Genesis G70 2019 problems
The Genesis G70 (Korean: 제네시스 G70) is a four-door compact executive car manufactured by the Korean luxury automaker Genesis, a luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group.
The G70 debuted on September 15, 2017, at a global launch event in Seoul's Olympic Park. It is Genesis Motor's third model and was designed to compete with compact executive and entry-level luxury saloons and sedans. The Genesis G70 was named the 2019 North American Car of the Year.
Overview
The Genesis G70 was under development for several years and was previewed by the Genesis New York Concept and shown at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The design was drafted by German auto designer Peter Schreyer, who is also responsible for designing the related Kia Stinger. Development of the G70 took place at Hyundai Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong, South Korea.
The exterior design shares cues from the other two Genesis models, the G80 and the G90. The grille features Genesis' corporate design, with functional air intakes along the bottom and side. The LED headlights operate with separate daytime running lights. The rear has an athletic stance, framed by LED taillights and dual exhausts.
The interior's center console is constructed out of soft-touch plastics, leather & genuine metal accents that are slightly angled toward the driver. The layout has three large knobs for the climate controls, an eight-inch touch screen, and a small electronic shifter. The interior appointments on the G70 include quilted leather seating surfaces, along with brushed aluminum and stainless steel trim.

Common Genesis G70 2019 problems
The 2019 Genesis G70, a luxury sedan, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include electrical problems, transmission issues, and dealership experience concerns.
Electrical problems are among the most frequently reported issues with the 2019 G70. One of the primary concerns is a flickering infotainment display, which can be both distracting and limit driver access to features. Additionally, the screen can fail to show the rearview camera shot, creating a safety issue.
Transmission issues are another significant concern for the 2019 Genesis G70. Many owners have reported that the transmission in their '19 G70s will get stuck in one gear and not shift. In some cases, the car can get stuck in park, leaving the driver unable to go anywhere. This problem can lead to the car stalling while driving, which is a significant safety concern.
Dealership experience is an area where the 2019 G70 has room for improvement. Some owners have reported that the dealership experience can be improved, especially when compared to rival luxury automakers. This can make dealing with issues worse than they actually are.
In summary, the 2019 Genesis G70 has several common problems, including electrical issues, transmission problems, and dealership experience concerns. These issues can impact the car's safety, reliability, and overall ownership experience.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-17
- VIN: KMTG34LE3KU
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On numerous occasions, while driving with the adaptive cruise control on, at highway speeds, and no other vehicles near me, the system emits several beeps, shows that I'm close to a vehicle ahead of me (there isn't one), and initiates hard braking for maybe a couple of seconds. It is VERY disconcerting, and I haven't been able to find a common denominator for this issue, except that it seems to only happen during daylight hours, on sunny days. Should this happen while another car is following me, this could certainly cause an accident.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-01
- VIN: KMTG34LA6KU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Hi, I’m an Automotive technician writing on behalf of my Girlfriend. She drives a 2019 Genesis G70 2.0T. Her High pressure fuel pump failed Diagnosed by me. Throwing the Code P0088 which is a too high pressure in fuel rail system code. She was driving to work in the morning about last week and was on the highway when the car completely lost power and would not move at all on the Highway she takes to work. Fortunately she was able to get the car limped home safely and no one was hurt but after this I contacted Genesis about the open recall they have for the high pressure fuel pump and asked if they could help us out even though there was no remedy available yet according to them and we had no help. Case manager just told us basically we have to pay out of pocket and that Genesis will not reimburse us for this inconvenience. The bulletin they released regarding the Recall states if the car has a check engine light for the high pressure fuel pump that it would be replaced at no cost to the owner regardless of Warranty situations. But they refuse to help. That’s why I am writing this because my Girlfriend needs a working vehicle to get to work and safely. Genesis needs to own up because I should not have to pay over 1000$ out of pocket because of a manufacturer mistake.

