Genesis G70 problems

The Genesis G70 (Korean: 제네시스 G70) is a four-door compact executive car manufactured by the Korean luxury automaker Genesis, a luxury division of Hyundai Motor Group.
The G70 debuted on September 15, 2017, at a global launch event in Seoul's Olympic Park. It is Genesis Motor's third model and was designed to compete with compact executive and entry-level luxury saloons and sedans. The Genesis G70 was named the 2019 North American Car of the Year.
Overview
The Genesis G70 was under development for several years and was previewed by the Genesis New York Concept and shown at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The design was drafted by German auto designer Peter Schreyer, who is also responsible for designing the related Kia Stinger. Development of the G70 took place at Hyundai Namyang R&D Center in Hwaseong, South Korea.
The exterior design shares cues from the other two Genesis models, the G80 and the G90. The grille features Genesis' corporate design, with functional air intakes along the bottom and side. The LED headlights operate with separate daytime running lights. The rear has an athletic stance, framed by LED taillights and dual exhausts.
The interior's center console is constructed out of soft-touch plastics, leather & genuine metal accents that are slightly angled toward the driver. The layout has three large knobs for the climate controls, an eight-inch touch screen, and a small electronic shifter. The interior appointments on the G70 include quilted leather seating surfaces, along with brushed aluminum and stainless steel trim.

Common Genesis G70 problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Genesis G70, common problems with this car include:
- Transmission Problems: One significant concern is the transmission getting stuck in one gear, not shifting, or even getting stuck in park, leading to potential safety hazards if the car stops suddenly. Some owners have experienced the transmission failing while driving, causing the car to stall.
- Forward Collision Warning System: Early models of the Genesis G70 had issues with the forward collision warning system, causing the car to accelerate suddenly towards nearby vehicles. While Genesis addressed this problem in newer models, it was prevalent in 2019 models.
- ABS Recall: Some G70 models experienced malfunctions with the anti-lock brakes, triggering a check engine light and potentially leading to loss of control during hard braking, especially on slippery surfaces. Fortunately, NHTSA issued a recall for this problem, allowing for free repairs by swapping the ABS module fuse.
- Fitment and Panel Gaps: Owners have reported poor fitment and excessive panel gaps on the exterior of the G70, making it challenging to keep clean and potentially causing issues down the road. This includes door seams that get dirty easily due to poor drainage, which may lead to further problems.
- Dealership Experience: Some owners have highlighted the need for improvement in the dealership experience, especially when compared to rival luxury automakers. This aspect can impact how effectively issues are addressed and resolved.
- Paint and Clear Coat Quality: Few reports have mentioned issues with poor quality paint and clear coat that may not hold up well over time, potentially leading to chipping similar to the Kia Stinger.
These problems highlight various concerns that Genesis G70 owners have faced, ranging from safety issues related to electrical and transmission problems to issues with fitment, dealership experiences, and paint quality.

- Summary: After speaking to the Genesis dealerships closest to my residence, it was made aware to me that the recall part in question, the High-Pressure Fuel Pump, will not be able to be repaired in a timely manner due to the parts not being in stock and that the dealerships I contacted would not be able to provide service for these repairs until November 2024 (If the part is in stock at the time). The dealerships were not able to confirm when the parts would be back in stock but, regardless, they would not be able to perform services for this recall until November 2024. I am aware of the safety issues that this part has if not remedied in a timely manner so, I would like to ensure a quick resolution (Buy Back) can be completed. My vehicle has started stalling at moments of operating the vehicle and has had poor engine performance creating moments of sluggish acceleration. I have also experienced some delays in my engine starting on occasion. I feel as though this jeopardizes the safety and well being of me and anyone else who rides in my vehicle as any more wear and damage to this part could result in total engine failure leaving me without an operational vehicle and, possibly, creating an accident mid drive. I have contacted the following dealerships who both expressed that the parts for this recall are on back order and could not confirm when they would be back in stock along with the fact that they would not be able to provide service on said recall until November of 2024. Genesis G70 2019
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-18
- VIN: KMTG34LE3KU
- Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On numerous occasions, while driving with the adaptive cruise control on, at highway speeds, and no other vehicles near me, the system emits several beeps, shows that I'm close to a vehicle ahead of me (there isn't one), and initiates hard braking for maybe a couple of seconds. It is VERY disconcerting, and I haven't been able to find a common denominator for this issue, except that it seems to only happen during daylight hours, on sunny days. Should this happen while another car is following me, this could certainly cause an accident.

