The Genesis G70 (Korean: 제네시스 G70) is a four-door compact executive car manufactured by the Korean luxury automaker Genesis, a luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group.
The G70 debuted on September 15, 2017, at a global launch event in Seoul's Olympic Park. It is Genesis Motor's third model and was designed to compete with compact executive and entry-level luxury saloons and sedans. The Genesis G70 was named the 2019 North American Car of the Year.
Overview
The Genesis G70 was under development for several years and was previewed by the Genesis New York Concept and shown at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The design was drafted by German auto designer Peter Schreyer, who is also responsible for designing the related Kia Stinger. Development of the G70 took place at Hyundai Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong, South Korea.
The exterior design shares cues from the other two Genesis models, the G80 and the G90. The grille features Genesis' corporate design, with functional air intakes along the bottom and side. The LED headlights operate with separate daytime running lights. The rear has an athletic stance, framed by LED taillights and dual exhausts.
The interior's center console is constructed out of soft-touch plastics, leather & genuine metal accents that are slightly angled toward the driver. The layout has three large knobs for the climate controls, an eight-inch touch screen, and a small electronic shifter. The interior appointments on the G70 include quilted leather seating surfaces, along with brushed aluminum and stainless steel trim.

- Summary: After speaking to the Genesis dealerships closest to my residence, it was made aware to me that the recall part in question, the High-Pressure Fuel Pump, will not be able to be repaired in a timely manner due to the parts not being in stock and that the dealerships I contacted would not be able to provide service for these repairs until November 2024 (If the part is in stock at the time). The dealerships were not able to confirm when the parts would be back in stock but, regardless, they would not be able to perform services for this recall until November 2024. I am aware of the safety issues that this part has if not remedied in a timely manner so, I would like to ensure a quick resolution (Buy Back) can be completed. My vehicle has started stalling at moments of operating the vehicle and has had poor engine performance creating moments of sluggish acceleration. I have also experienced some delays in my engine starting on occasion. I feel as though this jeopardizes the safety and well being of me and anyone else who rides in my vehicle as any more wear and damage to this part could result in total engine failure leaving me without an operational vehicle and, possibly, creating an accident mid drive. I have contacted the following dealerships who both expressed that the parts for this recall are on back order and could not confirm when they would be back in stock along with the fact that they would not be able to provide service on said recall until November of 2024. - Summary: On numerous occasions, while driving with the adaptive cruise control on, at highway speeds, and no other vehicles near me, the system emits several beeps, shows that I'm close to a vehicle ahead of me (there isn't one), and initiates hard braking for maybe a couple of seconds. It is VERY disconcerting, and I haven't been able to find a common denominator for this issue, except that it seems to only happen during daylight hours, on sunny days. Should this happen while another car is following me, this could certainly cause an accident.

- Summary: Hi, I’m an Automotive technician writing on behalf of my Girlfriend. She drives a 2019 Genesis G70 2.0T. Her High pressure fuel pump failed Diagnosed by me. Throwing the Code P0088 which is a too high pressure in fuel rail system code. She was driving to work in the morning about last week and was on the highway when the car completely lost power and would not move at all on the Highway she takes to work. Fortunately she was able to get the car limped home safely and no one was hurt but after this I contacted Genesis about the open recall they have for the high pressure fuel pump and asked if they could help us out even though there was no remedy available yet according to them and we had no help. Case manager just told us basically we have to pay out of pocket and that Genesis will not reimburse us for this inconvenience. The bulletin they released regarding the Recall states if the car has a check engine light for the high pressure fuel pump that it would be replaced at no cost to the owner regardless of Warranty situations. But they refuse to help. That’s why I am writing this because my Girlfriend needs a working vehicle to get to work and safely. Genesis needs to own up because I should not have to pay over 1000$ out of pocket because of a manufacturer mistake.

- Summary: From six to ten times over the past year, while at highway speeds, the adaptive cruise control has suddenly sounded warning chimes and momentarily engaged emergency braking, when there is no other vehicle or object ahead of me. I have had the system suddenly brake from over 70mph down to between 50 and 55mph, then begin to accelerate again. This has always happened in good daylight and clear weather. Fortunately, it has not happened when I had a vehicle close following me. Recently this happened three times on a three hour highway trip, and once again the following morning, also on a highway. On 11/07/23 I took it to the Genesis dealer, but the technician was unable to reproduce the problem.

