The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.

The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.

From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.

Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

When power is sent to components that shouldn’t be charged when your engine is shut off, a parasitic drain occurs. It can be a result of bad wiring, defective fuses, or improper battery installation.
  • Intake Manifold Failure: The most common failure I know of on 2000 4.6 motors is the intake manifold is plastic and it has an antifreeze channel in the front by the thermostat. If the manifold cracks, it will leak coolant into the intake, causing a rough idle, stalling, and a check engine light.

    I bought this car with only 20k miles on it and drove it for five years before selling it with 58k miles. Throughout my ownership, I only experienced one mechanical issue which cost me around $300 to fix. I upgraded the exhaust to a Flowmaster which gave the car a great sound compared to the weak stock exhaust. The V8 engine is powerful and can run well over 100mph. The interior and exterior held up very well and still looked new when I sold it. However, I did find the driver's seat position uncomfortable, as it felt like I was sitting in a beach chair on the ground.

    I bought my Mustang in Florida about two years ago and then moved back up north. It has been a wonderfully reliable car, taking me to and from Florida without any issues. The only downside is that the driver's seat is quite uncomfortable during long trips and the gas mileage is poor. Recently, I have been experiencing some trouble with the convertible top near the window leaking, resulting in wet floors. I believe this is due to the Florida sun drying out the top over the five years it was not garage kept. Despite this, I still receive tons of compliments on my car!

    My mom got this Mustang back in 2003 for a really good deal. It's a one-of-a-kind car with a black exterior, white top, and white leather interior. Nowadays, I'm the one who drives it and I have to say, it's a lot of fun. While it's not great at low RPMs, once you get it up there, it really takes off. We've had some issues with the transmission and power window control sinking into the door, and the fog lights are a constant problem. The back seat is pretty much non-existent and the front seats aren't very comfortable, but the stereo is awesome. Overall, though, this car has proven to be quite reliable.

    I bought this car for my wife as her first car on Valentine's Day! It's a beautiful sunburst gold metallic clearcoat. The car has a K&N CAI and Flowmaster Dual exhaust, and the rear end gear has been changed. It's a solid car that goes like a rocket, is reliable, and a real head-turner. I really liked it when my wife showed up in her '79 Camaro show car with $15,000 in the motor while he was showboating with his wife. He could barely keep up, and we were just toying with him. Ford rocks! I just bought a new Supercrew, and it's a great truck. I got rid of my Dakota, don't buy one. In my opinion, Chrysler is not the best. Chevy is okay, but it just needs more power. Peace!

    I can tell you that owning a Mustang has been a dream of mine since I was a child. Finally, that dream has come true and I couldn't be happier with my 2000 silver Mustang convertible with a black top. It's simply amazing, from its performance to its looks. In my opinion, the body style of the Mustang from '99-04 is one of the best since the Mustangs of 1964 1/2-67. Although I wish the gas mileage was a little better, I can't complain because I'm finally driving a Mustang!

    I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share a little bit about my Mustang. I received it as a gift for Mother's Day back in 2000, and it's been a dream to drive ever since. The car is a beautiful laser red with a gold stripping kit, and it only has 21,300 miles on it since it's not driven in the winter unless it's absolutely necessary. Recently, I put new tires on it, and it feels like a brand new car! During the summer, I love to put the top down, place my black boot on, and ride away. I would highly recommend the convertible to anyone because it's sporty, classy, and a wonderful ride with plenty of speed!
