2016 Ford Focus rs problems

The Ford Focus is a compact car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1999. It was created under Alexander Trotman's Ford 2000 plan, which aimed to globalize model development and sell one compact vehicle worldwide. The original Focus was primarily designed by Ford of Europe's German and British teams. Production of the fourth generation Focus began in 2018 in Germany and China.

Naming

The decision to name the new car the "Ford Focus" was made in early 1998, as Ford's senior management had been planning to keep the "Escort" nameplate for its new generation of small family cars. A last-minute problem arose in July 1998 when a Cologne court, responding to a case brought by the publisher Burda, ordered Ford to avoid the name "Focus" for the cars in the German market since the name was already taken by one of its magazines (Focus). This eleventh-hour dispute was resolved, however, and the car was launched with the name Focus.

First generation (C170; 1998)

Ford of Europe introduced the Focus in 1998 to the European market as a replacement for the Ford Escort. The Focus Mk 1 was awarded the 1999 European Car of the Year award. The project manager for the Ford Focus at Dunton was Rose Mary Farenden.

Ford of North America began marketing the Focus in September 1999 for the 2000 model year, with some changes from the European version. The car was launched as a three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, and five-door wagon; a five-door hatchback debuted in 2001.

In 2002, Ford launched its highest performance version of the Focus, called the Focus RS. It came with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Duratec RS engine, a Quaife ATB limited-slip differential, an AP Racing clutch, and a revolutionary design front suspension strut system called "Revo-knuckle"- as marketed by Ford, Sachs Racing dampers Brembo brakes, 18” O.Z Racing alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and a host of other performance changes, combined with a much more aggressive appearance, and was available only in Ford's Imperial blue. Tickford Engineering won the engineering contract for the research, development and to oversee production of the Mk 1 Focus RS. Tickford made substantial modifications to the base unit, with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered or completely redesigned. Despite the development being carried out in the United Kingdom, Ford produced the Focus RS in the Saarlouis plant in Germany between 2002 and 2003 making a limited run of 4501 cars only. This original Focus RS was only available in Europe; just under half (2147) of these were sold in the UK.

For decades, in the U.S., small cars like the Focus were seen as a tool to draw in younger buyers looking for a cheap basic transportation and to increase auto makers' fleet average fuel economies to meet U.S. federal standards. Ford was said not to be concerned about losing money on the Focus so the company could sell gas guzzlers for big profits. However, recent sales of new Focuses have been able to maintain lower or overall discounting incentive rates than many competing vehicles in its class. Many industry insiders view cars like the Focus as 'compliance cars' because of their role in helping to bring up the corporate fleet average fuel economy to meet current fuel-economy standards.

Common 2016 Ford Focus rs problems

Based on the information from the sources provided, here are the common problems with the Ford Focus RS 2016 model based on complaints from owners:

  • Build Quality Issues:
    • Some Focus RS owners have reported complaints about the build quality of the car, including loose seat rails for the driver's seat, HVAC system issues, and rattly interior components.
    • While the interior quality may not be top-notch due to cost considerations for performance, these issues can still be a concern for potential buyers.
  • Ride Quality:
    • Many owners have expressed dissatisfaction with the ride quality of the Focus RS, noting that the car is designed with performance in mind rather than comfort, resulting in a rougher ride especially on bumpy roads or during city driving.
    • It's important for buyers to understand that the Focus RS prioritizes performance over comfort, so expectations regarding ride quality need to align with the nature of the vehicle.
  • Cooling System Failures and Leaks:
    • The Focus RS engine has experienced cooling system failures and leaks leading to overheating issues, with some cases requiring engine replacements.
    • It's crucial for potential buyers to thoroughly inspect the mechanics and body of the car, especially checking for any signs of previous cooling system issues to avoid potential surprises post-purchase.
  • Shock Absorbers and Heating/Ventilation System Problems:
    • Owners have reported issues with the shock absorbers and the heating/ventilation system of the Focus RS, highlighting additional areas that may require attention or maintenance.
    • Ensuring that these components are in good condition and functioning properly is essential to avoid unexpected repair costs after buying a used Focus RS.

These common problems with the Ford Focus RS 2016 model should be carefully considered by potential buyers to make an informed decision and be prepared for any necessary maintenance or repairs.

What are common faults with Ford Focus RS?