- VIN: KMTG34LA6KU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Hi, I’m an Automotive technician writing on behalf of my Girlfriend. She drives a 2019 Genesis G70 2.0T. Her High pressure fuel pump failed Diagnosed by me. Throwing the Code P0088 which is a too high pressure in fuel rail system code. She was driving to work in the morning about last week and was on the highway when the car completely lost power and would not move at all on the Highway she takes to work. Fortunately she was able to get the car limped home safely and no one was hurt but after this I contacted Genesis about the open recall they have for the high pressure fuel pump and asked if they could help us out even though there was no remedy available yet according to them and we had no help. Case manager just told us basically we have to pay out of pocket and that Genesis will not reimburse us for this inconvenience. The bulletin they released regarding the Recall states if the car has a check engine light for the high pressure fuel pump that it would be replaced at no cost to the owner regardless of Warranty situations. But they refuse to help. That’s why I am writing this because my Girlfriend needs a working vehicle to get to work and safely. Genesis needs to own up because I should not have to pay over 1000$ out of pocket because of a manufacturer mistake.

Hey there! I just wanted to share my recent experience with the G70. I took it for a spin on the highway and around the city, and I have to say, I was really impressed! The features on the window sticker and the drive-out price were great, and my sales person was super helpful in getting me behind the wheel as soon as possible. Back in 2020, I had my eye on the G70, but ended up going with the Accord 2.0 for practicality reasons. However, for our second car, the G70 with advanced package and RWD was the perfect fit. The exterior looks even better after the refresh, and the dash is just stunning. Plus, I was relieved to find that my golf bag fit perfectly in the trunk! I've driven both MB and Audi between '06 and '20, and while I loved them both, the G70's price/performance ratio is unbeatable. Thanks for listening to my story!

There are many positive reviews about this car online, but I will focus on some areas that could be improved. The 3.3T engine is powerful, but there is noticeable turbo lag when pressing the gas pedal. The climate control information is displayed on the main screen, which can be inconvenient when starting the car. Additionally, the garage opener button is located next to the SOS button, which can be confusing in the dark. The transmission up-shifts a little too early, which can result in more noise and less fuel efficiency. The brakes produce a lot of dust, which requires frequent cleaning of the wheels. The internal door handle is located far from the driver's seat, which can be uncomfortable for some people. Finally, it would be helpful if unlocking the trunk also unlocked the doors. These are minor issues that I hope Genesis will address in the future. On a positive note, the rotating knob is a convenient way to navigate menus while driving, and the 3.3T engine is impressive.

I've owned several German sedans in the past, including BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, all of which were performance versions. However, after test driving the Genesis G70, I can confidently say that it outperforms its competitors in several significant categories, such as engine/transmission performance, features and amenities, and value. In fact, the Genesis costs over $200 less per month on a lease than a fully equipped BMW 435. Even when compared to a fully equipped Mercedes, BMW, or Audi, the Genesis still offers more features. Plus, it's a blast to drive! The car gets an impressive 29mpg on the highway at a steady 80MPH, and the turbo 3.3 liter 6 cylinder engine is capable of dropping mpg down to 18 when you lay into the turbo around town. The performance mode is also entertaining, with seat boosters that tighten, a red dash, and more aggressive shift points. Launch control is even included for some hooliganism. The diamond pattern stitching on the seating is also quite stylish. While some people may find the tight back seat and small trunk to be a shortcoming, I don't mind since I mostly drive alone. The Genesis has made me overcome my addiction to German engineering. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the concierge service and zero cost maintenance. How cool is that?

I really enjoyed test-driving the 2022 3.3L Genesis G70 Sport Prestige! The car's stunning sport-mode acceleration and superb sports sedan handling made it an easy choice for me to trade in my BMW 330is. The G70 is not only fast, but it also has a grip on the road that is as good or better than its sports sedan contemporaries. The Havana Red color is really cool looking and turns heads wherever I go. The G70 Sport Prestige has many pros, including comfortable front seats, lots of cool technology, and excellent climate control. The only cons I found were mediocre fuel economy, a small fuel tank, and a tight back seat. However, the G70 offers great bang-for-the-buck high-end luxury and performance compared to other luxury car brands like BMW, MBZ, Acura, Infinity, and Audi. I have no regrets spending my money on the Genesis.

