The Ford E-Series (also known as the Ford Econoline, Ford Econovan or Ford Club Wagon) is a range of full-size vans manufactured and marketed by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for 1961 as the replacement of the Ford F-Series panel van, four generations of the model line have been produced. Marketed for both cargo and passenger transport configurations, the E-Series has been designed with multiple design variations for both retail and commercial sale, including vans, and commercial-grade cutaway van chassis and stripped chassis (a chassis without bodywork).

With over 8.2 million units sold since 1961, the Ford E-Series is the third-best selling van line in history (outranked only by the Ford Transit and Volkswagen Transporter). Ford retired the E-Series passenger and cargo vans after 2014, replacing them with the Ford Transit. As of current production, the E-Series remains offered exclusively in cutaway and stripped-chassis configurations. In 2021, the model line entered its 60th year of production (becoming the second current Ford line to do so).

The E-Series (cutaway/stripped chassis) is assembled by Ford at its Ohio Assembly facility (Avon Lake, Ohio), which has produced the model line since 1975. Prior to its closure, Lorain Assembly (Lorain, Ohio) assembled the model line from 1961 to 2005.

Common 2000 Ford Club wagon problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Ford Club Wagon 2000, several common problems have been identified:

  • Brakes: Another common concern is the condition of the brakes. Conflicting opinions exist on whether the brakes need a complete overhaul or just a cleaning. Neglecting brake maintenance can lead to safety hazards, such as reduced braking efficiency and potential failure. It is recommended to address any brake issues promptly to ensure optimal safety while driving.
  • Transmission Fluid Replacement: Due to the lack of transmission fluid changes, there are concerns about potential issues when replacing the fluid. Mechanics have highlighted the importance of maintaining the transmission by changing the fluid at appropriate intervals. Neglecting this maintenance can lead to transmission problems like slipping, emphasizing the need for timely fluid replacements.
  • Serpentine Belt: The need to replace the serpentine belt has been raised by mechanics, with concerns about the cost of labor. Proper maintenance of the serpentine belt is crucial for the vehicle's operation, as a worn-out belt can lead to engine issues and breakdowns. It is essential to address this maintenance task promptly to avoid more significant problems down the road.
  • Spark Plugs and Air Filter: Discrepancies exist regarding the condition of spark plugs and air filters. Neglecting these components can result in poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and potential ignition problems. Regular inspection and replacement of spark plugs and air filters are essential to maintain the vehicle's optimal performance and efficiency.

By addressing these common problems reported by Ford Club Wagon 2000 owners, you can ensure the longevity, safety, and performance of your vehicle. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are key to preventing more significant issues and ensuring a smooth driving experience.

What is a Ford Club Wagon?

Positioned at the heart of the full-size van market, the rear-drive Club Wagon was designed to appeal to buyers who needed a large people mover but who wanted to travel in comfort and style. Cargo versions were known as the Econoline.

What is the difference between Econoline 150 and 250?

The Basic Difference:

The higher the number, the more weight the van can haul and the heavier duty it is. For example, in this case, the E-250 is more of a heavy-duty option than the E-150. This means that vans are all built with different parts, so they can accommodate different weights.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY,INTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2005-05-06
  • VIN: 1FMPU16L8YL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY,INTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: WATER LEAKING THROUGH WINDSHIELD INTO ELECTRONIC SYSTEM (GEM MODULE). WIPERS QUIT WORKING DURING RAINY WEATHER WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF RAIN STORM. HEAD LIGHTS, PARKING LIGHTS AND HIGH BEAMS DON'T WORK AT ALL IN RAIN. INTERIOR LIGHTS INCLUDING DASH BOARD LIGHTS QUIT WORKING. HEAD LIGHTS AND WIPERS ALL QUIT WORKING IF RADIO IS TURNED ON. REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY WON'T WORK. 4 X4 WON'T TRANSFER IF USED, STAYS IN ONE GEAR AND GETS STUCK, WHICH I AM SURE IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION. TWO DAYS AFTER A RAIN STORM, MY EXPEDITION WAS OUTSIDE TRYING TO START ITSELF. I WAS INSIDE WHEN I HEARD THE NOISE. IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE WAS OVER STARTING THEIR VEHICLE. IT WAS THAT GRINDING SOUND OF THE STARTER BEING OVER TURNED. WHEN I WENT OUT SIDE TO MY DISBELIEF IT WAS MY EXPEDITION!

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2005-04-08
  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: 2FMZA5143YB
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: SMELLED SMOKE AFTER IGNITION. FOUND ELECTRICAL FIRE AFTER OPENING UP THE HOOD AT A SERVICE STATION. THE ATTENDANT QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. TOWED THE CAR TO PREMIER FORD. OUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER FROM TSC DIRECT INSPECTED MY VEHICLE. HIS REPORT WAS THAT THERE OIL DRIPPING FROM A DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDER THAT CAUSED THE WIRING TO HEAT UP. THUS, CAUSING THE FIRE. WE THINK THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD WARRANT A RECALL. HOWEVER, THEY DENY THE CLAIM BECAUSE WE ARE OVER THE 3-YEAR WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THEREFORE, WE SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE FULL COST OF THE JOB, LABOR AND TOWING EXPENSES.*AK

  • Fire: 1
  • VIN: 1FMRU1564YL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: UPON EXITING THE GROCERY STORY ON TUESDAY MARCH 29, 2005 I FOUND MY 2000 FORD EXPEDITION ON FIRE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS A BATTALION OF FIREMEN SHOPPING AT THE TIME & THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE VERY QUICKLY. BECAUSE THEY WERE THE FIRE CAPTAIN ASKED ME IF I HAD HAD THE CAR SERVICED, IN PARTICULAR THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER, AS THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY THE POINT OF ORIGIN. I SAID NO. A PASSERBY MENTIONED THE RECALL (WE HAD ONLY JUST RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL) AND AFTER REMEMBERING THE CONTENTS OF THE LETTER WE RECEIVED DID WE REALIZE THIS FAULTY PART WAS THE CAUSE. WE HAD OUR CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT AND HAD ONLY GOTTON THE RUN AROUND SINCE. THE FIRE DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO OUR VEHICLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AS WELL AS LEFT FRONT TIRE AND AREA BETWEEN THE ENGINE & TIRE. THIS WAS DUE TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE FIREMEN WHEN FIRE BROKE OUT.*AK