Reported problems with the RS are few, and on the whole owners seem happy with their cars. However, there have been several incidents relating to a leaking head gasket on the engine. A plume of white smoke on start up is the telltale sign, and a few owners have even needed new engines.

What is the problem with the Ford Focus RS 2.3 engine?

The mechanical malfunction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost unit is linked to the head gasket, which fails to seal the engine block to the head correctly. Long term heat exposure warps the block preventing the head gasket from forming a watertight seal between the two engine components.

What is the most common problem with the 2016 Ford Focus?

What Common Problems Does the 2016 Ford Focus Have? Common problems found on the 2016 Ford Focus include the transmission shuddering, engine failures, as well as issues with the power steering system. Overall, these problems are more severe than in other compact cars, leading to expensive repair bills when parts fail.

Why did the Focus RS fail?

The issue centres on a specific hole in the Mustang's head gasket that shouldn't be there on the Focus equivalent. In conjunction with a small V-shape depression between the tops of the cylinder bores, it's allowing boiling coolant to stagnate and damage the cylinder head, hence why Ford is replacing those, too.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-12
  • VIN: 1FADP3F26GL
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: (UNKNOWN) I am [XXX] and don't know much about cars but I will explain my issue as detailed as I've experienced it. The issue started on or about two days ago, on [XXX]. The car drives and as I'm driving it, it stalls and/or gets stuck momentarily and then begins to drive again as usual. I've been close to being hit from behind and causing an accident because the cars behind me don't expect to stop so suddenly. I've been lucky so far to have not been crashed into. It did the stalling without warning sensors alerting a problem for two days. The car now does show a yellow sensor on the right side of the dashboard which looks to me like a motor of some sort, I'm not sure. Additionally, during these two past days while the car has been having the stall/stop issue... the car does not start as it used to. I put the key in the ignition and turn the key to start the car but it won't start or make any sound as if it's gonna start. I have to turn the key two or three times for the car to start and then it finally does. Since the issue started, I've had the necessity to use the car and have used it about three times but I've not had it checked yet because the weather has been very bad in my area with on and off thunderstorms which makes it not possible for me to drive. I have very poor eyesight, I can barely see from my right eye due to the retina being detached and I don't feel safe driving under these circumstances. Additionally, the car started to make a noise; coming from under the hood the last time I started it which subsided once I drove it. Please advise me of what is best for me to do. I'm [XXX] and I do for myself without help nor do I have relatives near me at the moment to drive myself as I do to get my groceries and meet my doctors appointments and such. Thank you. Positive 2016 Ford Focus rs car reviews

  1. Zander Prosacco 2024-08-18

I absolutely love this car and everything it offers up front, but I must admit that my opinion may be biased. If you're considering this car, be aware that the seats may take some getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to less supportive seats. The gas mileage is not the best, but that's to be expected when you're having fun in a hot hatch. One major highlight of this car is its resale value, which is particularly noteworthy given that Ford is no longer producing these cars in the states. All in all, if you're looking for a hot hatch, you likely already know what you want, and this car is definitely worth considering.

  2. Rashawn Boyle 2024-06-07

When I was there, I told the manager that I had an Edmunds certificate for a price on the car, and they honoured the price. Next thing I knew, I was driving it back home the next day, once I got approval on my loan!

  3. Darrin Jaskolski 2024-03-20

I'm adding to my original review, which still stands. I wanted to share that I added a Cobb tune for 93 octane and high flow air filter that improved performance, drivability and gas mileage. The launch control feature is amazing and makes you feel like a pro. If you're feeling adventurous, you can put the computer in drift mode and turn off the traction control completely to experience real drifting. Just make sure you find a safe and wet parking lot to play around with this option. I say wet because the Michelin Pilot Sport Two tires are so sticky on dry pavement that it's easier to drift on wet pavement. At $290/tire, they last a lot longer, allowing for more fun. The fun factor is off the charts! The RS delivers practicality and high performance in a neat package. With four doors and a hatchback with folding rear seats, it turns into a small van that can carry a ton of odd shaped items and luggage. It can outrun cars costing twice as much on the track and is a great daily driver. Gas mileage is very good overall, but premium fuel is required. Safety is outstanding with a great level of electronic nannies to keep the all-wheel drive under control at all times. Traction is incredible and braking is immediate and linear. The ride is a bit stiff even in standard mode, but personally, I don't mind it and no one has complained when riding along. The balance is perfect. The seats are comfortable, and I am 6'5
