The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Summary: on 6/7/24, while driving around the Baltimore beltway towing a 44' RV in rush-hour traffic a battery warning light appeared. Within 1 min, the vehicle dashboard information went out and the engine stalled. I immediately put the vehicle in neutral and was able to coast to the shoulder without advantage of turn signals on either the RV or truck as a result. Once there I popped the hood and was able to get out to open it, however, there was a fire and my fingers were singed. After opening the hood, I noticed a full engine fire. I yelled for my wife to get out ASAP. I was able to extinguish the fire (thanks to the RV extinguisher), however, a secondary fire started, and a Samaritan help extinguish that fire. A fire department truck appeared, and they cut the batter cable since it seemed to have started the fire. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership where it was purchased. The insurance agent stated a mechanic had informed him; they believe it was the battery that was the cause. All vehicle maintenance was conducted by the dealership due to warranty AND an extended vehicle maintenance plan purchased at the time of sale. Ford has failed to acknowledge any problems with the vehicle and refused to honor the warranty.

Summary: Trailer brake controller will randomly announce "trailer wiring fault" and lose all brakes. Brake power will momentarily show requested power then cut off. Trailer has been confirmed ok, works 100% on two other trucks, ground continuity is 100% via plug only, brake wiring and resistance all in spec for 3 Dexter 7000# axles (electric drum) Will randomly cut out after working for days. Usually when needed most. Dealer claims "cannot duplicate" had been to dealer 4x for it, to include a software update. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Concentration from what used to be GMs in house engineering school. (GMI/Kettering) To say I'm intimately familiar with how this should work is an understatement. Also, the manual slider control should just provide requested power to brakes, bypassing any BXM/TCM interlocks. In aviation, if I use a backup brake it bypasses antiskid, anything else. Towing a 21,000 pound trailer in the Mountains when this thing decides to not work is sketchy. It will eventually cause an accident given that it's a widespread issue known to people but magically no recall. If this was an Airbus 321 or Boeing 737 we'd have an Airworthiness Directive at a minimum.

Summary: I was towing my 5th wheel trailer on a highway and up an incline. Almost at the top of the hill a notification appeared on the dash screen stating, "low power mode". As I was on top of a hill, towing a trailer, on a highway, and with no available offramps, I coasted down the hill trying to find a place to pull off of the highway. At the bottom of the hill I heard a loud noise from the engine, noticed smoke in my rearview mirror, and lost all power to the vehicle including power steering. I managed to pull off to the side of the busy highway. I exited the vehicle and removed my kids from the car, moving them up a hill on the side of the highway as it was the safest place I could find. It was at that point I noticed flames coming from the right font front wheel well. I quickly opened my trailer, grabbed my fire extinguisher, and doused the flames. Had I not acted quickly the entire truck, trailer, and hillside would have caught fire. The vehicle is still at the dealership waiting on Ford Motor Company to approve the repairs. The vehicle has approximately 26,000 miles on it and is unmodified.

Summary: Getting this message “Trailer Left TurnLamps Fault Check Lamps”. This is issue is intermittent but it causes the trailer lights, turn signal, stop light and warning lights on the left side to be very very dim and not visible. The lights would be good when trailer is hooked up but it will go dim and not work properly on the road. Those driving behind would not be able to see turn light while moving lanes and possibly causing an accident scenario. Gone to two different dealers and they cannot recreate the issue with their equipment. Called Ford twice to report the issue and concerns. The trailer has been checked by the dealer and showed no issues when hooked up to an independent battery. Have changed the fuse twice but they were not burned out so it was not a fuse issue. Apparently there are no current recalls for my VIN.

Summary: The contact owned a 2022 Ford F-450. The contact stated that while her driver was driving at an undisclosed speed, her driver smelled a burning odor and noticed smoke at the hood of the vehicle. The contact then stated that the driver then stopped and exit the vehicle when the vehicle suddenly inflamed. No injuries were sustained. A fire department was notified however, the vehicle had burned. A fire report was filed. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions, she attempted to start the vehicle however, the engine failed to engage. The contact also stated that prior to the failure, while driving at undisclosed speeds the vehicle stalled without warning. The undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for the following week. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to contact her insurance company. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

Summary: Ford has a "Customer Satisfaction" program in place (21M05) because the tailgate of the F450 can unintentionally come down. These vehicles are designed for hauling and towing, not just driving around town. As such, when the tailgate comes down, the payload could fall out and cause an accident. Also, what is being towed could be significantly damaged. In my case, I tow a large, custom 5th wheel. If I turn with the tailgate down, it's going to create a significant amount of damage and cause debris to scatter on the roadway, creating a hazard for other vehicles. I am troubled that this problem is not a safety recall. Ford is only fixing the problem AFTER an incident has occurred.

