 great years with it!

The vehicle is both spacious and elegant, with too many features to list. The huge screen, especially for navigation, is a standout feature, and every seat has its own USB port. Additionally, there is a 110 outlet in the very back and on the dash. While the center console could benefit from a few more pockets on the sides, the driver and passenger doors have a large tray. The vehicle drives really well, with a tight turning radius and the ability to pick up speed in a snap. The top view camera is especially helpful in parallel parking and tight parking lots. Overall, my wife and I are both very pleased with the vehicle. She even refuses to call it a

After checking out the carnival and taking a ride, we decided to purchase a 2023 model. It's a base model, but we're thrilled with it so far. We've already put 7,000 miles on it! It's incredibly comfortable, sporty, and handles like a dream. The gas mileage isn't bad for its size, and it's very roomy inside. So far, we haven't found anything we don't like about it. We would definitely recommend it to our friends and family!

The check engine light has come on twice within 2-3 months of purchasing my brand new van, and it vibrates when I press the gas pedal. This is unacceptable and I strongly advise against purchasing a Kia.
Elian Mayer 2025-11-19
The leg room on the passenger side is a bit limited and some of the controls are in unusual locations, which can be distracting while driving. Unfortunately, the rear video screens do not come with wireless headphones as advertised, but you can easily purchase your own. It can be a bit frustrating to reconnect them to Bluetooth every time you turn off the car, especially with little kids. The Continental tires are not suitable for winter driving and can be quite dangerous in snowy or icy conditions. The cup holders in the second row are not in the most convenient location and can be a bit bothersome for the driver and passengers. The middle row reclining seats are a nice feature, but they take up a lot of space and are not removable like the lower-priced version. However, the interior coloring is lovely. Some of the electronic temperature controls reset to factory settings, so you need to reselect your preferences every time you turn off the car. On the bright side, the car has some fantastic exterior features, including driver-assisted screen cameras and automatic unlocking and opening of doors when you are standing next to them with the key fob.

This is our 5th Kia and we have always been big fans of the brand. We loved our 2015 Sedona and decided to trade it in for the Carnival. Unfortunately, we have had some issues with this particular model. Within the first 2 weeks, the dashboard started to come apart and we had to take it in for repairs multiple times, which was inconvenient. Additionally, we have noticed that the tires don't seem to have much traction in any weather. The button to change a song/station is also a bit confusing. We have also noticed some issues with the bumper. We opted for the rear entertainment system, but unfortunately, the LXS model has less impressive TVs. Lastly, we have some concerns about the seatbelts on the bucket seats. We have reached out to Kia corporate multiple times, but have not received a response. Overall, we are disappointed with this purchase and it has made us reconsider our loyalty to the Kia brand.

My brand new Kia Carnival experienced some issues starting in the morning within the first couple of months. Despite being at the dealership for 5 days, they have been unable to identify the problem. I have been paying for a rental car out of pocket since they refused to provide me with a loaner. However, I am confident that the dealership will resolve the issue soon and I look forward to enjoying my Kia Carnival for years to come.
Milo Nienow 2025-10-08
I bought a Kia last year in 2023. Since then, I have experienced some issues with the doors, electronics, and a cracked front screen. The technician informed me that many cosmetic items are made of plastic. Although I have an extended warranty, I had to pay for the bulbs and door to be fixed last time. When I went to the dealership yesterday for the same issue, I found out that the warranty only covers the bulbs and door, not the screen. It will cost me almost $1400 to fix. If you are looking for a reliable van, I suggest considering other options.