Vehicle year: 2019
I've owned a MB C300, Infiniti G35, and most recently an Infiniti Q60, and I've enjoyed each of them in their own way. However, the amount of features packed into the g70 Sport for the price is truly astounding. It has almost everything you could want and more, including a HUD, heated front and rear seats, cooled front seats, folding mirrors, birds-eye view, leather seats, LSD, and adjustable suspension. The list goes on and on! Now, let's talk about the driving experience. In Sport mode, this car is a beast. With max torque at 1500 rpm, the power delivery is incredibly smooth, much smoother than the Q60. It handles like a dream, and the best part is that you can drive it as a commuter car or as a sports car without sacrificing much in either category. When I'm with my wife, I drive calmly, but when I want to have some fun, I can push the car to its limits. I can't say enough good things about this car. Update: I've now owned the car for two years and put 35k miles on it, and I still love it and highly recommend it.

It's not, but they did steal that company's chief designer so... coincidence? Anyways, bring your ego. The uninformed only see the winged badge and won't leave you alone. Bicyclists make rude hand gestures, strangers ask you how much money you make, and coworkers insist that the Siberian Ice Blue paint is in fact white and/or grey (it’s blue, fight me). However, in between all of them, it's surprising just how many people know the car and its accolades. Newcomer sport sedans always get glowing reviews and awards, even if they’re junk, but a five-minute test drive reveals that the G70 is actually competitive in its own right. The interior is as beautiful in person as in pictures. It’s a tactile wonderland, with soft leather and machined aluminum in places you would never look. The optional V6 is also a firecracker, with 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, AWD, and launch control, though so that was no surprise. What floored me was the NVH. Nothing creaks and nothing rattles, but somehow that doesn’t make it feel like a boat. A 3,800lb sedan has no right to corner like this and STILL have this nice of a ride! It does though, and for that reason, I’d skip the sport trim unless you’re going to the track. The standard springs are plenty stiff for on-road shenanigans. In this vein, I disagree with saying there’s no point in choosing the base G70 over a top-trim midsize sedan because it’s no faster. I traded up from a six-cylinder Legacy and, despite it being just as fast as the four-pot G70, the Genesis is a superior machine in every single way. Less is true of its underdog sports sedan competitors though. I WANTED to like the Cadillac and the Alfa Romeo, especially here in the sea of German luxury cars called New York, but come test-drive time the Genesis danced circles around them. It drives better, looks better, and has the best ownership perks by a mile. If you want a sports sedan that’s good AND different, this is really the only one you can have. Only a few problems:Bad mileage and a tiny tank mean lots of fuel stops. If you're over 6'3, you'll have to lose the sunroof or your head won't fit. Yes, they are sold at Hyundai stores, but if that means Genesis can sell them as cheap as they do, so be it. Overall, this G70 has turned into my dream-come-true car. I hope to keep it for the duration of the ten-year warranty or longer!

I was thoroughly impressed and decided to trade in my aging 3.8 Genesis sedan for a new G70 2.0T. The G70 has exceeded my already high expectations, delivering a sporty and nimble ride without sacrificing comfort. The 2.0 engine performs exceptionally well, especially in sport mode, and I still can't help but grin when I push the car to its limits. The car is just the right size for me, my wife, and our three children, providing enough space without feeling cramped. Although it's more comfortable with four passengers. Despite having the base model, the tech and safety features are on par with the class and meet all my requirements. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend the G70 to anyone looking for a sports sedan in this price range.

I can only think of three negative aspects to owning this car. Firstly, the infotainment screen rattles a little bit. Secondly, the dealer customer service is absolutely terrible. And thirdly, reportedly poor resale value. However, I must say that I am particularly impressed with the interior. Most everything sounds and feels locked down tight to minimize rattle sounds. The only exception is an occasional and subtle rattle that comes from the infotainment screen when you accelerate from 0 mph. Although I hate rattles in a car cabin, this is very subtle and I can live with it. As for the rest of the car, it is exceptional! I have had the 2.0T Advanced (base trim) since November 2019 and the car continues to drive and handle fantastically. The 4-cyl engine delivers plenty of power and gets you to desired highway speeds very quickly. I have no complaints about the rest of the car and, I admit the complaint about the infotainment screen rattle is a very small detail. Regarding the dealer service, it is important to keep in mind that it is a Hyundai dealer. You (and your car) will be attended to by the same staff that tends to tons of Hyundai’s with MSRP’s that are half that (or less than half) of your Genesis. There are downsides to this. My experiences with two local “Genesis” dealers (Roswell, GA and Duluth, GA Hyundai dealerships) have been very slow response times to your inquiries (if you even get a response at all) and a lack of knowledge about the car itself by the service departments. However, it is worth noting that Genesis’ call center is very knowledgeable and will help you obtain whatever you need. In my case, they forwarded my complaints to the dealership itself and forced them to do better. You may encounter some struggles on the customer service side while owning this car, but it is worth it. Lastly, it is worth noting that according to some people on the internet, the resale value may not be so great. However, since it is a new brand, it is understandable that there may be some uncertainty. Overall, I highly recommend this car!For anyone wondering, I own the car (not leasing), but I hope to sell it or trade it in for the new g80 in the future. Overall, it's an excellent car and I have no regrets here.

