It is a five-door crossover SUV that either has front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. It is named after the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and was introduced for the 2001 model year as Hyundai's first SUV. The Santa Fe was a milestone in the company's restructuring program of the late 1990s because the SUV was a hit with American buyers. Between 2006 and 2012, the Santa Fe was positioned between the smaller Tucson compact crossover and the larger Veracruz.
The third-generation Santa Fe introduced in 2012 was available in two versions, which are regular (short) and extended long-wheelbase version. The short model was sold as the Santa Fe Sport in North America (three-row seating was not available) and simply Santa Fe in global markets (three-row seating was standard or optional), while the extended long-wheelbase model is called the Santa Fe in the US, Santa Fe XL in Canada and called the Hyundai Maxcruz in South Korea. The fifth and current generation was released in 2023 and omits diesel engines in favor of petrol hybrid powertrains.
As of 2022, the Santa Fe is positioned between the smaller Tucson – which the Santa Fe shares platform with – and the larger Palisade in Hyundai's global crossover SUV line-up.

Vehicle year: 2017
This is a great SUV with stylish design and the best warranty in the industry. Don't be swayed by negative 'professional' reviews, this car is peppy and fast, even when you punch it for an SUV. The handling is excellent and the technology is top-notch, especially if you opt for the tech package. It's an excellent value for what you get. I compared it to Mercedes, BMW, and domestic brands, and hands down, it's the best value for the money. The full glass top is incredible and the largest in its class. The dynamic bending lights with the xenon lights are great, although it would have been even better if the fog lights were xenon too instead of regular halogen. Also, the dual-zone air conditioning works great, but it oscillates while in use, which is something you have to get used to.

After reviewing every SUV in this class, I ultimately decided on the Hyundai Santa Fe due to its safety features and upgrades. I took the advice to go with the Turbo, even though I've never owned a 4 cyl car before, and I'm glad I did. With the turbo, I feel confident when passing and merging onto the highway. The fuel economy has been good, averaging 28 to 30 mpg. The only downside is that the front passenger seat does not adjust up and down, which can make it difficult to see over the hood when sitting in that seat. Overall, I highly recommend the Hyundai Santa Fe for anyone in the market for an SUV.

Some of these features include a backup camera with a warning alarm for objects that are too close, lane change/blind spot radar alert, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a lift gate that automatically operates when approached, gauges that include individual tire pressure indicators, voice-activated navigation and Bluetooth applications, a very user-friendly touch screen, peppy turbo and economy options, sport adjustable steering options, and a huge full car length sunroof. All of these features combine to create a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable transportation unit that is perfect for both short and long journeys.

Out of all the crossovers I looked at, the Honda CRV, Toyota RAV, Nissan Rogue, Maza's 3 & 5, and the large Santa Fe, this car is the one you want if you're looking for a sharp-looking crossover with a comfortable, quiet ride and a very nice interior. There's simply no comparison to the other crossovers mentioned above. While I loved all the cameras on the CRV, the interior looked cheap and the seats were short and uncomfortable. The RAV's interior was a little nicer, but the ride was very loud. I ended up purchasing the Sport Turbo Unlimited and absolutely love it. It has the ride and comfort of a 40k+ crossover, and I was able to purchase it for 31k, even though the sticker price was 37k. The only thing it lacks is a front warning system, as the hood curves down and it's hard to judge how close you are. I'm getting 32 mpg on the highway without the eco feature.

