Common 1999 Ford Taurus problems
The 1999 Ford Taurus is known for several common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from minor inconveniences to significant mechanical problems that can affect the car's reliability and performance.
One of the most common problems reported by 1999 Ford Taurus owners is a cracked windshield. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as debris on the road, extreme temperature changes, or even manufacturing defects. While a cracked windshield may not seem like a significant problem, it can lead to more severe issues if left unattended. For instance, a cracked windshield can compromise the structural integrity of the car, making it more susceptible to damage in the event of an accident.
Another common problem reported by 1999 Ford Taurus owners is gasket leaks. The car's gaskets are responsible for sealing various components, such as the engine and transmission, to prevent leaks. However, over time, these gaskets can wear out or become damaged, leading to leaks. Gasket leaks can cause various problems, such as reduced engine performance, decreased fuel efficiency, and even engine failure in severe cases.
Engine problems are also common in the 1999 Ford Taurus. This issue can cause the engine to overheat and require frequent coolant top-ups.
Transmission failure is another common problem reported by 1999 Ford Taurus owners. This issue can be caused by various factors, such as low transmission fluid levels, contaminated fluids due to poor maintenance, internal wear and tear of transmission parts, and worn clutches. Transmission failure can cause various problems, such as difficulty accelerating, engaging in gears, or even complete transmission failure, which can be costly to repair.
In addition to these common problems, 1999 Ford Taurus owners have reported various other issues, such as faulty camshaft position sensor magnets, which can cause longer crank times and even transmission failure.
In conclusion, while the 1999 Ford Taurus is generally considered a reliable midsize car, it is not without its common problems. These issues can range from minor inconveniences, such as a cracked windshield, to more significant mechanical problems, such as engine and transmission failure. Therefore, it is essential to keep an eye out for these common problems and address them promptly to ensure the car's longevity and reliability.

I'm glad to hear that your Wagon has been very reliable over the past 92,000 miles! It's great that your maintenance costs have been limited to brakes, rotors, tires (only once), and a serpentine belt. I would recommend keeping an eye on your ball joints as they are showing some wear, but overall it sounds like your car has held up well.
-
You've got a lot of car for the money spent! It has good power and is easy to drive and comfortable. Although there are some little rattles that bother you when going over bumpy roads, you'll love the fold down seat and trunk size. I recommend buying an extended warranty just in case. Your car has everything on it!
-
My first car has been with me for 6 months and it has been performing exceptionally well. Recently, I was rear-ended by a Corolla at a speed of 25-30 mph, but my Taurus held up fantastically and only sustained bumper damage. The Corolla, on the other hand, was totaled. The car has ample space for passengers and I have driven it for about 5,000 miles so far without any issues. Although it is pretty good with gas, there is room for improvement.
-
This has been a very good car and it was a pleasure to drive. I had no mechanical problems and it was very cheap to operate.
-
I recently purchased a 99' SE with only 28,000 miles on it, and I couldn't be happier! It came with all the options I wanted, including an electric moonroof, leather seats, keyless entry, auto lights, auto a/c, and security. The Duratec engine is truly impressive, especially when overtaking, and it has a really pleasant engine note. The smaller Vulcan engine is adequate, but not as impressive as the Duratec. The transmission could be a bit smarter at times, but overall it's a great car. The build quality is fantastic, with no rattles or other issues. There is some road and wind noise at highway speeds, but that's to be expected in a car at this price point. The seats are comfortable and provide good support, making for a really enjoyable driving experience.

Although I have had a difficult experience with my current vehicle, I am confident in my decision to start shopping for a new one. I have had to replace several parts, including the hub and bearings three times, the air conditioning, the heater core, the oil pan, the water pump, the engine gaskets, and the transmission. Despite these challenges, I have learned a lot about car maintenance and feel more knowledgeable about what to look for in my next vehicle. While I may not choose to purchase a FORD again, I am excited to explore other options and find a reliable mode of transportation.

undefinedThey have it buried under the engine, so you have to take off the right front wheel, strut, and caliper to get to it. It's not the easiest car to work on, but it's certainly built tougher than today's cars. Even with 220k miles on the clock, the transmission still functions well, even with no fluid.

My car has been in the shop more often than on the road. Unfortunately, over the last three years, I have spent more on repairs than on paying off the principle of my loan. The transmission failed at 39500 miles, which was within the 36000 mile warranty. I have also had to get the rotors resurfaced twice, the brakes replaced three times (the first time at 22000 miles), the rack and pinion steering replaced, and the fuel injectors repaired due to emissions problems. In my opinion, it would be best to consider buying a different car. I have had nothing but problems with this one. It's a great car if you enjoy driving a rental while yours is in the shop, or if you have an uncontrollable urge to throw money away.

I purchased this car brand new with high hopes of getting a good deal. Unfortunately, after only a few weeks, the automatic transmission began slipping and jerking. Despite taking it to the Ford dealership, the problem could not be identified. At 36,000 miles, the brakes began to malfunction. Now, at 41,000 miles, the car is experiencing multiple oil leaks and brake issues. When I asked the dealer about the leaks, they informed me that it is a common issue with Taurus models over 40,000 miles. I am currently spending $1,400 to fix the oil leak. While I regret my decision to purchase this car, I hope others can learn from my experience and avoid the Ford Taurus. It is important to note that the car has only been driven on freeways and easy roads.

She was a good first car, and although we had a lot of problems with her, I miss her. Unfortunately, I won't be getting a Taurus again. The air conditioning would go, we'd recharge it, and it would go again. The battery went, and numerous other issues arose. She also wasn't too great on gas and flew through it pretty quickly. Finally, we lost her when the oil tank was leaking and the engine overheated and blew.
