2008 Chrysler Sebring problems
The Chrysler Sebring (/ˈsiːbrɪŋ/ SEE-bring) is a line of mid-size automobiles that was sold from 1995 through 2010 by Chrysler. Three generations of convertibles, two generations of sedans, and two generations of coupes were produced. Although the coupe shared the same name and some styling cues, it was mechanically unrelated to the other Sebring models.
The Sebring line was introduced in 1995 with the Chrysler Sebring coupe. It was the replacement for the Chrysler LeBaron coupe. In 1996 the convertible was introduced, replacing its LeBaron counterpart as well. For 2001, both body styles were redesigned and a sedan version was offered, replacing the Chrysler Cirrus. The coupe was discontinued after 2005 with no replacement model planned.
The redesigned sedan was introduced for 2007, and a convertible the following year. New options included all-wheel drive on sedans and an available retractable metal top for the convertible. All Sebring models were replaced by the Chrysler 200 for the 2011 model year.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-01
- VIN: 1C3LC56K68N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Engine frequently stalls while driving. I've had my car shut off while I'm driving many times, the steering wheel and brakes lock up and it makes it hard to get off the street to safety. This happens a LOT. It is very dangerous and scary. I get anxiety everytime I drive because I'm scared of it happening again. My car once turned off in the middle of a busy intersection while trying to turn. It came on after about 45 seconds but it was terrifying. Battery often dies (just replaced it). Horn would go off randomly without stopping for a long time. I had to disconnect the horn (on both sides) because it would keep randomly going off with no way to stop it. Cruise control stopped working one day. Sometimes it comes up when I press cruise control but it turns off when I try setting a speed. Drivers window broke inside, I think something snapped inside the door. I've had it replaced 3 times but it keeps breaking. A/C makes an awful grinding noise sometimes, but it goes away if I turn the A/C off then back on. Also with the A/C, a door or something inside the dash will get stuck every so often and it makes a LOUD clicking like noise but it goes away after about 20 seconds (something to do with the actuator?). Brake light will come on sometimes when I stop. It goes away shortly after I start driving again. ABS light has been on my dash for a few months now. Most of these issues have been happening for over a year now. Most of this shows up under a recall from 2008, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING. It doesn't show up under my VIN number but I'm having the same exact problems.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-02
- VIN: 1C3LC46K48N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
- Summary: I was on my way to work. All the warning light appeared on my dash. Then all the warning light, radio, speedometer gage and all head light and tail lights went out. I was driving in the dark. My engine bogged down no power. I was barley moving. I replaced the battery no difference. I replaced the alternator worked for 3 minutes and then the car was back to the same as before. I contacted a nearby mechanic facility they told me that it was most definitely the fuse panel under the hood. That's its not a recall but a lawsuit replacement. I notified the manufacturer and they told me my Vin number was not under recall. I'm confused on what to do not. I'm in no way able to purchase a new vehicle at this time. Nor spend hundreds or thousands in repairs. Please help.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-01
- VIN: 1C3LC56K68N
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: In February 2021 my car wouldn’t stop, tried to give it a jump and it still wouldn’t start. Replaced the battery and it started working again. In April 2021 my engine light came on. I got a diagnostic and the error code read: P2016 Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Bank 1. I didn’t get it fixed. Shortly after, I began hearing a faint crackling noise and noticed when I would drive on turn pikes my a red brake symbol would briefly pop up on my dash board and then go away. In May 2021 my horn stopped working and front right turn signal light stopped working. I tried to get a new one installed it wouldn’t work. I was told it could be an electrical issue. In July 2021 my right low beam head light stopped working. I tried to get a new bulb installed and it still wouldn’t work. At this time I was told the same thing, that it seems like there may be an electrical issue. This month, November 2021, a few days ago on Monday November 1st, I began noticing an acceleration issue in the morning. I would press the accelerator and it wouldn’t pick up until a few seconds later, it was like a delay. Later that day while I was driving on the free way a red flash symbol with lines between it began flashing on my car and my car wouldn’t drive over 20 mph. I pulled over. Shortly after I turned my car back on and it began driving semi normal and I was able to get home. I tried out my car the next day and in the morning the same thing happened again. The red flash symbol with 2 lines on the side of it began flashing on my dashboard and my car wouldn’t go over 20 mph. I’m not sure what the issue is but when I looked up what the red flashing symbol, I noticed a few others who had a similar experience with their 2008 Chrysler Sebring which made me want to look up whether there was a recall and I found out there was but when I searched whether my car was eligible through my VIN number it said there was none unrepaired.

