2008 Dodge Magnum problems
The Dodge Magnum is a nameplate used by several Dodge vehicles, at different times and on various markets. The name was first applied to a large Chrysler B platform-based 2-door coupe marketed from 1978 to 1979 sold in the United States and Canada. From the 2005 to the 2008 model years, the nameplate was revived for a Charger-based station wagon on the rear-wheel drive Chrysler LX platform, produced in Canada and sold on the American and Canadian market.
In Brazil, the Magnum was a top-of-the-line version of the local Dodge Dart, produced from 1979 to 1981.
In Mexico, the Dodge Magnum was a sporty rear-wheel drive two-door car based on Chrysler's M-body (American Dodge Diplomat/Plymouth Gran Fury). From 1983 to 1988 Dodge marketed a sporty two-door K-car as the "Magnum", with an available turbocharger engine from 1984 on.

Common 2008 Dodge Magnum problems
The Dodge Magnum, produced in 2008, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues span across various components of the vehicle, including the electrical system, airbags, engine, and powertrain.
One of the most frequently reported problems is related to the electrical system, which can be unreliable and unpredictable.
The engine and powertrain of the 2008 Dodge Magnum have also been reported to cause issues for owners. The engine can experience problems with overheating and oil consumption, while the powertrain can have problems with the transmission and drivetrain.
In terms of safety, there have been five NHTSA recalls for the 2008 Dodge Magnum, which is a relatively high number compared to other vehicles.
One of the powertrain recalls for the 2008 Dodge Magnum involves missing torque retention crimps, which can cause the rear axle hubs to loosen and allow the halfshaft to disengage from the wheel hub. This can lead to a loss of power and an increased risk of collision.
Another recall for the Dodge Magnum with the police package involves the gearshift cable and steering column mounting bracket, which can disengage and cause the vehicle to move on its own. This can also increase the risk of a crash.
Overall, the 2008 Dodge Magnum has been reported to have several common problems that can affect the vehicle's reliability, safety, and overall performance. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider doing thorough research before making a purchase.

- VIN: 2D4FV37V68H
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Vehicle purchased pre-owned/used Sept.7th 2022 from dealership. Had 3 open recalls which were addressed. Said recall in question is 14v567000 ignition switch problem. I have had vehicle back at dealer now 3 times for continued problem of ignition sticking in the start mode as it keeps turning over & you have to physically turn ignition off or cycle it to stop the sticking problem. Dealer has changed the ignition module 3 times & problem still exist. 3 modules in less than a year. I do understand that this is not a dealer problem as they are only the repair facility. I have called Chrysler corporation with the issue & they keep sending me back to the dealer. This is a faulty/defective part that falls completely on Chrysler & there engineering, design, development, testing, & production that is clearly not being done or accomplished. Safety issue clearly needs to be addressed at the highest level. I have seen many complaints concerning this recall that appear to not have been fixed from repeated failures. 1st attempted fix recall Sept 2022, 2nd attempted fix, Oct 2022, 3rd attempted fix Aug 2023. I have just taken said vehicle back to the dealer to hopefully address this issue again.

- Summary: CASE DESCRIPTION I HAD A RECALLS ON MY 2008 DODGE MAGNUM FOR AIRBAGS, AND IGNITION. HAD IT TOWED TO COMMINWEALTH DODGE CAUSE IT STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING. THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION, AND SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED AIRBAGS ALSO. THE IGNITION ALLOWED THE CAR TO THEN RESTART. HOWEVER WHEN I WENT TO PICK THE CAR UP IT RAN REALLY BADLY, AND HAD ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS IN THE DASH ON. I CONFRONTED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS BEFORE EVEN LEAVING THE LOT. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I TOWED IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS PULLED APART UNDER THE DASH. AFTER I PICKED THE CAR UP FROM THEM I'VE HAD THE WORST ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IMAGINABLE. I'VE BEEN STRANDED IN ELLENSBURG WA FOR 3 MONTHS, THE BATTERY DIED EVERY 3-4 WEEKS. FCA WILL NOT EVEN RETURN ANY OF MY CALLS, AND THE DEALERSHIP JUST TRIED TO SELL ME A NEW CAR WHEN I CONTACT THEM. PLEASE HELP

