2014 Hyundai Elantra gt problems
The Hyundai Elantra, also known as the Hyundai Avante (Korean: 현대 아반떼), is a compact car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai since 1990. The Elantra was initially marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model; similarly, in other markets, the name Avante is not used due to its similarity with Audi's "Avant" designation, which is used for their line-up of station wagons. The name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (except in South Korea and Singapore).
First generation (J1; 1990)
The Elantra (codename J1) was launched in October 1990, and received a mid-term facelift in 1993.
It was sold in Europe from the spring of 1991. It replaced the somewhat larger on the outside Stellar, although that model had not been offered in many markets. The Elantra competed with the likes of the Ford Sierra and Vauxhall Cavalier/Opel Vectra, but at a considerably lower price.
The Elantra was powered by a Mitsubishi-designed 1.6 L (1595 cc) straight-four. This DOHC 16-valve 1.6 L unit produced 113 PS (83 kW) at 6000 rpm and could push the Elantra to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 9.5 seconds. The quarter-mile (0.4 km) run took 17.1 seconds and produced 129 km/h (80 mph). Top speed was 187 km/h (116 mph). The Elantra got 22 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km) in the city cycle. Starting in 1993 a Mitsubishi-designed 1.8 L (1836 cc) inline-four option was available; this unit produces 135 PS (99 kW) at 6000 rpm and replaced the twin-cam 1.6 in the home market.

Common 2014 Hyundai Elantra gt problems
The 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to engine issues and steering complaints.
- Recall over Brake Pedal Stopper Deterioration: In November 2017, Hyundai recalled certain 2013-2014 Elantra sedan, coupe, and GT vehicles due to the brake pedal stopper pad deteriorating. This can cause the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released, allowing the brake lights to stay on. Additionally, deterioration of the brake pedal stopper may allow the shift lever to be moved without depressing the brake pedal or activate the engine management brake pedal override feature.
- Steering Complaints: Steering issues with the 2014 Hyundai Elantra are the second most reported complaint with the NHTSA. Owners have experienced difficulty maneuvering the vehicle's steering wheel, with some reporting that the steering wheel locks up in its center position, making it challenging to turn left or right without aggressively tugging the wheel toward its intended position.
These common problems with the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT highlight the need for owners to be aware of potential issues and take appropriate action to address them. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and prevent these problems from becoming more severe.

- Summary: I submitted an online repair request to Capitol Hyundai of San Jose for ABS Fuse Replacement (XXX) Recall Code: 251. However, their website shows no available appointment dates in 2024, 2025, or 2026. My concern was that not having any repair appointment slots available for this recall amounted to a refusal to perform the recall work. I submitted a complaint to Hyundai Consumer Affairs [XXX] ) regarding Capitol Hyundai's refusal to service this recall, but was told the following: "State laws limit our ability to intervene with dealership transactions as each Hyundai dealership is independently owned and operated. We recommend you contact the manager of the service department or the General Manager of the dealership at (408) 445-1500 to discuss your concerns with there not being any availability at their location." In other words, Hyundai Consumer Affairs said that it could not require that Capitol Hyundai perform the recall work. I am concerned that Capitol Hyundai of San Jose is refusing to repair my vehicle by blocking all appointment dates related to this recall. I have owned this car since July 2014 and I must say it is one of the best cars I have ever owned. As long as you maintain it with regular maintenance, there are no issues mechanically or otherwise. I have only had to change the battery and fix the GPS once, but other than those two things, nothing else has gone wrong.