I am the proud original owner of my Sebring, which I bought in new condition with only 60 miles on the clock. I got a fantastic deal during the 2008 recession, paying only about $18k for a $27k sticker price. She still runs like a dream, even after 13 years, and I have had no problems with her reliability. While the hardtop and mechanism for retracting it add some weight to the car, the 2.7L engine is more than capable of handling it. She may not be a high-performance sports car, but she is perfect for daily driving, reaching 60 in a respectable 6-8 seconds. One of the coolest things about her is the massive trunk room, which is even more impressive with the top up. I looked at the Mustang convertible when I was car hunting, but the Sebring's trunk room is far superior. With her top down, she still has plenty of room for several full bags of groceries. In my opinion, the 2008 Sebring is the perfect compromise between the sporty look of a convertible and the comfort of a family car. I average about 20 MPG in combined city/highway driving, and have topped out at 28 MPG on long trips with freeway driving. Even with mostly in-town driving, I still average around 18 MPG, both with the top up and with the top down. While I would like her to have a bit more horsepower, I'm not willing to sacrifice MPG for it. Overall, the Sebring is a total package, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.Sometimes I compare current model convertibles and ask myself if I'd trade her for one, and even though they may have a few more bells and whistles as technology progresses, so far I've always answered no. I love my car. My girl (I named her Marie) has been well maintained, not abused, and has been a great companion for my needs and adventures all these years. I look forward to as many years together as she'll give me in the future.

This has been a great automobile - it's been so reliable! It always starts up and runs well, although it does ride like a sports car. I've really enjoyed having this vehicle. When I first purchased it, it had 47,000 miles on it, and now it only has 78,838 miles, so I haven't put too many miles on it since then. Of course, I've kept up with all the maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and belt checks. It's always passed inspection with flying colours too! My dog and I have loved cruising around in the summer with the top down since it's a convertible.

We purchased this red car about two months ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since! It's both fun to drive and economical, getting an impressive 32 mpg on long trips. We've had no issues with it so far, and we absolutely adore its stylish design and unique hideaway top, which always turns heads. The engine runs smoothly and quietly, with no vibrations or body shakes, even on rougher roads. While it may not be the most powerful car out there, it's certainly more than adequate for most driving situations. We loved this car so much that we even bought a silver one for my wife! She opted for the Touring model convertible with the 2.7 liter V6 motor. Please see the attached information for more details.
-
This is my first convertible, and first Chrysler product in 10 years. I'm thrilled with the car overall! The looks, ride, comfort, and the price are all fantastic. It looks like a car that costs twice as much!
-
I've read other reviews on the 2008 convertibles, but I didn't see anyone complaining about water dripping into the car when you put the window down or open the door in the rain. However, if it's raining, you may get a fair amount of water in the car (or on your leg) if you have to get out or open the window for any reason.

The 2008 sedan has had multiple issues with the transmission, starter, and stalling unexpectedly. Despite attempts to fix the issues, they continue to occur, leading to frustration and financial strain. It may be worth considering alternative options, especially given the known transmission problems with Dodge/Chrysler vehicles.
Tod Bradtke 2024-11-25
I would not recommend purchasing this car due to its lack of power, loud road noise, and poor mileage. While the exterior may be visually appealing, the overall performance and functionality of the vehicle do not meet expectations. It is important to carefully consider all aspects before making a purchase decision.
Elias Oberbrunner 2024-10-16
I've been having so many problems since I bought my car. The brake light is on, the battery and transmission have been acting up, and the car even turned off on the highway. I've taken it to several mechanics, but they can't seem to find the issue. I regret putting all my savings into this Chrysler and I don't think I'll be buying one again.

As loyal Chrysler buyers, my wife and I were excited to purchase this vehicle due to its great styling and convertible feature. However, we have unfortunately experienced a number of issues with the car over the past 2 years, resulting in 12 trips to the repair shop. These issues have included brake lights coming on intermittently, starting getting stuck, front-end/steering noise, stuck door locks, stalling, recalls and interior fit issues. We are currently working with Chrysler assistance to resolve these issues and find a solution that works for us. Safety is our top priority and we believe that addressing the front-end problems is crucial for the safe operation of the vehicle. We are hopeful that we can come to a resolution that is fair and satisfactory for all parties involved.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my LX Convertible; 2.4 L 4 cyl. I've had it for 3 months now and I'm amazed by the gas mileage! It's really impressive for a vehicle this heavy. While it may be a little under-powered and the acceleration isn't the best, once I'm on the open road on a long highway trip, if I set the cruise around 67 mph, I can count on getting 32 mpg or more. In fact, I've even been as high as 36.5 mpg! I traded my 2002 Sebring Convertible GTC (2.7 L, 6 cyl) in for this one and while the GTC was a lot lower to the ground and more stable, a little more sporty, the LX handles more like a sedan. It's a little top-heavy, but still a really cool car though. Thanks for listening!