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL DEALER, MY CAR'S IGNITION MODULE WAS REPLACED AS A RESULT OF A RECALL. LAST WEEK MY CAR SHUT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE DRIVING 55MPH WHICH IS THE EXACT PROBLEM CAUSING THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BUT THE ENGINE QUIT RUNNING. THEN, AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS IT RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE CAR WILL ALSO NOT START ON OCCASION WHEN TURNING THE KEY UNLESS I PUSH THE KEY SIDEWAYS WHILE TURNING IT. I THINK SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE IGNITION MODULE. IT IS POSSIBLE THE PROBLEM WITH THE NEW IGNITION MODULE IS THE SAME AS THE OLD ONE? OR IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT EVER PERFORMED IN SPITE OF WHAT MY DEALER SAYS? THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM FOR FREE BECAUSE, ACCORDING TO THEIR RECORDS, THE RECALL OF THE IGNITION MODULE HAS BEEN DONE. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

- Summary: HELP!! I HAVE A 2008 MAGNUM. I TRIED FOR 3 MONTHS TO GET THE IGNITION RECALL DONE. "PARTS WEREN'T AVAILABLE". SUDDENLY 3/2016 MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THEY DID THE P57, R25 RECALLS. UPON RETURN OF CAR TO ME I NOTICE DASH FUNCTIONS INOPERABLE. I WENT RIGHT BACK INSIDE AND WAS TOLD I COULD LEAVE IT TO BE LOOKED AT (I WOULD BE BILLED) I CALLED FCAUSLLC AND THEY SET ME UP FOR A TOW TO A 2ND DEALER. THERE IT WAS FOUND THE WIRING UNDER THE DASH HAD BEEN PULLED APART. PARTIAL REPAIR WAS MADE THERE, BUT I THEN HAD A SLOW DRAIN ON ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. FOR 2+ MONTHS I WAS IGNORED BY FCA TRYING TO GET THE ISSUE REMEDIED. ON 5/22/16 I WAS ON HIGHWAY AND CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AGAIN. THIS TIME I HIT A RETAINING WALL. IT'S BEEN 3 MONTHS AND I HAVE NO SOLUTION TO THIS. I WAS IGNORED FOR A MONTH AND A HALF. THEN THEY DENEYED MY CLAIM DUE TO IT "NOT BEING A MFG. DEFECT" THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM BEFORE THIS HAPPENED IN THE MEANTIME THE DEALER WHERE THE CAR IS HAS NOTIFIED ME THE CARS AIRBAGS HAD BEEN DEPLOYED AND ARE NO GOOD.... IF THEY JUST REPLACED ONE OF THEM, HOW HAD THEY BEEN DEPLOYED... WHY WOULD THEY SAID TO HAVE DONE A RECALL ON A DEPLOYED SYSTEM..... AND WHY WAS I NOT NOTIFIED OF A AIRBAG SYSTEM THAT WOULD NOT HAVE HELPED ME IF I WOULD HAVE HIT THE WALL HEAD ON? I HAVE FILED 2 COMPLAINTS WITH BBB , AND FCA LIED ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION, AND THE CASE WAS CLOSED. THE DEALERSHIP THAT MESSED UP THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPLIED WITH A FALSE SITUATION, AND SALES PITCH FOR A NEW CAR, AND MY FILE WAS CLOSED. I AM 2500+ MILES FROM MY VEHICLE, AM IN FINANCIAL SHAMBLES. NO ONE FROM FCA WILL EVEN RETURN MY CALLS, AND THEY REFUSE TO GIVE ME ANY INFO WHEN I CALL. THIS HAS DESTROYED MY BUSINESS, FAMILY, FINANCES, AND STATE OF MIND. I AM OUT OF OPTIONS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW TO PURSUE THIS. THANK YOU

- Summary: WHILE SITTING AT RED LIGHT (FOOT ON BRAKES W ENGINE IDLING) CITY STREET WAITING FOR A GREEN LIGHT, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE (SOUND LIKE A LOUD CLUNK; BELT OR SOMETHING BREAKING APART) COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I QUICKLY LOOKED AT THE DASHBOARD FOR SOME INDICATION (NO WARNING/RED LIGHTS/HIGH TEMP/ LOW OIL PRESSURE) THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. NO SURE OF WHAT JUST HAPPENED, I DECIDED TO MAKE A U-TURN INTO PARKING LOT TO INVESTIGATE. AS I MADE THE U-TURN, I LOOKED IN REARVIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED A TRAIL OF FLUID BEHIND ME AS I DROVE INTO PARKING LOT. PARKED CAR, AND RAISED THE HOOD TO FIND THAT I HAD A COOLANT LEAK. NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM, I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO TOW MY VEHICLE HOME. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE REMOVING THE FRONTEND ASSEMBLY TO INVESTIGATE ROOT CAUSE OF MY COOLANT LEAK, SMALL AND LARGE PIECES OF PLASTIC FELL OUT FROM UNDER THE FRONTEND ASSEMBLY. AS I REMOVED THE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY, I NOTICED THE FAN BLADES HAD BROKE OFF (ROOT CAUSE OF MY COOLANT LEAK) AND DAMAGED THE RADIATOR.

- Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2008 Chrysler 300 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Dodge Magnum vehicles manufactured May 23, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Dodge Charger vehicles manufactured May 24, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured April 3, 2007, to May 12, 2008, and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured March 21, 2007, to May 12, 2008. In the affected vehicles, the ignition key (FOBIK) may not return to the "ON" position after being rotated to the "START" position, instead sticking between the two positions. Potentially, while the vehicle is being driven, the ignition may inadvertently move through the "RUN" position to the "ACCESSORY" or "OFF" ignition position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the ignition stays between "START" and "ON" positions it could cause loss of certain electrical functions. If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the "OFF" or "ACCESSORY" position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch and key FOBs, free of charge. The recall began August 19, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P57.

Before buying my Magnum, I read every review I could find to make sure I was making the right choice. I was particularly concerned about how the AWD would perform and if the 6 cyl would provide enough power. Even though I live in NY, I found the perfect car in Iowa, but it wasn't easy since they didn't make many '08s with a loaded SXT AWD. However, I am thrilled with my purchase! The AWD works great in the snow and the 3.5 engine moves the car around very well. I am even more pleased with the car and its performance than I expected to be. Right now, these cars are a great buy and I highly recommend them. Don't be afraid of going with the 3.5 V6, it handles the weight of the car just fine and it does not feel underpowered. Also, the blind spots are not that bad either.

I bought this vehicle looking for something that could haul my equipment and have the heart of a sports car. The car definitely delivers on the hauling part, and it's surprisingly roomy too. While the gas mileage isn't great, the raw power more than makes up for it! I'm thoroughly impressed with the SRT8 - it's sleek, fast, and no one even sees me coming!

Great Ride! It's really fun to drive. I got the SXT with leather, sunroof (with a huge opening), and a 3.5L V6 engine. The 3.5 liter engine has great performance for the size of the ride. I personally think the 2.7L would be too small, but that's just my opinion. I love the smooth ride (fun fact: most of the suspension parts are from Mercedes Benz). There's a HUGE amount of cargo space in the back, and it has a lot of great standard features. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an SUV-type cabin but a luxury-type ride. However, there are a few cons to consider: the cruise control stick design takes some getting used to, there are some blind spots on the sides of the windshield, and parking can be kind of tough since it's a long ride. You may need to do a lot of backing out and straightening to get into spaces.

It's such a shame that they're discontinuing this car! The power and exhaust sound are absolutely awesome, and the ride is fantastic. The classic hot-rod looks are a real plus too. While the fuel economy isn't great, it's to be expected with a big V-8 engine like this. Personally, I drive about 30 miles on the 95 every day to work, and I can't help but go over 90! It's just so comfortable and easy to drive fast. I really love the MyGig radio, even though it can be a little confusing to use at times. Some parts of the interior are a bit cheap, but that's just par for the course with a Dodge. The Auto-stick transmission isn't my favorite, as it doesn't work great, but overall this is a classic car that you should definitely pick up before they're all gone! It's really too bad that Chrysler is dropping the axe on it.

It's great to hear that you found a car that met your needs! This car seems to be a great option for those looking for a sporty, powerful, and low CG car that can pull a small trailer and haul lots of stuff, all for under $50K. It's impressive that you were able to complete a 4000 mi road trip and found the car to be very comfortable, even at 6'4

I downgraded from a Dodge Ram Hemi to save gas when I bought this 08 Magnum that only had 12k on it. However, not even a month after purchasing the car, it began to shut off in the middle of driving. Despite taking it back to the dealer about 4 times, the computer never recorded anything. I remained confident in my knowledge of the car and its issues, despite being met with skepticism from the dealer. The transmission makes loud clunky noises when accelerating and slowing down, and it bucks when it shouldn't. Additionally, the car stations change from FM to AM on its own, and the car shakes sometimes like it has a carburetor, which I know it doesn't have, but I do know what it feels like when an old car wants to shut off. It is clear that I received a bad car from the batch, but I am confident in my ability to handle the situation and find a solution.
