The Hyundai Santa Fe (Korean: 현대 싼타페) is an automobile produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 2000. It is a five-door crossover SUV that either has front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV. The Santa Fe was a milestone in the company's restructuring program of the late 1990s because the SUV was a hit with American buyers. Between 2006 and 2012, the Santa Fe was positioned between the smaller Tucson compact crossover and the larger Veracruz.

The third-generation Santa Fe introduced in 2012 was available in two versions, which are regular (short) and extended long-wheelbase version. The short model was sold as the Santa Fe Sport in North America (three-row seating was not available) and simply Santa Fe in global markets (three-row seating was standard or optional), while the extended long-wheelbase model is called the Santa Fe in the US, Santa Fe XL in Canada and called the Hyundai Maxcruz in South Korea. The fifth and current generation was released in 2023 and omits diesel engines in favor of petrol hybrid powertrains.

As of 2022, the Santa Fe is positioned between the smaller Tucson – which the Santa Fe shares platform with – and the larger Palisade in Hyundai's global crossover SUV line-up.

Transmission Stutters: Another issue reported for the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is transmission stutters, affecting models from 2001 to 2014. Owners have reported experiencing odd stutters as they shift from second to third gear. This issue can be particularly concerning while driving at highway speeds, as it can lead to a sudden stop in the vehicle.

Hesitation Issues: Additionally, some owners of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport have reported hesitation issues, which can be particularly frustrating while accelerating or coming out of turns. This issue can be dangerous, as it can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle.

Faulty Speakers: Many Santa Fe models, including those from 2011 to 2017, have struggled with faulty speakers. Santa Fe models with navigation features may abruptly stop playing audio from all speakers at around 50,000 miles. This issue can be particularly concerning for those who rely on their vehicle's audio system for navigation or entertainment.

Engine Stalls: Some models have experienced engine stalls due to a defective crankshaft position sensor. Reports claimed that they would suddenly stop driving at highway speeds, which is a scary situation. This issue can be particularly dangerous, as it can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle.

While the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is known for its spacious cabin and comfortable seating, it is important to be aware of these potential issues. Proper maintenance and regular inspections can help prevent these issues from occurring or becoming more severe.

Negative 2014 Hyundai Santa fe sport car reviews

  1. Casimer Stoltenberg 2024-10-22

I purchased my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe used in 2015 with 22,000 miles. Since then, I have added another 25,000 miles. The turbo is fantastic and accelerates quickly. The heated seats and steering wheel are great features. The surround sound and speaker systems are also very impressive. However, the car does ride rough and has loud road noise. The interior feels a bit cheaply made and there are some squeaks and rattles. For the price, you do get a lot of features, but I personally would not choose to buy another Hyundai.

  2. Kyleigh Mante 2024-10-19

Hi there! I recently leased the Santa Fe Sport 2.0T with the navigation package, but I've been having a few issues. Unfortunately, I'm only getting around 17 mpg in the city, which isn't great. Additionally, I've been having trouble connecting my phone to the Bluetooth, which is a bit frustrating. I've had success connecting my phone in my 2013 Toyota Camry and my older Tucson, but not in this Santa Fe. The seats are a bit hot in the current summer weather, but I'm hoping they'll be more comfortable in the winter. I do wish I had gone with a Jeep, Subaru, or Toyota instead, as they were a bit pricier but may have been worth it in the end. Thanks for listening!

  3. Louisa Balistreri 2024-08-15

As you can see (below), my original issues started within the first couple of months of owning the car. It has been a battle from the beginning. My vehicle leaked water into the car for well over a year. I notified Hyundai and the dealership of the issue on several occasions, but unfortunately, they were unable to duplicate the issue. Despite this, the dealership finally decided to replace the windshield, stating it was 'improperly sealed'. This fix did seem to fix the leaking down the windshield. However, neither Hyundai nor the dealership ever remedied the water that had already entered the car. As a result, my car now condensates on the inside - which is not ideal. Now I am faced with the fact that there is no sound for the blinkers, welcome sound, goodbye sound, and reverse. I have checked to ensure that welcome/goodbye is indeed turned on, but still nothing. I am concerned that this is caused by the ongoing moisture issue, on top of the foul smell it has when you turn on the heat/air (all filters are clean). I initially loved my vehicle as this was my first BRAND NEW vehicle. However, I believe I got a lemon of all lemons. I want it to be fixed and fixed right...if they cannot fix it, they can have the car back. I bought NEW thinking I wouldn't have issues.Best Features: I absolutely love the tech package and the heated steering wheel. The car is fantastic! As for the moon roof, I did have a bit of an issue with it leaking, but I'm sure that can be fixed. Worst Features: It would be great if the assembly process could be improved to avoid any issues like the one I experienced with the moon roof.

I am extremely dissatisfied with our 2014 Santa Fe Sport. The vehicle is not designed for individuals under 5'5, making it uncomfortable and difficult to view. Additionally, the touch screen system has been problematic, initially locking up on the safety message and requiring multiple restarts. Despite my complaints to Graham Auto Mall in Mansfield and Dennis Hyundai in Columbus, neither dealership registered my complaint. Currently, the touch screen system is stuck on Bluetooth, rendering the CD and USB port unusable. Unfortunately, Hyundai has not taken responsibility for this issue. Furthermore, the navigation system is outdated and requires a costly update. I strongly advise against purchasing a Hyundai.

The Santa Fe Sport with Turbo engine has plenty of power. The finish always looked shiny and the interior was nice. Unfortunately, I no longer have it.

Great car overall! It's an exceptional value with excellent performance and durability. The low cost of ownership and great warranty make it an even better choice. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone considering something comparable in this SUV category.
