2017 Gmc Yukon problems

The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.

For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.

The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.

The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.

The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

Common 2017 Gmc Yukon problems

The 2017 GMC Yukon has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to fuel injectors and door lock actuators.

One of the most frequently reported problems is the failure of fuel injectors, which can lead to engine misfiring and poor performance. GMC has issued a service bulletin to replace injectors in vehicles exhibiting misfires and excessive engine noise.

Another common problem with the 2017 Yukon is an issue with the door lock actuators. These are known to fail, and it is a problem that has plagued GM vehicles for over 20 years. Usually, you will notice the actuators begin to slow down before they fail and require replacement.

In addition to these issues, there have been reports of transmission problems in the 2017 GMC Yukon. A sudden jolt or jerk when downshifting into second gear has been reported, which can be extremely dangerous as it can cause drivers to lose control of their car, potentially causing serious accidents. GMC has not yet released a permanent fix for this transmission problem and is asking owners to take their car to a GMC dealership to try to address the issue.

Furthermore, there have been reports of hard shifts when accelerating or decelerating, which can interfere with the vehicle's safety and performance. GMC has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) to address this problem, but many drivers have complained that GMC has not issued an official recall for this problem.

Navigation and radio freezes have also been reported by 2017 GMC Yukon owners. This issue can be extremely frustrating and make it difficult to use key features of the car. Again, GMC has issued a TSB to address this problem, but many drivers have reported that the TSB does not fix the issue.

Electrical disruptions like these interfere with your vehicle’s performance, which could be sufficient grounds for a claim under GMC lemon law.

It is important to note that if you are experiencing any of these problems with your 2017 GMC Yukon, you should take your car to a GMC dealership or authorized GMC service center and have it inspected. If GMC has issued a recall for your particular defect, they can make the necessary repairs free of charge. Be sure to keep all documentation related to this visit, including any repair orders, as it will be important if you do end up filing a GMC lemon law claim.

If GMC cannot fix the problem after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to a refund or replacement vehicle. However, it is important to note that each state has its own lemon laws with different eligibility requirements. A local lemon law lawyer can help you determine if you’re eligible for a refund or replacement under your state’s particular lemon laws and help you navigate the complicated claims process.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-08
  • VIN: 1GKS2BKC3HR
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: I was stopped at a red light in the left hand turning lane and when the light turned green I proceeded to accelerate and the engine would rev but the car would not move forward so I continued to push on the gas when the car jolted forward Violently. I am lucky no one was in front of me because this would have cause a car accident. Turns out the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced which is a common issue for GM however they never owned up to it and refused to pay to for the cost of the replacement and I paid several thousands out of pocket. This is a major safety concern and could be potentially life threatening. GM should recognize this as a recall and take ownership of a failed transmission with less than 100,000 miles.

There's even multiple websites to repair them as well as auto supply stores selling replacements for $1,000 and the dealership wants $1,500. This is a real problem and GM needs to make this right and recall all of these and replace them before somebody gets hurt if they haven't already.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-09-14
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 1GKS2BKC4HR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: This happened 5 years ago but I never reported it. GMC 2017 Yukon. I put my SUV in park, and entered and exited it several times while parked in my driveway. When I went to grab my purse (standing at drivers side door, reaching for purse on passenger seat) the car rolled. I was on a sloped driveway. The car rolled backwards, and I tried to jam it into park more strongly, but it just made a grinding noise and kept going. I was knocked over by the car door, pulled under the car and ended up having my legs run over by the car. I sustained injuries which affect me to this day. I was transported to the hospital by an ambulance after a 911 call, so I presume there is a police report. I was injured and dazed. This happened on [XXX]. I am only reporting it now since I never thought about doing so before I read an article today about cars being recalled for this problem. If other people have my model of car and this is a problem, I would want them to know. I was thinking maybe I hit the gear shift with my purse and knocked it out of park, but this should not have happened without the brake depressed. I was standing next to the drivers side door when this happened. I did have the car taken to the dealership to be examined, and they said it was ok, but could not really explain how this happened. I still have this SUV but am very cautious about any situation where the car could roll when in park and cause injury. The car crashed into a tree and that stopped the rolling. Has there been other reports of this happening with this model of car? I would like to know, because if there is a problem that has come to light in this, I will get a different vehicle! EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-25
  • VIN: 1GKS2CKJ9HR
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: Rear (Tail/Stop) lights on both sides, would work intermittently. Turns out it’s a known issue with the LED circuit boards. They consistently break in 2 places, leaving the vehicle with no tail lights/stip lights. GM knows of the issue , but since it’s NOT CONSIDERED a Safety Issue, they do nothing. It’s clearly a safety issue, as following drivers may not see lights, on the rear. Clearly, it is definitely a safety issue, as it can easily cause an accident, not knowing a car is there in the dark , or not knowing that the vehicle in front of them is on the brakes, and slowing.