Summary: 2022 F450 King Ranch will not recognize an electric over hydraulic brake system on the trailer. It will recognize it if you connect while running. Once you shut the engine off and turn it back on it disconnects and will not recognize the trailer until you get out and go back to the plug and unplug and plug it in again. The 2021 F450 will work with the trailer. The dealer tried hooking up (4) different 2022 F series and they all did the same thing. Have been emailing every email address I can get ahold of at ford. Field service engineer came out on 6/8 and he cannot figure out the issue. This truck was taken in after the brake controller recall on 4/18/22. First attempt updated software on 4/20/22. Supposed to fix. Still not fixed as of 6/13/22. Also had our 2021 Gator Trailer inspected for any issues. There were none. The fact that Hardy Ford hooked up 2022 F150, F250, F450 to the trailer and none of them would recognize and electric over hydraulic brake trailer system.

Summary: The truck came with Continental tires (Model: Conti Hybrid HD3) installed on all six tires (Dual rear wheels). The manufacture tire specification states that the tire is designed to only be installed on the Drive Axle (rear axle). I have been experiencing a steering issue (constant steering wheel correction). This seems to be caused by the tires reacting to any roadway surface anomaly (the tires seem to catch an edge which causes the vehicle to abruptly steer to one side or the other). I tow a 5th wheel RV and the abrupt steering change causes a sever lateral back and forth movement of the trailer when it occurs. This has caused the trailer to leave my traffic lane. I have ensured the air pressure is per the Ford vehicle specification. I am making arrangements to have the steering system inspected and have the alignment checked. I did contact Ford's customer service and asked if the installation of drive axle tires on the steering axle was their intention. The response from Ford's customer service was that the truck was produced with the same tires on all six wheels. I am concerned that the tire may be contributing to the steering issue I am having and may be indicative of a steering safety issue. This has been occurring since we purchased the vehicle on March 21, 2022. The vehicle had approximately 50 miles on it when it was purchased. The vehicle had approximately 1400 miles when we starting using it to tow our RV. The vehicle currently has approximately 4100 miles on it.

Summary: The trailer brakes fail after a random period of time. Though the trailer works fine with other controllers, the entire trailer was rewired with new brakes and a new 7-pin connector, the problem did not changed - there are no shorts, grounds, opens in the brake circuit, and the ground circuit is OK. There previously were and are no intermittent problems with the trailer. The trailer brakes will start off the trip working, but stop working at random times. I've often noticed that they'll fail shortly after sitting in traffic. After the failure, I remove and reinstall fuse #62 in the under hood fuse box, and the trailer brake operation will be restored for a while. Being aware of this problem, and the dealers being no help (this is a common topic on groups and forums), I regularly manually test trailer brake operation, especially before descending a hill, but sometimes even shortly after confirming proper operation, the trailer brakes will not work. After the failure, I will pull over, then again confirm that they're not working, then R&R the fuse without disturbing any other circuits or connectors, and the trailer brakes will resume operation. Turning the truck off and on does not fix the problem even temporarily. I experience this problem about every hundred miles or so of driving. The truck currently has about 2,500 miles, but the problem was noticed at about 1,100 miles during the first tow. I'd estimate I've experienced the trailer brake failure about seven times.

Summary: Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022-2023 Ford Super Duty F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 vehicles. The fasteners for the front wheel hub extender may be insufficiently tightened, which can result in the wheel and wheel extender detaching from the vehicle.
Consequence: Wheel detachment can result in a loss of vehicle control and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the repair has been performed. Dealers will inspect the front wheel hub extender retaining nuts. If the retaining nuts are loose, dealers will replace the wheel hub extender, retaining nuts, and hub assembly. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 7, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at -866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S59.

Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles equipped with third-row seating; and 2019-2023 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 SuperCab vehicles. The owner's manual does not include instructions for adjusting or removing certain head restraints. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 202, "Head Restraints."
Consequence: Without instructions, the head restraints may be improperly adjusted, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Remedy: Ford will mail the Owner's Manual addendums that describe how to adjust and remove the head restraints for the center seating positions, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 21, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C20.

Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F600, and 2023 E-Series vehicles. In addition, certain 2016 E-Series, 2017 and 2019 F-450, 2021 F-350, and 2021 Transit vehicles that received a reprinted label are also included in this recall. The Safety Certification Labels are missing the tire size, rim type, and tire pressure values for both the front and rear axles. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 110, "Tire Selection and Rim", and 120, "Wheels and Rims-Other Than Passenger Cars."
Consequence: Missing tire information could lead to an incorrect tire or rim being installed, or incorrect tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 F-150, Expedition, 2020-2022 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and 2020-2021 Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The windshield wiper arms may break, causing the windshield wipers to fail.
Consequence: Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace both front windshield wiper arms, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed on May 24, 2022.
