1993 Dodge Spirit problems
The Dodge Spirit is a midsize automobile marketed by Dodge from the 1989 to the 1995 model years. The singular successor of the Dodge Aries, Dodge Lancer, and the Dodge 600 (initially marketed alongside the former), the Spirit was slotted between the Shadow and the Dynasty within the Dodge product line. In contrast to its predecessors, the Spirit was sold exclusively as a four-door notchback sedan.
The Spirit used the Chrysler AA platform, an extended-wheelbase variation of the Chrysler K platform. A design used across all three Chrysler divisions, the Spirit was marketed with alongside the Plymouth Acclaim and the 1990-1994 Chrysler LeBaron sedan. The model line was exported to Europe under the Chrysler Saratoga nameplate.
Chrysler assembled the Spirit alongside the Acclaim and LeBaron sedan at Newark Assembly (Newark, Delaware) and Toluca Car Assembly (Toluca, Mexico). The final example was produced on December 9, 1994. For 1995, the Dodge Stratus replaced the Spirit.

Common 1993 Dodge Spirit problems
The Dodge Spirit, produced in 1993, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. This article will discuss these issues in detail.
- Failed Distributor Pick Up Plate: One of the most common issues with the Dodge Spirit is a failed distributor pick-up plate. This problem is often indicated by a no-start condition or intermittent starting. The distributor pick-up plate is responsible for sending the ignition signal to the distributor, which then distributes the spark to the correct cylinder. If the plate fails, the ignition signal may not be sent correctly, resulting in a no-start condition or intermittent starting.
- Engine Oil Leaks: Another common problem with the Dodge Spirit is engine oil leaks. These leaks can occur from various sources, including the oil pan, timing cover, and valve cover gaskets. Oil leaks can lead to a decrease in engine performance and increased oil consumption. In severe cases, engine oil leaks can lead to engine failure.
- Noise From Rear Suspension: A common complaint from Dodge Spirit owners is a noise coming from the rear suspension. This noise can be caused by several factors, including worn-out bushings, loose suspension components, or damaged shock absorbers. Noise from the rear suspension can lead to decreased ride quality and handling.
- Transmission Control Module May Fail: The transmission control module (TCM) is responsible for controlling the shifting of the automatic transmission. If the TCM fails, the transmission may not shift correctly, leading to decreased performance and decreased fuel efficiency. In severe cases, a failed TCM can lead to transmission failure.
- Various Electrical Issues: Electrical issues are common in the Dodge Spirit, with owners reporting problems such as headlight failures, speedometer malfunctions, and battery problems. These issues can be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, blown fuses, or a failing alternator.
In conclusion, the Dodge Spirit, produced in 1993, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include a failed distributor pick-up plate, engine oil leaks, noise from the rear suspension, a failed transmission control module, and various electrical issues. If you own a Dodge Spirit, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and address them promptly to avoid more severe issues down the road.

Your older vehicle with a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine is doing great in terms of mileage for its size and weight, especially when laden. It's perfect for driving around town, with plenty of low-end torque. Although the engine runs out of steam past 75mph, it cruises smoothly at 60-65mph and is fairly quiet. At 62mph, the RPM is 2500, which is right in the middle of the torque curve. With 116,000kms (not miles) on the vehicle, it's still running smoothly without any major problems. Additionally, it just had a fresh coat of paint put on and it looks sharp.

The car was purchased as a salvage at 105K and has had no problems at all. I chose this car because the Plymouth Acclaim is a great choice.

I am selling my car after 13 years only because my daughter sold me a newer one. I have had wonderful luck with this car. There was only one unexpected repair and normal maintenance in those 13 years.

You made a great choice when you bought your car with 169,000 miles on it! It's amazing that you've driven it for more than 200,000 miles without any major mechanical issues. Regular maintenance like oil changes, tire replacements, and brake repairs have kept it running smoothly. It's clear that you have a very reliable car on your hands!

I purchased this vehicle as a second owner with 31,302 miles. Since then, I have put 44,698 miles on it. While I have had some issues with the car, including three automatic transmission replacements and two front wheel bearing replacements, I have found that the power windows malfunction and the air conditioner compressor is noisy when engaged. Additionally, there have been significant issues with the idling. Overall, I would not recommend this car.

This car is a very reliable car. It was my first car from my parents, and I must say, it is very good on gas and hasn't had many problems. Although it may not be the most exciting car to drive, it is a great option for those who prioritize reliability over sportiness or luxury. If you're looking for a dependable car, this would be a great choice to consider.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it 2 years ago with 106,000 miles on it, and now it has 124,000 miles. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with the transmission and engine lately. If you're in the market for a car, I would recommend considering something newer. However, if this is all you can afford right now, it's still a decent option. Take care!
Madison Abernathy 2024-03-04
This car has been a good running car for years, but it seems to have been showing signs of wear and tear in the last few years. However, it is still a decent car overall.
Alexandro Larkin 2024-01-18
I've had my Spirit for over 2 years now and it has been extremely reliable with only minor problems. Even with 136000 miles on it, it's still going strong. While it may not be the best looking car, if you're looking for reliability, you can't go wrong with this one. I recently purchased another Spirit '93 with 73508 miles and I'm confident I'll get at least 150k out of it.
