2015 Dodge Durango problems

The Dodge Durango is a mid-size/full-size SUV produced by Dodge starting with the 1998 model year. The first two generations were very similar in that both were based on the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram, both featured a body-on-frame construction and both were produced at the Newark Assembly Plant in Newark, Delaware through the 2009 model year.
The third-generation Durango began with the 2011 model year. It is built on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, features unibody construction, and has been assembled at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan since late 2010.
Each generation had options for different engine sizes and power ratings, with different transmissions also. In 2009 a hybrid variant was introduced, but ended quickly with the second generation Durango. From 2007 to 2009 the Durango was available as the Chrysler Aspen from Chrysler. Over two million Durangos have been sold since it was introduced in 1998.

- VIN: 1C4RDJDG0FC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Sections of LED brake light/race track light has stopped working due to water intrusion in rear panel. Back panel is not secured properly, allowing water to enter, corrode the harness and lights to fail. Due to this, the license plate harness & connectors are corroded as well. Replacing the tag lights will not fix the problem, you must replace the whole wiring harness for it to work again. The wiring harness is sold as one piece now by manufacturer due to this KNOWN issue, costing $600-$1000 to purchase and install. Manufacturer has stopped selling just the plate light plugs because they know the common issue with water damage, light failure and corrosion. The license plate lights are required by law to be working. Owners cannot continue replacing every year due to the manufacturers inadequate design. This impacts drivers with safety and on a legal level from law enforcement. There were no warning signals on my dash of this issue. Law enforcement has pulled me over for this issue and recommended speaking with the manufacturer.

- VIN: 1C4RDHAG2FC
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission shifts extremely hard from 1st to 2nd gear so hard it feels like you've been hit from behind. The jerk is so extreme I believe it could cause an accident. It is unsafe for dodge to leave this a problem. The problem is very well known a simple Google search shows there is alot of people with this problem. It also shifts hard from 6 to 5th gear and 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd gear not as extreme as 1st to 2nd but hard enough to say wtf was that. I've had it looked at twice and they always claim to not feel it which is more of we don't want to do the warranty work. The technician even said dodge doesn't want to do anything unless the transmission is just inoperable. This is horrible to deal with and something needs to be done asap.

2015 Dodge Durango recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2015 Dodge Durango.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
- Consequence: If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured December 9, 2015, to January 14, 2016. In the affected vehicles, the left front brake caliper may crack due to being made from an incorrect material.
- Consequence: A cracked brake caliper may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front left brake caliper and depending on its casting date, replace it, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on May 12, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S16.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: SUSPENSION:REAR
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured June 12, 2015, to June 20, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with rear lower control arms that may have been incorrectly heat treated. This may cause the rear lower control arm to fracture.
- Consequence: If the rear lower control arm fractures it may result in a change in ride height, loss of rear end stability, and reduced braking capabilities, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the lower control arms, free of charge. The recall began July 29, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R38. Note: This supersedes Recall No. 15V-407.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
- Consequence: Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

I work as a salesman for CDJR and I absolutely love the Durango! Recently, I purchased one for my wife and we are both thrilled with it. We needed a larger SUV with AWD and the Durango was the perfect choice for us. The price was unbeatable and we couldn't find anything comparable. Although it's an SXT and not the fanciest model, it still has some great creature comforts like a back-up camera (and sensors), NAV, heated seats, and steering wheel. The 8.4N setup is fantastic and very user-friendly. We previously owned a Ford and were not satisfied with the ease of use on the Sync system, but the Durango has exceeded our expectations. With plenty of room for our three kids, we are extremely pleased with our Durango overall!

I was looking for a vehicle that had a big engine, small size, and great gas mileage. It also needed to be able to tow a travel trailer, have AWD for snowmobiling, and fit my family comfortably. After reviewing several options, I found that Dodge was the best choice, despite my initial hesitation. The factory trailer tow package was a great addition, and the vehicle is able to pull the trailer and carry up to 7 passengers with ease. The only downside is the lack of a CD player, but I found a solution by using a battery-operated CD player through the aux jack. The acceleration is good, but I decided not to opt for the Hemi engine due to its poor mileage. The storage behind the 3rd row seats could be a bit more spacious, but it's manageable. As someone who has owned many cars and pickups in the past, I can honestly say that I love this vehicle! It's not as huge as other SUVs like the Tahoe, Armada, or Sequoia, making it easier to park and maneuver. The 8-speed transmission with paddle shifters is a great feature, especially when towing. The interior is similar to that of a Jeep or Mercedes, but at a much lower cost. Overall, it's a fine-looking and comfortable vehicle that I'm proud to be seen in. Don't let the Dodge insignia deter you from buying it!