I've been driving my GT for about 4 months now and I must say, I'm impressed with its performance. Although it felt a bit sluggish at first, after putting a few miles on it (now 4,000 miles), it's been running great and the MPG is equal to the EPA figure. I've learned a couple of tricks that have made driving even more enjoyable, such as starting in 2nd gear when in manual mode and using sport steering mode only on windy days. I usually keep it in sport mode and it handles beautifully. I was initially worried about the space for 4 adults, but after taking a weekend trip with 4 adults and all our luggage, I was pleasantly surprised that there was enough room and nobody complained about comfort. The handling is better than ever and it never disappoints. Although the fuel economy around town is lower than expected, it could be due to my short trips and frequent stops at traffic lights. I haven't had any mechanical problems or issues so far, which is a relief. The only thing that's been out of the norm is that the daytime running lights have needed to be replaced sooner than expected. However, the seats are still comfortable and I haven't had to replace the tires, belts or brakes yet. Overall, I'm still very happy with my car and it always puts a smile on my face, especially when I take it through the twisties where driving is the best. If I had to make any improvements, I would suggest more power, a better stereo, cooled seats, and switching the placement of the odometer and tachometer. But even without those improvements, I'm still a happy driver.

I love this car! It's comfortable, sporty, quiet, and affordable.

I leased this car because I got a great deal, but I'll probably end up buying it at the end of the lease. The gas mileage is awesome - I always drive in ECO mode and consistently get at least 36 mpg. I don't go over the speed limit and I don't 'rabbit' start my car, which makes a big difference in the gas mileage. The interior is roomy and very comfortable, although it doesn't have as much space as my old 2005 Toyota Matrix. I love the Bluetooth option - I'll never go without it again. The car has plenty of speed and power, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it does in the snow.

Hi there! This is my 3rd review of my 2014 Elantra GT, manual. I still think this is a great car, and I've had it for a year and a half now. I wonder why there aren't more of them on the road? The gas mileage is low 30s at best, maybe that's why. However, I still think it's up there with the Mazda3, but I do miss the driving dynamics of a Mazda. I'm tempted to trade it/sell it for a new Mazda3 hatchback, but this car has everything I want, so I'm thinking it would be silly to unload it with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer. Maybe in a year or two after I have another 20K on it. I've had no mechanical problems with this Elantra GT and certainly don't anticipate any in the next several years. It seems to be very well built. Thanks for reading!

I recently purchased a new car after giving my Pontiac Vibe to my daughter (which I absolutely loved). I opted for the Elantra, which unfortunately did not meet my expectations. During my 60-mile commute on the turnpike, I noticed that the car shakes when I drive with the windows open, making the noise level intolerable. It feels like being in a wind tunnel. Additionally, the angle of the driver's seat is fixed and uncomfortable for me (I'm 5'9

This was a great little car until one day the motor seized. No warning. Oil changes were done on a regular basis. However, there is a known problem with these cars. It's best to avoid them if possible. We were lucky that we had the motor replaced 100% paid for by Hyundai, but many owners are not so fortunate. I recommend looking it up.

I would highly recommend considering other options before purchasing this car. Unfortunately, I have had a number of issues with it, including problems with the transmission, motor, clutch, and ecu. Despite having had a significant amount of work done on it, the car still requires further repairs. In my experience, the local Hyundai dealer and the manufacturer have not been helpful in resolving these issues. If you are looking for a reliable car, I would suggest considering a Honda instead. Thank you for considering my experience.

I purchased this car in 2018 with 60k miles on it. It had all the extras - bluetooth, sunroof, leather, navigation, and more. I really enjoyed driving it as it was small and economical. However, I was surprised when I blew a tire on a pothole, but I guess that comes with this type of car. I made sure to change the oil and keep up with regular maintenance. Unfortunately, one day I heard a slight knocking from the engine and by the time I made it to my destination, it was loud (like you could hear it across the parking lot). Apparently, there is a known problem that causes metal to enter the oil/pistons, ultimately rendering the engine useless. Although the car is under 100k miles, I am not the original owner so it is not covered under warranty. It has also not been recalled. I received a quote for a replacement of $3k-$4k, but unfortunately, there are no available engines due to high demand. Now it's just a nice looking driveway ornament. While this may not be everyone's experience, I know it's not singular.

I understand your frustration, but I would like to offer a different perspective. While Hyundai cars may not be the most expensive on the market, they are still reliable and offer great value for their price. I encourage you to consider all of your options before making a final decision. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
