The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).

With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).

The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

Common 2007 Ford E-250 problems

The Ford E-250, a popular choice among van owners, has faced several electrical system issues over the years. One of the most common problems reported by owners is that their headlights and tail lights come on by themselves or when they open or close the doors.

Another electrical system issue that has affected the Ford E-250 is the failure of the heater switch, which can melt without warning. This problem has been reported by owners of 2006 models, and it has led to the need for replacement of the switch. In some cases, this issue has resulted in a recall, as it has been linked to the risk of fires.

In addition to these electrical system problems, the Ford E-250 has also faced issues with its wiring and ignition systems. Owners have reported problems with spark plugs blowing out while driving, which can lead to significant engine damage and the need for costly repairs.

In summary, the Ford E-250 has faced a range of electrical system problems over the years, including issues with headlights and tail lights, heater switch failures, wiring problems, and ignition issues. These problems have led to the need for costly repairs and have created safety concerns for drivers. While the Ford E-250 remains a popular choice among van owners, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to consider the potential costs and risks associated with them.

When did Ford stop making the e250?

Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations.

What is the gas mileage on a 2007 Ford Econoline 250?

Based on data from 13 vehicles, 754 fuel-ups and 225,463 miles of driving, the 2007 Ford E-250 gets a combined Avg MPG of 12.02 with a 0.18 MPG margin of error.

What is the difference between Econoline 150 and 250?

The Basic Difference:

The higher the number, the more weight the van can haul and the heavier duty it is. For example, in this case, the E-250 is more of a heavy-duty option than the E-150. This means that vans are all built with different parts, so they can accommodate different weights.

What engine is in a Ford E250?

4.6-liter Triton V8

The Ford E-250 cargo vans are built on a rugged platform and offer large interiors with vast cargo capacities. The Ford E-250 comes with a standard 225-hp 4.6-liter Triton V8 with an optional 255-hp 5.4-liter Triton V8. Both engines are mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

2016-05-24
  • Manufacturer: New England Wheels
  • Components: EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY
  • Summary: New England Wheels (New England) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Ford E-250, E-350, and 2015 Ford Transit vans equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts by Ricon. The platform side plate of the affected wheelchair lifts may crack. Additionally, the lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.
  • Consequence: If the platform side plates crack or the platform mounting fails from out-of-position bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the vehicle's doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: New England will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2016. Owners may contact New England customer service at 1-800-886-9247. New England's number for this recall is 16E-020.

The affected lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.
  • Consequence: If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.
  • Remedy: New England Wheels will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on January 5, 2016. Owners may contact New England Wheels customer service at 1-800-866-9247, or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884. New England Wheels' number for this recall is 15E-068.