- Summary: From six to ten times over the past year, while at highway speeds, the adaptive cruise control has suddenly sounded warning chimes and momentarily engaged emergency braking, when there is no other vehicle or object ahead of me. Fortunately, it has not happened when I had a vehicle close following me. Recently this happened three times on a three hour highway trip, and once again the following morning, also on a highway. On 11/07/23 I took it to the Genesis dealer, but the technician was unable to reproduce the problem.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-01
- VIN: KMTG64LAXKU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Dear NHTSA, I am writing to lodge a formal complaint about significant safety issues that I have encountered with my 2019 Genesis G70 sedan. The driver and passenger seats in my car will recline but will not return to an upright position, making it impossible for either the driver or the passenger to wear a seatbelt. This issue constitutes a severe safety hazard. I brought my car to the dealership for diagnosis, and they acknowledged the problem but initially demanded a diagnostic fee of $245. The car is currently unusable due to the mentioned issue. Despite the severity of these problems, the manufacturer, Genesis, has only agreed to pay 50% of the $10,000 repair bill, citing the expiration of the warranty. I have been diligent in my vehicle maintenance, and these issues are not due to any negligence on my part. Rather, they represent severe and unacceptable manufacturing defects that pose safety risks. I am concerned that other owners might be experiencing similar problems, but these are not being reported due to the diagnostic fee imposed by Genesis. For the reasons above, I implore the NHTSA to investigate these safety issues with the 2019 Genesis G70 sedan.
AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-22
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: KMTG34LE9KU
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I had 2 accidents in the same week. First one was Monday 2-20-2023. Leaving work heading home, I was at a red light. The light turned green and the car in front proceeded to go. As I hit the accelerator, my car ran into the back of a car full speed. Every attempt to stop car and was unsuccessful. I called to make appt at dealership to have car inspected. Before I could get to said appt at dealership, a very similar incident happened again 2 days later as I was pulling into parking lot of work. Pulling into parking spot, my car continued to accelerate into the building. Again, attempted to stop but was unsuccessful. I suffered mild concussion from hitting head on steering wheel. Air bags DID NOT deploy. No warning from car until impact happened. Was taken to hospital via ambulance for further examination.
STRUCTURE,VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-06
- VIN: KMTG34LE0KU
- Components: STRUCTURE,VISIBILITY
- Summary: As I was driving my Genesis G70 on the highway last week in heavy traffic, without any warning, the sunroof exploded. It made a very loud noise and scared the hell out of me. Luckily I maintained control of the vehicle. The sunroof was closed at the time, but the violent buffeting of the sunshade let me know that there was no longer any glass above it. It was a mild 50 degree day, with no snow or ice on the ground or on the vehicles around me. I hadn't hit a pothole or anything like that, and I hadn't driven under any overpass. Nothing came through the sunshade, other than broken glass when I opened it to confirm the failure. I was able to pull over at a rest stop in the next mile or so, and inspect the vehicle. I also took pictures of what was left of the sunroof. It was all shattered and cracked, and about half the glass, from the middle section, was gone. It must have pelted the cars behind me on the highway with glass fragments. I had to remove the remaining broken glass that I thought would likely fly off as I drove home, as well as the glass that had fallen into the interior, and put it in the trunk until I got home. I called Genesis Customer Care from the roadside and told them what had just happened. They have opened a case number, but six days later I still don't know what they plan to do about it. The day after it occurred I also called my insurance agent and my local dealer where I bought the car and told them about it. I'm waiting to find out when I can get the sunroof replaced on my daily driver, and if it will be paid for, along with the rental or loaner car that I'll need while it's in the shop. Neither the dealer or Genesis have asked to see the car or the pictures I took. After doing some research, it seems that sudden failures ("explosions") of the sunroof on Hyundai (and now Genesis) vehicles is not that uncommon. This is a dangerous failure as it could cause the driver to lose control, as well as hitting other cars on the road with glass.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-10-01
- VIN: KMTG34LE6KU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Since it was new, my 2019 Genesis G70 Twin Turbo with AWD has had occasional long hesitation (it happens every couple of days) when I step on the gas, lasting anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds. It happens from a stop, and also at times when the car is going 5-10 mph. The motor has been fully warmed up when this happens. When you step on the gas, the motor is still running but there is no response, no increase in engine rpm, then after a hesitation of up to 10 seconds, it kicks in with a sudden surge of speed. No warning lights come on. Needless to say, this is very dangerous when attempting to pull out into highway traffic, or simply maneuvering around in parking lots or normal traffic conditions. The danger is not just the failure to move, but also the sudden unpredictable lurch forward when it "catches". I brought it to the dealer several times, but it never hesitates when they have it, and they see nothing wrong. The car was scanned by an independent mechanic and he found no codes or any indication of a problem. I tried shutting off Electronic Stability Control but it didn't help. It happens in all modes, including sport mode. This is a continuous issue. The car currently has 12,505 miles on the odometer.

Negative Genesis G70 2019 car reviews
Positive Genesis G70 2019 car reviews
-
An excellent combination of performance and luxury. Feels very similar to the BMW 3 series with a nicer interior. Although I have had a few issues that were covered under warranty, the Genesis valet service has been a big plus. As far as I know, they are the only brand that will bring your loaner car to your workplace or residence while your car is being serviced and return your car to you when work is completed. Overall, I highly recommend this car!

Great car
-
Beautiful, comfortable, fast, and drives like a dream! The prestige, elite, and sport packages are great, and the gas mileage is okay. The only downside is the 400 mile round trip for service. It would be great if Hyundai could service Genesis vehicles in outer and smaller cities. Better service is definitely needed.

This vehicle is a dream machine. I think that covers all areas. Why not try it for yourself? After all this time, I still feel the same way.
-
I noticed one issue with this car - it doesn't have a remote start on the key fob. Instead, the remote start, lock, and unlock functions are on a smartphone application. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work, which can be frustrating, especially considering the price tag of $40,000 for a luxury sports car. I did some research and found that there is an aftermarket fix available for this design flaw, but it does come at a cost of $330.

I leased this car based on the fabulous reviews. However, my experience has been less than ideal. I have had to make multiple trips to the dealership and have faced issues with parts being unavailable for up to 8 months. Additionally, I felt misled by the dealership from the point of purchase to aftersales service. Unfortunately, I have had ongoing issues with the car almost every month, including trim discoloration, sunroof replacement, seat belts not retracting, the car going from drive into neutral, and difficulty shifting from park to reverse. The Voice Command module in the car takes a while to connect, and the GPS often gives directions after a turn has been missed. The gas mileage is not great, and the car lacks pick-up. While there is no back seat to speak of, the back seats do fully fold down, allowing passengers to lay down in the back. Lastly, the hood doesn't latch evenly on both sides. I hope these issues can be resolved soon.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with the Genesis G70. I found that the resale price dropped quite a bit, which was a bit disappointing. When I decided to sell, I was offered $34K for my car, which was originally purchased for $49K. While I was a bit disappointed with this, I still enjoyed my time with the car. I did have some issues with customer service, but overall I had a positive experience. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you all before making a decision. Thanks for listening!

I experienced several issues with the engine, including stalling on the road and a strong gasoline smell. Despite my efforts to resolve these problems, they persisted and ultimately led me to terminate my lease contract after 36 months and pay the $4,000 penalty. While my experience may have been unfortunate, I have decided not to purchase a Genesis vehicle again.