Edmonds asked me to review my car again, so here we are at 5 1/2 years and 78,000 miles. It has been a fantastic car up until now. However, I recently experienced an issue with the engine. The check engine light came on and the car went into 'limp' mode, so I had it towed into the dealership. This is apparently a common problem with Hyundai engines, but the service rep was very helpful and followed Hyundai's protocol to fix the issue. Hyundai has been great throughout the process, paying for the tow, rental, and engine replacement. Although it has taken three weeks so far, they anticipated up to six weeks, and I'm hopeful that the car will come back fixed. Other than this issue, everything else is well with the car. I still love the ergonomics and the interior looks great. The gas mileage is about 22 mpg on average and up to 26 mpg on the highway. I recently drove from Dallas to Knoxville and back, and the car was a great cruiser, very comfortable and quiet. I averaged 25 mpg overall for the trip cruising at about 80 most of the way with it set on ECO. My Sport measures up very favorably to my brother's brand new Lexus RX350, which is almost the exact same size. I have not had a single problem with my Sport, and I'm still in love with it at 42,000 miles. I would definitely buy another one!Nice highway cruiser with plenty of power. It still gets about 22mpg in mixed driving and can get up to 28 mpg on the highway if I'm going the speed limit. One of the things I love about this vehicle is its tight turning radius, which makes a big difference and makes it feel smaller. The turbo gives you plenty of power without pushing you back into your seat. Although the steering is a little slow/loose feeling, it's still a great car. However, beware of the enormous blind spot. The third back windows are small and sweep up, which gives a nice look from outside but makes it difficult to see anything. I highly recommend getting the blind spot warning! Overall, I still love everything about this vehicle and will certainly get another one when the time comes!

The car has good looks both inside and out, and some nice touches such as Apple Play. The turbo provides decent acceleration if power isn't needed instantly, and the vehicle is quiet. However, there are some cons to consider. The headlights are poor, and the audio system is horrible (I had to upgrade both). The steering and brakes are mediocre, but still manageable. The biggest issue is the powertrain stumbling when power is suddenly needed at low speeds in heavy traffic situations, such as changing lanes. This can be dangerous and makes the car unsafe. Many others have reported the same issue on the NHTSA website. I would recommend test driving the car at low speeds, say 5 mph, and then suddenly pressing the accelerator to experience the stumbling. Overall, the car has its pros and cons, but it's important to be aware of the potential safety issue with the powertrain.

The car's performance has been disappointing, with a lack of power and poor gas mileage. The suspension provides a harsh ride and the brakes have become less responsive. However, after 22K miles and 18 months of ownership, I have decided to purchase a different vehicle. The Sorento, which I purchased for the same price as the Santa Fe's MSRP, is a much better car in every aspect.

If you're considering buying a Hyundai based on their warranty, it's important to be aware of some potential issues. While we have purchased 5 new Hyundais in the last 9 years, we have unfortunately had some trouble with a two-year-old SUV with 48k miles. Despite our disappointment, we understand that sometimes things don't go as planned. We have had some difficulty getting information about our warranty claim, but we are confident that Hyundai will work with us to resolve the issue. We appreciate their commitment to customer care and look forward to continuing our relationship with them.

I have owned three Santa Fe Sports - a 2013, 2014, and now a 2017. While the previous models were satisfactory, I have to say that the 2017 model has been a disappointment. I purchased it in April 2016 and within months, the AC/heat began to emit an unpleasant odor. Despite bringing it in for service multiple times, the issue persists. Additionally, the car has developed a strange noise from the undercarriage during slow wide turns, which has yet to be resolved. The car also experienced significant vibration issues, which required multiple trips to the dealership to fix. While some of these issues have been addressed, the steering wheel still vibrates at certain speeds, which I was informed is normal for this vehicle. The car has also had a transmission software update due to shuddering and bucking, which has improved the situation but not completely resolved it. The car also experiences difficulty starting up in cold weather, despite the fact that I live in Florida. I have had to replace the radio system due to display issues, android auto connectivity problems, and a malfunctioning reverse camera. Despite all of these issues, I will say that the car is spacious and has a user-friendly touch screen. However, I have lost faith in the reliability of this vehicle and the brand as a whole. I am currently at a dealership and have been informed that some of the issues I have experienced cannot be duplicated. As a result, I am looking to trade in this car for a different brand. Otherwise, I am extremely dissatisfied.

The engine failure on my Santa Fe, despite having a recall check a few months prior, was a frustrating experience for me and my family. It is concerning that there have been multiple reports of engine and transmission issues from people in my close circle who own Santa Fes and Tucsons. As a responsible car owner who follows the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, I am disappointed with the quality of the engine. I have lost faith in this brand and will not be returning to it in the future.
