2008 Chrysler Sebring problems

The Chrysler Sebring (/ˈsiːbrɪŋ/ SEE-bring) is a line of mid-size automobiles that was sold from 1995 through 2010 by Chrysler. Three generations of convertibles, two generations of sedans, and two generations of coupes were produced. Although the coupe shared the same name and some styling cues, it was mechanically unrelated to the other Sebring models.
The Sebring line was introduced in 1995 with the Chrysler Sebring coupe. It was the replacement for the Chrysler LeBaron coupe. In 1996 the convertible was introduced, replacing its LeBaron counterpart as well. For 2001, both body styles were redesigned and a sedan version was offered, replacing the Chrysler Cirrus. The coupe was discontinued after 2005 with no replacement model planned.
The redesigned sedan was introduced for 2007, and a convertible the following year. New options included all-wheel drive on sedans and an available retractable metal top for the convertible. All Sebring models were replaced by the Chrysler 200 for the 2011 model year.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-01
- VIN: 1C3LC56K68N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Engine frequently stalls while driving. I've had my car shut off while I'm driving many times, the steering wheel and brakes lock up and it makes it hard to get off the street to safety. This happens a LOT. It is very dangerous and scary. I get anxiety everytime I drive because I'm scared of it happening again. My car once turned off in the middle of a busy intersection while trying to turn. It came on after about 45 seconds but it was terrifying. Battery often dies (just replaced it). Horn would go off randomly without stopping for a long time. I had to disconnect the horn (on both sides) because it would keep randomly going off with no way to stop it. Cruise control stopped working one day. Sometimes it comes up when I press cruise control but it turns off when I try setting a speed. Drivers window broke inside, I think something snapped inside the door. I've had it replaced 3 times but it keeps breaking. A/C makes an awful grinding noise sometimes, but it goes away if I turn the A/C off then back on. Also with the A/C, a door or something inside the dash will get stuck every so often and it makes a LOUD clicking like noise but it goes away after about 20 seconds (something to do with the actuator?). Brake light will come on sometimes when I stop. It goes away shortly after I start driving again. ABS light has been on my dash for a few months now. Most of these issues have been happening for over a year now. Most of this shows up under a recall from 2008, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING. It doesn't show up under my VIN number but I'm having the same exact problems.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-02
- VIN: 1C3LC46K48N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: I was on my way to work. All the warning light appeared on my dash. Then all the warning light, radio, speedometer gage and all head light and tail lights went out. I was driving in the dark. My engine bogged down no power. I was barley moving. I replaced the battery no difference. I replaced the alternator worked for 3 minutes and then the car was back to the same as before. I contacted a nearby mechanic facility they told me that it was most definitely the fuse panel under the hood. That's its not a recall but a lawsuit replacement. I notified the manufacturer and they told me my Vin number was not under recall. I'm confused on what to do not. I'm in no way able to purchase a new vehicle at this time. Nor spend hundreds or thousands in repairs. Please help.

The week this happened the tire pressure indicator in the lower left corner of Dash was lit up and the cruise control light would come on but when engaged it would not drive at the limit set only reduce is speed the stereo CD changer didn't work I thought it was just because it was old the cigarette lighter which I used for my power source the light on that device would flicker in and out showing it wasn't getting a good connection the key would get stuck in the ignition or do a continuous storage where you it would not spring back as it should you'd have to turn it off and then try to restart it the battery in the fob work just fine before all of this took place now the battery is dead in the fob as well. it won't hold a charge I want to know how it's going to get fixed and with whose money?? $95 for Diagnostic.while covering windows later that night,I was able to see a dim red light where the tire pressure indicator was lit up at the fuses are fine the battery is 6 months old but it is constantly draining I it won't stay charged I can't get it out of gear it to put it in neutral to move it anywhere. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-01
- VIN: 1C3LC56K68N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: In February 2021 my car wouldn’t stop, tried to give it a jump and it still wouldn’t start. Replaced the battery and it started working again. In April 2021 my engine light came on. I got a diagnostic and the error code read: P2016 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Bank 1. I didn’t get it fixed. Shortly after, I began hearing a faint crackling noise and noticed when I would drive on turn pikes my a red brake symbol would briefly pop up on my dash board and then go away. In May 2021 my horn stopped working and front right turn signal light stopped working. I tried to get a new one installed it wouldn’t work. I was told it could be an electrical issue. In July 2021 my right low beam head light stopped working. I tried to get a new bulb installed and it still wouldn’t work. At this time I was told the same thing, that it seems like there may be an electrical issue. This month, November 2021, a few days ago on Monday November 1st, I began noticing an acceleration issue in the morning. I would press the accelerator and it wouldn’t pick up until a few seconds later, it was like a delay. Later that day while I was driving on the free way a red flash symbol with lines between it began flashing on my car and my car wouldn’t drive over 20 mph. I pulled over. Shortly after I turned my car back on and it began driving semi normal and I was able to get home. I tried out my car the next day and in the morning the same thing happened again. The red flash symbol with 2 lines on the side of it began flashing on my dashboard and my car wouldn’t go over 20 mph. I’m not sure what the issue is but when I looked up what the red flashing symbol, I noticed a few others who had a similar experience with their 2008 Chrysler Sebring which made me want to look up whether there was a recall and I found out there was but when I searched whether my car was eligible through my VIN number it said there was none unrepaired.