So far after about 6 months, the only complaint I have is its called a Durango, that's it. Other vehicles we own/have owned include Lexus, Toyota, and Audi. Honestly, we went into this SUV search thinking we wanted a Highlander, Lexus GX, or GMC Acadia Denali. What came out of over a year of research and test drives? There is a reason why Fiat was considering making this a Jeep and removing the Dodge badge, because, in the higher trims, this is a high-class vehicle. In the end, with the Citadel trim, and everything, black/tan interior, I just love it, love the curves, love the high-end but simple interior, the easiest to use Nav/Ent system on the market, plenty of cargo room, drives smooth, just love it. I had a guy yesterday walking in the sailing yacht club parking lot who saw me driving by slowly from the front/side ask me if that was the new Mercedes, not kidding. It really reminds me of a smooth Lexus to be honest. Our second choice was probably the Acadia Denali, with the two-tone interior which was our favorite, it seems several people we know with the Lamba line vehicles have had major repairs, didn't have the power/pull the Durango did, had less room (I'm 6'3" 250lbs, so this is important), and the nav/ent system was complicated, at best. The only drawback? Well, it says Dodge on the car. Honestly, that is what held us back. Had it been a Jeep, Toyota, Lexus....it would have been easier. Durango just doesn't align with how refined this vehicle is, especially in the upper trims.Originally, we thought we wanted the hemi, but I found the V6 to be just as fast at acceleration, but probably less torque, so if you pull trailers a lot, go with the hemi, but if you are like me, and only do it 3 times a year ,the V6 is more than adequate.

We like them so much that we have already started shopping for a 2018.

Great vehicle! It may not be the most fuel-efficient, but it sure is reliable.

The headlights on this vehicle leave much to be desired, especially when driving in rural areas with no street lamps. The LED lights on high beam do not illuminate far down the road, and there is no side illumination when attempting to execute a turn at night, making it feel like you are turning into a black void. Additionally, poor visibility out the front windshield due to side posts blocking a lot of the road can be frustrating. To see any obstacles when reversing, a backup camera is absolutely necessary due to the back seat design. It is also difficult to see out the back when trying to launch a boat, as the back seats are so high that they block your view. Unfortunately, the window is also too high, even when all the back seats are down. While the mechanical aspects of the vehicle have been relatively good, there are some design flaws that can be frustrating and costly to fix. For example, the battery is located under the passenger seat and requires a specialized tool or wrench to extract it from its cubbyhole, which can be inconvenient and expensive. Additionally, the cost of replacing the LED lights and front headlights is quite high due to the proprietary bulbs used. Dodge should consider the impact of their engineering decisions on the cost of maintenance for their customers.Costing about $230, which is consistent with the earlier issues noted above.

I have been driving SUVs for the past 20 years, mostly GM vehicles such as Blazers, Tahoes, and Yukons. Recently, I decided to trade in my Yukon Denali (6.2L V8) for a Durango (3.6L V6) because I wanted to save on fuel costs. I was hoping to get better gas mileage from the Durango, but unfortunately, it has been quite disappointing. Even with a light foot on the highway, I struggle to get more than 20mpg. While the quoted figures may be accurate, they do not reflect real-world driving conditions. The build quality of the Durango is decent, but as an owner of the top-of-the-line Citadel model, I was disappointed with the trim level. The lack of sill plates and signs of wear on the door trim after only 3 months are concerning. Additionally, the carpet over the 3rd row of seats is showing signs of strain where it stretches over the interior mechanism. I am not confident in the longevity of this vehicle's good looks. There is also a noticeable rattle coming from somewhere under the dash on both sides, which is concerning. The engine is marginally powerful enough, but the transmission is lazy and does not shift soon enough. I have gotten into the habit of paddle shifting to improve the shifting. Overall, I am disappointed with the Durango's performance and build quality. On the plus side, the electronics and sound system are good, and it's fairly nimble for an SUV. Although it's not as nice or nimble as a Lexus, it's definitely an improvement from the tank I had before. However, based on my experience with this Dodge, I won't be buying another one. It's definitely a case of buyer's remorse.

After only 6 months and 11,000 miles, we have had to take our new vehicle to the shop six times. Despite having the back shocks replaced and a sensor in the fuel system fixed, the check engine light still comes on, disabling our remote start capabilities. We were disappointed to find out that the sensor replacement did not solve the issue. Additionally, the DVD player in the entertainment system is unreliable. We are currently seeking assistance from Dodge to resolve these issues. While we believe this midsize SUV has the potential to be great, our experience so far has been frustrating. We are confident that with the right intervention, these issues can be resolved and we can enjoy our new vehicle to its fullest potential.

It's great to hear that you enjoyed driving this car for the first 5 years! However, we understand that you've had some issues with it recently. We're sorry to hear that you had to replace the radiator, especially since it required removing the front end. It must have been frustrating to deal with overheating issues and having to replace the engine due to the aluminum block falling apart. It's disappointing that these issues arose, especially since the car was bought new and had only about 70000 miles. We appreciate your feedback and hope that you find a vehicle that better suits your needs!

Picked up new at dealer with 33 miles on it. Drove it to Beaver Dam Az. and the trans. went out at about 470 miles. They towed it back to dealer that said it would be about 3 weeks before they could even look at it. So now we are stuck with a peace of junk.
