2004 Dodge Durango problems
The Dodge Durango is a mid-size/full-size SUV produced by Dodge starting with the 1998 model year. The first two generations were very similar in that both were based on the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram, both featured a body-on-frame construction and both were produced at the Newark Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware through the 2009 model year.
The third-generation Durango began with the 2011 model year. It is built on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, features unibody construction, and has been assembled at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan since late 2010.
Each generation had options for different engine sizes and power ratings, with different transmissions also. In 2009 a hybrid variant was introduced, but ended quickly with the second generation Durango. From 2007 to 2009 the Durango was available as the Chrysler Aspen from Chrysler. Over two million Durangos have been sold since it was introduced in 1998.

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I brought my vehicle to an Phoenix AZ dealership off of Black Canyon Highway or I-17 on Camelback for airbag safety recall and interior lighting recall and any others needed. When I dropped it off initially I parked on lot by the garage inc front of the rental car business directly in front. I exited my vehicle walking up to repair garage to make sure I could drive into it for recall repair. I walked back opened my driver's door and sat in the seat.(legally able to safely driver by entering through the driver's door) I drove it up there. Upon arriving after they provided the airbags recall, moved my dome light which was located on driver's door module that also has other functions,(moved to another module preventing an interior fire on long trips which I was moving for a job to Audubon MN that next few days) and I was unable to enter the vehicle by my driver's door. I had to physically crawl in the passengers side of car over the middle area and drink holders to squeeze my legs under the steering wheel. They informed me it was like that. I requested the video from rental employee mgr or person in charge and he stated "it would be like finding a needle in the haystack". It happened that I also sat for over 3 hours till close there, had a mgr request 2 inspections from his men, filed a complaint, talked with several reps and all before I left the lot. Also I had a tire light on my dash, and others that I find out are all connected to the module the dome light used to be attached to. While leaving my door locks were going up and down like they were a possessed pissed of psycho spirit , my steering wheel didn't lock anymore, and I decided to wash my car in a CAR WASH which almost got me a rear end incident from the car behind me because my 2004 DODGE DURANGO SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. I was scared and my heart dropped down through me bottom like being pulled over for a ticket by the police would. So it decided to rain.OH MY GOSH. If MN wasn't a rainy place I wouldn't be SO

- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

The Durango Limited is a fantastic vehicle! It's quiet, powerful (yes, it has a Hemi), and incredibly nimble. Our Limited model comes fully loaded with leather seats, a sunroof, a DVD player, and a 380-watt sound system. We absolutely love the features, power, and handling. The ride quality is outstanding, and even when accelerating, we can barely hear the engine. Plus, there's plenty of room inside! Despite being an SUV, it doesn't feel like one when driving, and it's easy to park - even in tight spots where inconsiderate drivers might cause dings.

The 5.7L engine in my 2004 Durango with 98,000 miles has failed (bent or broken rod) upon startup and requires replacement at a cost of approximately $7000. This issue is well-documented and known to be a common problem with this engine. Despite my previous loyalty to Dodge, this experience has left me hesitant to consider purchasing another Dodge vehicle in the future.

I traded in my 2000 Durango, which I was very pleased with, after test driving the 2004. Dodge has dramatically improved the ride quality, handling and braking. Although it may appear insignificant to some, entry into the third row seat is much easier. On my first camping trip, fully loaded with gear and 4 passengers, I averaged over 20 miles per gallon at a steady 74mph. Not bad for a vehicle of this size. City mileage is consistent with EPA estimates. Since it's new, it's hard to gauge reliability. I rated it high as I did not stick a cent into the 2000 vehicle that was worked hard.

Congratulations on your new purchase! It's great to hear that you found a Durango Limited with all the bells and whistles for under $7000. With 137000 miles, it sounds like you got a great deal. I'm glad to hear that you stuck to your guns and chose the car that you wanted, even though your husband wanted another Ford. It's important to choose the car that's right for you, and it sounds like you made the perfect choice. The dealership fixing all the recalls before you took it home is a great sign that they care about their customers. It's also great to hear that you found a small used ero lite camping trailer and needed an SUV to pull it. The former owner taking good care of it is a huge plus. The oversized tires make it feel like you're climbing into a truck, which is a great feeling. Safety is always a top priority, especially when you have grandkids and elderly parents riding with you. It sounds like you've had a lot of different cars over the years, but this Durango is a dream come true for you. I hope you have an amazing time taking it and your trailer to Yellowstone next spring for your 30th anniversary!

This is great! You'll love having all the different styles.

Hey there! I have a 04 Dodge Durango 5.7 SLT 8 cylinder. Yes, it burns a lot of gas, but I absolutely love my truck! Unfortunately, they tend to rot pretty quickly. My main issue is that I had to replace the engine just 2 years ago, which cost me over $2,500, and now I need another one. It's pretty frustrating, especially since the warranties don't last more than 6 months to a year. Most people keep telling me to just junk my truck, but I'm still not sure if it's worth it. *shaking my head*

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with this vehicle. While I did encounter some issues with the electrical system, throttle, and transmission, my dealer was able to address them over time. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to use the lemon law due to the circumstances of my purchase. Just a heads up to anyone considering this vehicle to take a close look before making a decision. Thanks for listening!

I have experienced significant issues with my 2004 Durango, despite having had a positive experience with the 2000 model. The passenger comfort has improved, but unfortunately, the vehicle has been plagued with problems. I had to replace the front differential at only 7000 miles, and recently had to have the battery cable recall work done due to intermittent starting issues. It is disappointing to see the decline in quality from the previous, highly reliable Durango model. I am currently in discussions with the dealer to explore options for returning the vehicle and potentially acquiring my previous 2000 model.

This vehicle has been a disappointment. The windows cannot be opened with others in the car due to the intense pressure and noise. Additionally, there is a persistent issue with a loud noise that sounds like a helicopter hovering. For a car priced at $36000, I expected better quality. It is concerning that this issue has been reported for at least 5 years, as seen in reviews. Dodge should take responsibility for this issue and work towards a solution.