The 2008 Limited Hardtop convertible is a classic. It's a blast to drive and has plenty of performance. I wanted to mention that the performance and handling of the Sebring improved greatly when we installed a set of General Altimax RT43 tires. The previous tires made the car harsh riding and were very noisy. The difference was amazing! We get great mileage on the road, averaging 27 to 28 mpg. Since we live in the country, almost all our driving miles are on 60 mph roads. With the windscreen up, the car is quieter, and with the side windows down, it's even more enjoyable. I've owned many convertibles, including a 1958 Morris Minor, and the Sebring is by far the best.

You've had your car for about 14 months now and it has been extremely reliable and fuel efficient. The hard top makes for a very quiet convertible and the styling seems to attract scores of people who watch the top go up and down in awe. You've even had a couple of Mercedes guys fall in love with this car! When the convertible top is up, the trunk opens up to a massive area that is representative of the late 60s and early 70s cars for space. The 18-inch wheels on the vehicle really grip the road and the ride is excellent. The paint, fit, and finish are also excellent. This car gives you great pride when you take it anywhere as someone is bound to spark a conversation about the car and lead into the hard top convertible they had in the fifties.
-
Great vehicle! With current incentives, it's a fantastic value and a lot of fun to drive. The MyGig system and navigation have some great new features. I usually own and drive BMW, MBenz, and Porsche, but this car gets me more compliments. If you don't need the high-end performance of the MB CLK, you can get all of the fun and features at half the price!
-
I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2001 Sebring Convertible and the '08 model that I recently traded it in for. While the '01 model had a notably bigger cabin, both in the front and rear seats, the '08 model rides higher, which is a nice feature. Additionally, the '08 model has tighter handling and a better turning radius. Although the V6 engine in my 01 Sebring had much better acceleration, the '08 2.7-liter V6 is still adequate and provides a comfortable, smooth ride. Overall, I believe that the 08 Touring model is a tremendous value. It's a sharp looking, comfortable car with great features. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on this!
-
We bought this car after purchasing an '01 model for our daughter and deciding to keep it for ourselves. It's a joy to drive and has a classy appearance that makes it look much more expensive than it actually is. Everywhere we go, people compliment us on it. The gas mileage is much better than my previous vehicle, and did I mention how fun it is to drive? With the top up, I can fit a huge Sam's run worth of groceries in the trunk, and even with the top down, I can still fit an adequate amount. My husband, who is 6'2

If you're in search of a stylish convertible town car, you've come to the right place. However, it's worth noting that the seats are quite hard, there can be some road noise, and the ride is quite firm, so it may not be the best choice for long trips. If it's still available, we highly recommend considering the lifetime everything, unlimited mileage maintenance warranty, given the complexity of the top mechanisms.
Zion Wehner 2025-02-13
I wrote a review a year ago and I'm happy to report that with an additional 15000 miles, I still haven't encountered any problems. I just washed and waxed my vehicle with white paint and it still gleams like new, especially now that the sun is out and I dropped the top with no issues. I paid $12000 for the Touring model back in February 2009 and it's still worth about the same price, if not more. I have no regrets and this may turn out to be one of my better automobile purchases, even if it does suffer some future breakdown. For now, everything is good!

The 2008 sedan has had multiple issues with the transmission, starter, and stalling unexpectedly. Despite attempts to fix the issues, they continue to occur, leading to frustration and financial strain. It may be worth considering alternative options, especially given the known transmission problems with Dodge/Chrysler vehicles.
Tod Bradtke 2024-11-25
I would not recommend purchasing this car due to its lack of power, loud road noise, and poor mileage. While the exterior may be visually appealing, the overall performance and functionality of the vehicle do not meet expectations. It is important to carefully consider all aspects before making a purchase decision.

I've been having so many problems since I bought my car. The brake light is on, the battery and transmission have been acting up, and the car even turned off on the highway. I've taken it to several mechanics, but they can't seem to find the issue. I regret putting all my savings into this Chrysler and I don't think I'll be buying one again.
