2005 Ford Escape problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

- VIN: 1FMCU93125K
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Recently purchased from used car dealer, new battery was installed, no trouble up to this point. Began checking usual problems, fuel delivery, crank pos.sensor, cam pos sensor, have no spark. Upon further research this appears to be faulty coils, spark plugs and pcm from factory but no recall has been employed. Possibility of collision during u-turn very likely. Loss of power to all systems could cause extreme risk to life at higher speeds. Ford Motor Company is aware of this problem, with the high number of similar problems in the NHTSA data base it is impossible for them not to know. The NHTSA should force Ford to fix this. If you make a product that can be dangerous if faulty, you are responsible to the public to do the right thing. I think that if the governmental agency responsible for traffic safety won't do their job then a class action lawsuit should be started. I bet I could find a good lawyer in the SF Bay area.

- VIN: 1FMYU93165K
- Components: SUSPENSION,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: Front left tower rod is going thru the wheel well from rust. This can cause major damage to myself, occupants, and the lives of others outside of the vehicle. The front left seatbelt light continuously alarms as if it is not connected. Is it? The back lights are always out not sure to replacement repeatedly. I'd the seatbelt good enough in an accident, I am not trying to find that it either. The lights are a ticket every time and are another hazard to other motorist. The main wheel rust was told to me upon a failed inspection. It is not fixed at this point just found out and looking for recalls but found many with the same exact hazard. The warning lights go off every minute and a half while driving in the dashboard. This has been since I purchased the vehicle last year. The same goes for replacing the back running light. I don't know if the auto place was aware of these problems, but I'm positive the were just trying to move the vehicle if the lot at this point. The repairs are more than half of the cost just for the wheel rust hazard

2005 Ford Escape recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2005 Ford Escape.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2001-2008 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner vehicles manufactured March 31, 2001, to September 1, 2009. The affected vehicles are equipped with either a 2.3L or 3.0L engine and have had their CD4E transmission replaced with remanufactured one that was rebuilt between June 11, 2015 through July 15, 2015. These service repair part transmissions have a shift lever bolt that may not be properly tightened. As a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning.
- Consequence: If the shift lever disengages from the transmission, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the gear selection indicator may show that the transmission is in the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not actually be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmissions and either tighten the manual shift lever bolt or replace the manual shift lever assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S28.

The affected wheel bearings have incorrect dimensions of a 42mm bore, 76mm outer dimension, and 39mm width, instead of a 42mm bore, 78mm outer dimension and a 45mm width.
- Consequence: Use of an incorrectly sized wheel bearing can adversely affect the braking and steering of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Timken has begun notifying distributors who will offer purchasers replacement wheel bearings, free of charge. The recall began on May 21, 2015. Owners may contact Timken customer service at 1-866-984-6536.

The coolant pump for the hybrid system may fail resulting in the hybrid electronics overheating.
- Consequence: If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the original Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump with an improved brushless pump, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S19.

This SUV handles great and the interior is nice and comfortable. It's the perfect car to take on a long trip, especially with its excellent stereo system that comes with an 8 inch amp, 6 cd changer, and satellite readiness. Plus, the back seats lay completely down for a large cargo area. Overall, I have to say that this is the best vehicle I have ever purchased!

The Escape is a pleasure to drive, especially in the Colorado mountains where the AUTO AWD and bigger tires handle snow and off-road driving with ease. The steering and braking are very responsive, which helped me avoid an accident when another car blindly merged into my lane. The Escape's roomy interior and powerful V6 make it a great choice for those with pets or in need of extra cargo space. The only thing that could make it better would be a rear power window.

I recently switched from a 2003 Explorer to the 05 Escape and although I really loved and miss the Explorer, I think the Escape is great. The only thing that really bothers me every time is when the gas hose shuts off. It would be great if I could start the gas and walk away, especially since I live in Wisconsin and it's cold. Other than that, I absolutely love it! :)

Hello! We wanted to share our experience with our 03 xlt and 05 Limited. Although we missed the selector switch for AWD, we found that the center console and LTD amenities more than made up for it. We also noticed that wind noise was much better. However, we did encounter an annoying temperature problem where the heater would blow very hot or cool with no in-between. On the bright side, the fog/driving lights were better. Unfortunately, we experienced some issues with the transmission slipping when we let up on the gas and then back on while moving, and some plastic parts broke mysteriously - the front wheel lip and a panel on the back hatch. We also had some trouble with the ABS module, which went out 100 miles after the warranty expired. We had to fight with the dealer to get it fixed for a reduced cost since Ford was no help. Unfortunately, it just went out again, so we have decided to trade it in today. Thank you for listening to our story!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my Escape. I bought it back in October of 04 with 13,000 miles on it. So far, I've only had to make one major repair, which was the ignition module around 40,000 miles. Other than that, just normal wear and tear (water pump, serpentine belt, etc.). Overall, I'm very pleased with the performance and reliability. I just hit the 110,000 mile mark and it's still going strong!