After heading to slow lane and few seconds later everything went back to normal. A week later same thing happened but this time it wouldn’t shift to second gear. I was stranded on side of road. Before calling help , I let it idle for a few minutes and tried again to put in drive, it worked again. I made it home. Next day it just started making a loud noise under truck. Was able to get a mechanic and he said it’s the transmission. Has 103k miles and is out of warranty

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-01
  • VIN: 1GKS1CKJ9HR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: Tail Brake Light failure The tail brake lights have gone out on a vehicle that isn't 10 years old yet. Tail lights should not go out this quickly and the dealership will kindly replace them at $1300 per tail light. This is absolutely absurd! It is available for inspection. This definitely puts myself and others at risk! Yes, this problem has been confirmed and inspected by a GMC dealer. Advised this is a very common problem with this vehicle. There are no warning lamps or messages to alert when the brake lights have gone out. Instrument Cluster failure The instrument cluster is also faulty in this truck. This is the 2nd time within a year that i have had issues with this. Safety concern is that you will not know if the vehicle is running hot because the gauges stop working. Also runs the battery down as the fan continues to run for about 10 minutes after the vehicle is turned off. Yes, the problem has been confirmed and inspected by a dealer. Advised that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. No, there are no warning lamps or messages to alert you of the problem. You just notice a different noise while driving, the gauges stop working and then when you turn it off, the fan continues to run.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-19
  • VIN: 1GKS2BKCXHR
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: The engine light has come on spuradically for the last 1.5 years and has been consistently on since May of 2023. This starting approx. 95,000 miles. During this time after starting the Yukon it is chuggy and missing, as I drive off it jerks and darts forward. Seems to be when I stop and start to go this happens, again engine light is always on...sometimes flashing. Starting 9/19/23 (106,000 miles) when slowing down to turn into a parking lot the engine revved high, no movement with the touch of the gas pedal and suddenly takes off with a jerk and a squeal of the tires. VERY SCARY. Since then I have experienced this DAILY, at least once a day. So far it is when I am going slow, either taking off and accelerating or slowing down. The engine and RPMS rev up and go high with no way of moving when touching the gas pedal then suddenly jerks and takes off with the tires squealing. I am also experiencing the transmission shifting VERY hard, mainly when slowing down. I am feeling very timid and scared to drive this vehicle...this is a seriously dangerous situation and can cause a serious accident or life! I believe this fits into the description of the GM Class Action Lawsuit filed over transmission problems. When I previously talked to the dealership they kept saying that there was no recall for the problems and to bring it in. I am not going to continue to get things fixed that do not fix this problem, as I have already. I know of a friend who has the same vehicle/year only a Tahoe and is experiencing the same problem and had work done at a dealership with no fix for their issue neither. Something has to happen with this problem from GM! The contact stated the issue has gotten worse pushing down the gas pedal rendering the vehicle immobile, then all of a sudden it jerks and shifts into gear jolting the vehicle forward.

2017 Gmc Yukon recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2017 Gmc Yukon.

2019-10-24
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
  • Consequence: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.
2019-09-06
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
  • Consequence: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.
2016-09-08
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
  • Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.
