Tickford Engineering won the engineering contract for the research, development and to oversee production of the Mk 1 Focus RS. Tickford made substantial modifications to the base unit, with up to 70% of the base components either updated, re-engineered or completely redesigned. Despite the development being carried out in the United Kingdom, Ford produced the Focus RS in the Saarlouis plant in Germany between 2002 and 2003 making a limited run of 4501 cars only. This original Focus RS was only available in Europe; just under half (2147) of these were sold in the UK.

I've been close to being hit from behind and causing an accident because the cars behind me don't expect to stop so suddenly. I've been lucky so far to have not been crashed into. It did the stalling without warning sensors alerting a problem for two days. The car now does show a yellow sensor on the right side of the dashboard which looks to me like a motor of some sort, I'm not sure. Additionally, during these two past days while the car has been having the stall/stop issue... the car does not start as it used to. I put the key in the ignition and turn the key to start the car but it won't start or make any sound as if it's gonna start. I have to turn the key two or three times for the car to start and then it finally does. Since the issue started, I've had the necessity to use the car and have used it about three times but I've not had it checked yet because the weather has been very bad in my area with on and off thunderstorms which makes it not possible for me to drive. I have very poor eyesight, I can barely see from my right eye due to the retina being detached and I don't feel safe driving under these circumstances. Additionally, the car started to make a noise; coming from under the hood the last time I started it which subsided once I drove it. Please advise me of what is best for me to do. I called Ford motor Company and they pass it off to try and push it off on the lemon law which will not work because it's not that type of failure we believe. Please check into this. The car was currently frozen in 2nd gear and was having a hard time starting. Ford was able to get the car started but the car would not move out of 2nd gear and was not able to be driven. Recommended service was a full clutch system replacement. Ford has had multiple cars recalled for the same issue but claimed the VIN was not included in the current recall.

I absolutely love this car and everything it offers up front, but I must admit that my opinion may be biased. If you're considering this car, be aware that the seats may take some getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to less supportive seats. The gas mileage is not the best, but that's to be expected when you're having fun in a hot hatch. One major highlight of this car is its resale value, which is particularly noteworthy given that Ford is no longer producing these cars in the states. All in all, if you're looking for a hot hatch, you likely already know what you want, and this car is definitely worth considering.

I'm adding to my original review, which still stands. I wanted to share that I added a Cobb tune for 93 octane and high flow air filter that improved performance, drivability and gas mileage. The launch control feature is amazing and makes you feel like a pro. If you're feeling adventurous, you can put the computer in drift mode and turn off the traction control completely to experience real drifting. Just make sure you find a safe and wet parking lot to play around with this option. I say wet because the Michelin Pilot Sport Two tires are so sticky on dry pavement that it's easier to drift on wet pavement. At $290/tire, they last a lot longer, allowing for more fun. The fun factor is off the charts! The RS delivers practicality and high performance in a neat package. With four doors and a hatchback with folding rear seats, it turns into a small van that can carry a ton of odd shaped items and luggage. It can outrun cars costing twice as much on the track and is a great daily driver. Gas mileage is very good overall, but premium fuel is required. Safety is outstanding with a great level of electronic nannies to keep the all-wheel drive under control at all times. Traction is incredible and braking is immediate and linear. The ride is a bit stiff even in standard mode, but personally, I don't mind it and no one has complained when riding along. The balance is perfect. The seats are comfortable, and I am 6'5
