Lincoln Town car 1977 problems
The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.
Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).
From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.
Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common Lincoln Town car 1977 problems
The Lincoln Town Car, produced between 1981 and 2011, has been a popular choice for luxury car enthusiasts. However, the 1977 model, like any other vehicle, has its fair share of common problems that owners have reported over the years.
One of the most frequently reported issues with the 1977 Lincoln Town Car is its fuel system problems. These issues can range from a dirty and clogged carburetor, which was the main problem for one owner, to other problems such as a faulty fuel pump, fuel filter, water pump, or radiator. In some cases, the fuel pump may be located on the motor, and it's possible to test it by taking the pick-up line that goes to the tank and putting it in a can of gas. If the pump is working, it will warm up. However, it's recommended to drop the tank and clean it, checking the lines for any issues. The float in the fuel bowl should close the input as it rises, and a bulb syringe for babies can be used to move small amounts of fuel around.
Another common problem with the 1977 Lincoln Town Car is its air conditioning (A/C) system. Some owners have reported that their A/C suddenly broke down and stopped working without any warnings. Others have reported abnormal smells coming from their A/C before failure. Multiple technical service bulletins (TSBs) have been issued to address these issues.
The 1977 Lincoln Town Car's suspension system can also cause problems for owners. Some have reported that the car sags due to faulty air suspension. This issue can be dangerous, as it can increase the risk of accidents.
Finally, the 1977 Lincoln Town Car's electrical system can also cause problems for owners. Some have reported that their car's solenoid, which mounts to the wheel well, blew after they sprayed starting fluid in the carb too many times. This issue can cause the car to crank constantly without the key in the ignition.
In summary, the 1977 Lincoln Town Car has several common problems that owners have reported over the years. These issues include fuel system problems, A/C system issues, suspension system problems, and electrical system problems. If you own a 1977 Lincoln Town Car, it's essential to be aware of these issues and address them promptly to ensure your safety and the longevity of your vehicle.

Why did Lincoln stop making the Town Car?
Although remaining Lincoln's top-selling model, calendar-year sales declined each year for the Town Car between 1986 and 1989. This decline was mostly blamed on its aging design and the increased popularity of the Continental which had been fully redesigned for 1988.
