The Hyundai Ioniq is a compact five-door liftback manufactured and marketed by Hyundai. The nameplate Ioniq is a portmanteau of ion and unique. It is marketed as the first Hyundai automobile to be offered without a standard internal combustion engine, but rather sold in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric variants.
The Ioniq Hybrid debuted in South Korea in January 2016, with all three variants debuting at 2016 Geneva and New York auto shows. The hybrid variant launched in its home market in February 2016, followed by the electric model in July 2016. The plug-in hybrid version followed in February 2017.
From its first model year (2017) through the 2019 model year, the Ioniq Electric had been the EPA's most efficient vehicle with a rated fuel economy of 136 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (24.8 kWh/100 mi; 15.4 kWh/100 km). The Ioniq Blue Hybrid version has been rated at 4.1 L/100 km (58 mpg‑US), making it the most fuel-efficient hybrid vehicle to be mass-produced.
Following its discontinuation in South Korea in 2021, production of the Ioniq ended in July 2022 in favour of battery electric lineup of Ioniq-badged models starting from the Ioniq 5 hatchback and Ioniq 6 sedan with Ioniq 7 to follow.

- Summary: Just before 3 PM on Sunday, 14MAY, my Hyundai Ioniq had been charging for a few hours as usual and I heard a circuit breaker "pop". I went outside to check on my car, and my car had started smoking. I immediately unplugged the charger and after the smoke cleared, found that both the charger I purchased months ago and the charge port on the Ioniq had melted. This rendered both items unusable. This is available for inspection. If I had not been home while the car was charging, if the car was inside, or if this had happened at any public charging station, this could of course cause any number of issues, from fire, to being exposed to the carcinogens of the burning/smoking plastics of the port and charger. The vehicle has been inspected by a GEICO insurance adjuster as well as Annapolis Hyundai.

AT THE END OF THE WEEK, ON THE WEEKEND THE ODOR WAS NOTICED WHEN THE CAR WAS DRIVEN HOME, AND AFTER IT GOT HOME. THE HOOD WAS OPENED AND IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE 12V AUX BATTERY WAS BLOATED ON ONE SIDE, WAS STEAMING VAPOR OUT OF ONE SIDE, AND WAS VERY HOT. THE CAR WAS POWERED OFF AND LOOKED AT AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING. THE CAR WOULD NOT OPEN AND HAD TO BE ACCESSED WITH THE MANUAL KEY. THE BATTERY VOLTAGE MEASURED WAS ONLY 2V. THE SAFETY CONCERN IS THAT THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A 12V BATTERY ISSUE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN ADDITION TO THAT CONCERN, WHAT DOES THE CAR DO IF YOU ARE DRIVING AND THE BATTERY HAS A MAJOR FAILURE? DOES THE CAR CONTINUE TO DRIVE, OR BECOME DISABLED ON THE SPOT PUTTING THE DRIVER AT RISK?

THE ECHO OCCURS REGARDLESS OF THE TYPE/BRAND OR CELL PHONE OR LANDLINE. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO HAVE THE SERVICE TECH HEAR AN ECHO. STILL, THEY HAVN'T BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. THIS IS ALSO HAPPENING ON MY OTHER VEHCILE, A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT.

- Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI IONIQ ELECTRIC. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI INLAND EMPIRE (25072 REDLANDS BLVD, LOMA LINDA, CA 92354) FOR A KEY REPLACEMENT. WHEN THE CONTACT PLACED THE GEAR IN REVERSE AND ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE HIS FOOT FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UP TO 20 MPH WHILE IN REVERSE. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE SAME DEALER WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 600.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Ioniq electric vehicles. An unstable electrical ground may cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode with reduced acceleration and power. In certain conditions while in fail-safe mode, the vehicle may accelerate after the gas pedal is released.
- Consequence: Unexpected acceleration following gas pedal release can increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will update the EPCU (Electric Power Control Unit) software and repair the ground wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 9, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 215.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017 Ioniq Electric Vehicles. Manufacturing defects within the Electronic Power Control Unit (EPCU) may allow coolant to contact the unit's circuit board.
- Consequence: If coolant contacts the EPCU, a stall may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EPCU, as necessary, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk are expected were mailed October 26, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Hyundai Customer Service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 166.
