In line with the Oldsmobile Bravada, the Envoy was fitted with a leather-trim interior, floor-mounted shifter, and a largely monochromatic exterior with aluminum-alloy wheels. In line with the TrailBlazer and the Bravada, the Envoy trim was offered only in the five-door version.
The Envoy had many extra features not available on the regular Jimmy 4-door including: a remote trunk release, heated driver's and passenger's seats, a Bose sound system, and High Intensity Discharge headlights. Optional features included: a power sunroof, a panic alarm, an anti-theft system, and a power front driver & passenger seat.
GMC ended sales of the first generation Envoy after the 2000 model year as the division adopted the name to replace the entire Jimmy SUV line for 2002.

- Summary: ON THIS MODEL OF TRAILBLAZERS AND ENVOYS THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING LINE CRACKING ON THE BACK SIDE IF THE STEERING SHAFT, CAUSING FLUID TO SPRAY OUT AND IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. WHEN THIS LINE BROKE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH MY 4 KIDS IN THE VEHICLE, AND SHE WAS BARELY ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE OUT OF TRAFFIC TO A SAFE SPOT, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THESE SUV'S AND FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.

- Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE A REAR SIDE CLOSURE LATCH THAT MAY NOT LATCH OR UNLATCH DUE TO CORROSION CAUSED BY ROAD SPLASH, SUCH AS WATER AND ROAD SALT. THESE VEHICLES WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE FOLLOWING STATES: CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
- Consequence: IF THE DOOR IS NOT LATCHED PROPERLY AND IT GOES UNNOTICED, IT MAY OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IF AN UNBELTED OCCUPANT FELL OUT OF THE VEHICLE, PERSONAL INJURIES COULD OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SEAL ALONG THE LOWER PART OF THE ROCKER PANEL TO PREVENT INTRUSION OF CORROSIVE MATERIAL, AND INSPECT THE REAR SIDE CLOSURE LATCHES. FUNCTIONAL LATCHES WILL BE CLEANED AND LUBRICATED. NON-FUNCTIONING LATCHES WILL BE REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 24, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463, OR ISUZU AT 1-800-255-6727.

- Summary: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, VIBRATION AND HEAT MAY CAUSE THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP BULB TO LOOSEN IN ITS SOCKET. IF THIS OCCURS, THE BULB MAY FLICKER AND EVENTUALLY BECOME INOPERATIVE.
- Consequence: AN INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION OF STOPPING TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES, AND AN INOPERATIVE REAR TURN SIGNAL LAMP WILL NOT CONVEY THE DRIVER'S INTENTION TO TURN TO DRIVERS IN FOLLOWING VEHICLES. BOTH OF THESE FAILURES CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE TAIL LAMP/STOP LAMP ASSEMBLIES, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THEM. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 22, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-630-6537, BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, OR GMC AT 1-866-996-9463.

- Summary: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEMS THAT WILL NOT TURN ON, CEASE OPERATION WHILE IN USE, FAIL TO TURN OFF/ON BY THEMSELVES (MOISTURE SENSITIVE WIPER SYSTEM), OR HAVE CONTINUOUS WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP OPERATION BECAUSE THE PRESENCE OF WATER WITHIN THE WIPER MODULES CAN EITHER CAUSE A SHORT CIRCUIT OR CAN LEAD TO THE CORROSION OF COMPONENTS WITHIN THE MODULE.
- Consequence: DEPENDING ON THE OCCURRENCE AND WEATHER SITUATION, DRIVER VISIBILITY COULD BE REDUCED, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL COVER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE VENT HOLE WITH A PATCH. ALSO, THE WIPER MOTOR, CIRCUIT BOARD, AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WILL BE INSPECTED TO SIGNS OF WATER INTRUSION AND/OR CORROSION AND BE REPLACED AS REQUIRED. THE RECALL BEGAN JULY 6, 2004. I researched many SUVs that could accommodate 7 passengers, and the Envoy XL was the best option I found in terms of price, options, and cargo area. I decided to upgrade to the SLT and wanted the DVD option, but it was no longer available. Instead, I opted for the moon roof and had the DVD installed (I have 3 kids). I have owned it for a month now, and I must say, it rides like a Cadillac. This is my first experience with trucks, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my Envoy XL. I absolutely love it! It has been so versatile and has helped me haul so many things, including 7 passengers. I've only had to take it back to the dealer twice, and one of those times was just for a minor cosmetic issue. Unfortunately, it's time for me to get a new vehicle (I like to switch every 7 years before my GM credit card dollars expire), but I'm having trouble finding a replacement that I like as much as my Envoy XL. The Acadia is the closest option, but I'm not a fan of the back glass not opening. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I can tell how much you love your Envoy! It sounds like it has everything you need, from a spacious interior with a third row of seats to luxurious features like a moonroof and leather interior. The user settings for each driver and remote start are also great touches. Thank you for recommending this truck so highly!

Hi there! I've actually owned this vehicle for over 4 years now and I must say, it's been a great ride! Despite putting on high mileage in local driving, I've found it to be quite comfortable, with plenty of shoulder room and really comfortable seats.

Quiet as a church mouse. Heated seats are great. Great mileage for a full size rig. Cup holders are a bit awkward, but overall, it's a comfortable ride. The fold-down design of the backseats can interfere with moving the front seats back, but the front and rear seats are comfortable. While I'm not a fan of the automatic temperature control, the dual temperature controls are great. The car also has great power and looks great too!

The Envoy XL was chosen for its smooth ride and 7 seating capability. Although initial quality was a disappointment, with required repairs to the front differential kit, audio tuner, and mirror auto-dimming before 10K miles, no other problems have occurred since. While the dealer was moderately helpful, they were a real pain when it came to the differential problem. Overall, I am uncertain if I would purchase this vehicle again.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my review. I wanted to share my personal experience with the reliability of American made cars. In my experience, I have found that the dealerships have not been as committed to the product and the service has been less than satisfactory. However, I have found that Toyota (Lexus) and Honda (Acura) have been reliable choices for me and I plan on sticking with them for the foreseeable future. Thank you for considering my thoughts.

Hey there! Just wanted to give you a heads up about the 2002 Envoy. We've had a bit of trouble with ours - it's been in the shop 5 times since we bought it and there have been a few recalls. We've had to have it towed to the dealership twice because it wouldn't start. Unfortunately, we haven't had the best experience with Haydocy's service department - they've been pretty slow and unresponsive. Just thought you should know!

The package offers great room, style, and garageability. The ride is very smooth and the steering is fine, especially for a big package. The radio is also great. However, there have been some issues with the electronic components of the car. The 4WD system has broken down twice, and there have been issues with lights and switches. Despite these issues, the dealership has not been very helpful in resolving them. It is important to be cautious when considering this car.
