2000 Gmc Savana 2500 problems
The Chevrolet Express (also known as the GMC Savana) is a series of full-size vans produced by General Motors since 1996. The successor to the Chevrolet G-series van, the Express is produced in passenger and cargo variants. Alongside the standard van body, the line is offered as a cutaway van chassis; the latter vehicle is a chassis cab variant developed for commercial-grade applications, including ambulances, buses, motorhomes, and small trucks.
In production for a single generation since 1995, over 2.5 million examples of the Express and the Savana have been produced. One of the longest-produced designs in American automotive history, the Express/Savana are rivaled only by the Jeep Wagoneer and Dodge Ram Van for longevity.
Since 1995, General Motors has assembled the Express and Savana at its Wentzville Assembly facility (Wentzville, Missouri). Also, since 2017, GM has sourced commercial cutaway-chassis production from Navistar through its Springfield Assembly Plant (Springfield, Ohio).

Common 2000 Gmc Savana 2500 problems
The GMC Savana 2500, first introduced in the year 2000, has been a popular choice for those seeking a hard-working van. However, like any vehicle, it has been subject to a few common problems, particularly with its engine and transmission.
One of the most common engine problems is the transmission getting stuck in the third gear. This issue is prevalent in 4L60E and 4L65E types of transmission. The cause of this problem may be a malfunction with the instrument cluster, with DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set at P0753, P0740, P1860, and P0785. The most likely culprit is an open circuit 1020 between the transmission and fuse panel or a blown fuse. If the fuse has no battery voltage, the ignition switch may need to be replaced.
Another engine issue is an abnormally harsh 1-2 shift experienced by 4L60E Transmission RPO M30. This problem indicates excessive bore wear that holds the regulator valves and TCC isolator, resulting in extreme line pressure. The only solution for this issue is the replacement of the 4L60E valve body with isolator valves and a revised TCC regulator.
In some cases, there may be no movement when shifting to the third gear or Drive position, indicating a problem with the GMC Savana 2500. This issue can be resolved by replacing the forward sprag assembly.
There is another common problem with 4L60E Transmission and 4L65E Transmission. The first and third gears seem to function correctly, but there are problems with the 2nd, 3rd, and reverse gears. The solution is to replace the heat-treated 4L60E / 4L65 sun gear, which is a failure of the reaction sun gear.
In addition to these engine problems, the GMC Savana 2500 has also been subject to recalls. One such recall is related to the power steering cooler hose that can separate from the power brake booster fluid flow witch assembly. If this occurs, power steering fluid could flow onto hot engine parts, leading to an engine compartment fire. This issue affects passenger vans equipped with a brake warning indicator.
Another recall is related to the transmission shift cable assembly that may separate in certain vans. If the cable assembly separates, the transmission shift lever position and the transmission indicator may no longer correspond.
In summary, the GMC Savana 2500 has been subject to common engine problems, including transmission issues and recalls related to power steering and transmission components. It is essential for owners to address these issues promptly to ensure the safe and reliable operation of their vehicles.