I've had my G70 for about 1200 KMs (approximately 1000 miles) - 3 weeks. The car feels solid and taut, handles very well and although you feel every imperfection in the road it is never harsh. The interior is designed for both functionality and style. There are so many features and design details that make everything driver-oriented, accessible and the materials are of excellent quality. The technology is excellent, works well and can be easily turned on/off with physical buttons (thank you Genesis!). The overall luxury sports sedan experience is excellent and you combine that with a price that is more than competitive with the likes of Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, etc. and you can see why this vehicle makes so much sense. Of course, no vehicle is perfect, so here are some cons to consider. As you probably know by now, this vehicle is small, therefore if you regularly shuttle more than 1 person around, I would make sure you are okay with the tight dimensions (same with the trunk space). Also, fuel economy is not great if you do mostly city driving like I do (I average about 20 mpg in the city with the AWD model). On a long-distance highway trip a few weeks ago, I got 36 MPG after a two-hour drive. Finally, I noticed a small rattle coming from the touchscreen display on hot days which I confirmed creaks when touched - this should be improved. I strongly recommend you check out the G70!

I will break down this review into two parts: the car and the dealership experience. Firstly, the car is great and appears solid, competing with the likes of Lexus, BMW, Audi, and more. My only complaint is that the Infotainment system is directly from an everyday Hyundai. This is not necessarily a bad thing in a 20k car, but it is not ideal in a 50k car. Genesis is trying hard to be a stand-alone brand like Lexus is to Toyota, but they may struggle to achieve this while selling and servicing through Hyundai dealers. Unfortunately, I had a bad buying experience which has left a sour taste in my mouth for what should have been a great car. Buying a premium brand and premium car should come with a premium dealership experience, but this was not the case. If you are looking for all three, I suggest you look elsewhere. Update: I traded in the car as I couldn't handle Genesis Consumer Affairs. The dealerships have all the power, and I have tried working with five different Hyundai dealers. If you want to make an appointment or get a call back, I suggest you drop in and do it in person. Also, don't let the selling dealer sell you on loaner cars as those are like finding gold in a silver mine. The car is nice, but you are taking a complete gamble if you need manufacturer support, warranty work, or service.

I've owned my car for three years as of September 20th. Unfortunately, my 3.3 all-wheel-drive 2019 has had some issues and has spent a total of five months in the shop for warranty work. The dealerships in Charlotte have not been the best, as they have sent me to other dealerships and their workmanship has been subpar. During one instance, I even drove three hours with nuts and bolts loose underneath my car and a loose turbo, even after the GM looked over my car in Charlotte. I would advise against going to Modern Hyundai. Recently, I had a new transmission put in my vehicle, and after driving it for only an hour and 40 minutes, I needed new struts. While Genesis hasn't been able to offer me an extended warranty, they did provide me with a $500 gift card and a $300 gift card. I take my car in for regular maintenance, so it's not due to owner neglect. Despite these issues, I still love my car. However, the service and customer relations have been lacking, especially for a car that is advertised to come with a loaner car. It's important to note that these cars are known for brake and rotor issues, as well as seat peeling, which unfortunately have no fix at the moment.

I recently purchased a 2023 G70 with only 4000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have experienced some quality issues with the car, which is frustrating as I am used to the high quality of Lexus vehicles. However, I have found the customer service at Genesis to be lacking in comparison to the white glove treatment I have received at Lexus. While I was initially drawn to the G70 for its price point and sleek design, I am now regretting my decision and will be returning to Lexus. For those seeking the best quality and top-notch customer service, I highly recommend choosing a Lexus over a Genesis. The price difference is simply not worth it. If quality is not your top priority, then perhaps consider one of the German car brands.