I've owned this car for over 6 years now. I received it from my sweet Grandmother during college at 40k miles and have since driven it over 110k miles. It's been through a lot, from drifting in Death Valley to navigating the busy streets of New York City and San Francisco, to tackling the mountain roads of Aspen, Colorado. Here's my experience in a nutshell: If you're considering purchasing this car, I recommend having some mechanical experience under your belt. This will allow you to make minor repairs typical to this model at home, which can save you a lot of money in the long run. However, be prepared for the coils to go out, as this is a common issue with this model. On the bright side, there are plenty of forums out there with helpful information from fellow Ford enthusiasts. As for reliability, I've had some issues over the years. While normal wear and tear items like brakes, tires, shocks, and oil changes have been necessary, I've also had to deal with major repairs about once a year. The first major issue was a tubing system that was permanently out of stock, even 4 years after the car was released. We were able to make another tube work with some ingenuity, but this has been a recurring problem. Next, the computer went out, and then it went out again 20k miles later. Currently, I'm having trouble with cylinder misfires in Cylinder 1. Checking the forums, it looks like this is a really common problem for the 2003-2005 models, sometimes resulting in multiple cylinders going in a 'domino' like fashion over the course of 3-6 months. It can be quite pricey if you can't work on it yourself, as the labor to reach some of the cylinders can reach $600 each. Thanks to all the guys who like to work on their Fords and share their knowledge on the web!Hi there! I'm currently trying to decide whether to keep my car despite some cylinder issues. I've been reading on forums around the web and it seems like many other users have spent a lot of money replacing all the cylinder coils and spark plugs, only to find out that the PCM is bad. This can end up costing even more and triggering a chain of breakdowns in the process, while the issue develops over time. What do you think I should do?

I recently had to replace my 2002 Escape at 38K mi. due to several major repairs, including the torque converter, manifold, bearings, and struts. I decided to upgrade to a 2005 Escape with an extended warranty, but unfortunately, I experienced a gas line leak just three months later. At 60K mi., the torque converter and sunroof motor needed repairs, and now at 65K mi., the ABS sensor requires a costly repair of over $700. Additionally, I sometimes hear a crunching sound in the rear when making turns or going over bumps, despite only doing street/highway driving. Despite all maintenance being done on schedule by a Ford dealer, I am hesitant to purchase another Ford.

Bought in August 2012 with roughly 70k miles, here's what has gone wrong: one tie rod needs replacing, and the other is also in need of attention. There's also a hole in the exhaust, and the fuel pump and spark plugs have needed replacing. Additionally, the front brakes now require attention, and the transmission is clunking. It's been a frustrating experience, with bad mileage and difficulty handling the 3,500 lbs it claims to be able to manage.

The 4 cylinder engine in this car may not be as powerful as some drivers would like, especially in the summer when the air conditioning is on. It can take a few seconds to accelerate when needed, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the engine can be quite noisy and may sound like a diesel engine. Despite these issues, I have put 60,000 miles on it. The fuel economy is not great, as I can't seem to get more than 20 mpg no matter what I do. Overall, I would recommend considering other options before choosing this car.

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2005 Escape XLT with 78,000 miles on it. I got it for a great price and it looked amazing. However, after driving it for a couple of months, the OBD light came on and it started misfiring. After doing some research, I found out that Ford used sub-standard parts to build this model. Unfortunately, the ignition coils burn out the drivers in the ECM at about 100,000 miles, which is well past the warranty stage. I discovered that Ford knew about this issue and even sent a memo to dealers on what to look for if the code P0351 was showing. The repair for this issue costs an average of $1,500, and the worst part is that since this issue took place after market, the only ECM's left are used or remanufactured. This is why some people are choosing to buy Asian cars instead. I hope Ford can address this issue soon. Thank you for listening.
