The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.

In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.

The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

Based on complaints from owners of the GMC S15 1980, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:

  1. Starting Issues: Owners have reported difficulties with starting the GMC S15. This problem can manifest as the truck cranking but not starting, which could be due to damaged starter wires or ignition switch issues. In some cases, the engine may continue running even after the key is turned off, requiring ignition system repairs.
  2. Electrical Problems: Electrical issues are common in the GMC S15, such as malfunctioning lights, gauge failures when turning on lights, and aftermarket radio installation causing electrical disruptions. These problems can lead to issues like persistent blinker lights on the dash, gauge malfunctions, and overall electrical system instability.
  3. Heating and Air Conditioning Malfunctions: Some owners have reported issues with the heating and air conditioning systems in the GMC S15. Complaints include a lack of airflow when trying to use the air conditioning or heating, indicating potential problems with the ventilation system that may require inspection and repair.

  5. These leaks can be challenging to locate and may require thorough inspection and repair to prevent further damage.
  6. Engine Stalling and Performance Problems: Owners have experienced engine stalling, rough idling, and performance issues even after replacing essential components like the fuel pump, coil, and spark plugs. These problems can be challenging to diagnose and may require comprehensive troubleshooting to identify the root cause.
  7. Throttle Body Mounting: Mounting the throttle body on an '89 GMC S-15 can be a specific challenge, requiring proper installation techniques to ensure optimal performance and functionality of the throttle system.
  8. Engine Swap Compatibility: Some owners have expressed interest in swapping the V4 engine of the GMC S15 with a 6.0 engine, raising concerns about the compatibility of stock axles with the new engine. This swap may require additional modifications and compatible components for successful installation.