I've driven quite a few cars in my time. I've owned a Genesis Coupe 2.0T, a G37, and a Mini Cooper S. Before purchasing this car, I drove a 330i, a Kia Stinger, and an MB C300. However, none of them made me feel the way this car does. The handling is fantastic, the 0-60 acceleration is impressive, and my favorite thing is when random people compliment how amazing it looks. While the Kia Stinger is similar to this car, the freebies you get from Genesis are unmatched. With 3 years of valet service, 3 years of connect service (including remote start from your phone), and the best warranty in the car industry, it's hard to beat.

I purchased a brand new 2020 Genesis G70, but soon noticed several issues with the car. The front passenger side tire made a loud clunking noise when making left turns, the driver side window made an awful clicking sound when going up or down, the plastic part next to the driver side window would pop in and out when closing the door, and the audio would randomly turn on when driving on bumpy roads. Despite being told by technicians at two different Blue Hands centers and a Hyundai Service Center that nothing was wrong with the car, I persisted in seeking a solution. After three months, a technician from the high tech division discovered that the engine mounts were defective, causing the noise. It was frustrating to have to deal with this issue for so long, but I am glad that it was finally resolved. Driving the car with bad engine mounts for 3 months has caused significant damage to the car. As a customer who paid full price for a brand new car, I expected to receive a reliable and trustworthy vehicle. However, the numerous issues I have experienced have shattered my confidence in the car. If I had known that I would receive a defective car, I would have opted for a used car instead and saved a lot of money. It is essential for customers to trust their new cars, and unfortunately, I cannot say that I do. Despite some adjustments made to the driver side window, the car still rattles when driving on bumpy roads.

I've owned my car for three years as of September 20th. Unfortunately, my 3.3 all-wheel-drive 2019 has had some issues and has spent a total of five months in the shop for warranty work. The dealerships in Charlotte have not been the best, as they have sent me to other dealerships and their workmanship has been subpar. During one instance, I even drove three hours with nuts and bolts loose underneath my car and a loose turbo, even after the GM looked over my car in Charlotte. I would advise against going to Modern Hyundai. Recently, I had a new transmission put in my vehicle, and after driving it for only an hour and 40 minutes, I needed new struts. While Genesis hasn't been able to offer me an extended warranty, they did provide me with a $500 gift card and a $300 gift card. I take my car in for regular maintenance, so it's not due to owner neglect. Despite these issues, I still love my car. However, the service and customer relations have been lacking, especially for a car that is advertised to come with a loaner car. It's important to note that these cars are known for brake and rotor issues, as well as seat peeling, which unfortunately have no fix at the moment.

Overall, your performance has been great! However, I noticed that there are some issues with the bronze and chrome finishes on my car. Unfortunately, the dealership will not replace the defective chrome on the windows or the defective bronze on the grill. I am disappointed with this outcome, but I appreciate your attention to this matter.

It was frustrating to have to deal with these issues, but I am glad that the problem was finally resolved.Driving the car with bad engine mounts for 3 months has caused significant damage to the car.

This is a fantastic car! The ride is unbelievable and the quality finish is flawless. Don't let the price be the only factor in your decision-making process. While it may only be $3500 less than a similarly equipped Audi A4, it exceeds all expectations of what a sport sedan should be. The only downside is that you will be purchasing from a Hyundai dealership, but don't let that discourage you. Although, it's important to note that some salesmen may treat you as if you're buying a $15,000 Accent with poor credit. If you can look past that, you'll be very satisfied with the car itself. However, I do recommend finding a reliable service department for maintenance and repairs. In my experience, the service department at Hyundai refused to look into a problem with alignment, even after paying for it twice. Instead, I went to a private mechanic in Roswell Georgia called Five Brothers, and they fixed the alignment to perfection in about half an hour. Until Genesis gets its own dealerships and service departments, I recommend finding a reliable mechanic for any issues that may arise. Unfortunately, I experienced engine misfiring at only 25,000 miles, which was a first for me after owning between 12 to 15 different cars. Although the car was still under warranty, it was a hassle to take it to the dealership and hope that they would actually fix the problem. As a result, I traded it in for a 22 Camry V6. Despite these issues, I still highly recommend this car for its fantastic ride and quality finish.
