2006 Chrysler Crossfire roadster problems
The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, two-seat sports car, marketed by Chrysler and manufactured by Karmann of Germany for the 2004 through 2008 model years.
Developed during the period when Chrysler and Mercedes Benz had merged, known as Daimler Chrysler, the two-seater uses the Mercedes-Benz R170 platform and shares 80% of its components with the first generation SLK. The second generation SLK was built on the R171 platform with model year 2005; the R170 platform was essentially handed down to Chrysler for the Crossfire. Having initially arrived in 2001 as a concept car styled by Eric Stoddard, the Chrysler was further refined by Andrew Dyson before production began in 2003 for 2004 model year sales.
Design
The name "Crossfire" refers to two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides, prominently crossing below the mirrors on the door panels. Conceived during the period of Daimler Chrysler, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.
The Chrysler Crossfire concept car was introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show and the production version was unveiled at the 2002 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2004 model "is as faithful a translation from concept to production as any in recent memory." The concept car was designed "to evoke a strong, passionate, emotional response. We had to retain that. We want to polarize our audience—we want people to love it or hate it."
Conceived as a two-seat halo car for the Chrysler brand, the marketing objective was also to make use of available components using a two-seat roadster chassis. The production car shares about 39% of its parts with Mercedes-Benz vehicles and Chrysler dealers were required to invest in special equipment, tools, and parts to be able to market the new luxury model. The rear-wheel-drive Crossfire coupe styling objective was for a "unique, almost sculptural" design.
The Crossfire 's styling includes a wide stance with 19-inch rear wheels and 18-inch front wheels. Automotive journalists compared the Crossfire to American Motors' 1965–1967 AMC Marlin. Noted journalist, Paul Leinert said the "distinctive boat-tail rear end reminds more than one observer of the old Rambler Marlin." For example, Rob Rothwell wrote "... when I first espied the rear lines of the Chrysler Crossfire I was instantly transported back to 1965 and my favorite car of that year, the Rambler Marlin." Motor Trend also compared the "provocative boattail theme" of the 2004 Crossfire's sheetmetal to that of the AMC Marlin fastback. The Crossfire's tail is "formed as the edges of the roof converge into a kind of teardrop shape, leaving the rear fenders to flare out over the rear wheels."
Chrysler said the Crossfire took inspiration from the 1930s art deco period and buildings such as the Chrysler Building. Motor Trend cites vehicle influences from 1930s including Bugattis and the Talbot Lago. Chrysler wanted to once again offer a performance coupe reminiscent of the luxury reputation they enjoyed during the late 1950s to mid-1960s with the Chrysler 300 letter series coupes and convertibles.

Common 2006 Chrysler Crossfire roadster problems
The Chrysler Crossfire, introduced in 2004 and produced until 2008, is known for its distinctive design and performance. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems, particularly in the 2006 model year. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by owners:
- Stalling: The 2004 Crossfire has had five complaints about stalling while driving, which can be a significant safety concern. This issue has not been reported in other model years.
- Electrical Problems: The Crossfire has had 15 complaints related to electrical issues, which can affect various aspects of the vehicle's performance and convenience. These problems have been reported across different model years, from 2004 to 2008.
- Engine Issues: The Crossfire's engine has had eight complaints, with issues such as valve cover "weeps" and leaks. These problems have been reported in the 2006 model, with some vehicles requiring multiple repairs since new.
- Interior Problems: The Crossfire's interior has had seven complaints, primarily related to low seats and a firm ride, which can make it difficult for taller individuals to get in and out of the vehicle. These issues have been reported across different model years, from 2004 to 2008.
- Lights: The Crossfire has had five complaints about its lights, primarily related to headlight lens fogging, which can affect visibility and safety. These problems have been reported across different model years, from 2004 to 2008.
- Rear End Bug: A rear end bug that causes a whining noise has been reported in the Crossfire. This issue is fixable under warranty and has not resulted in any major failures or safety concerns.
It is important to note that the Crossfire has a unique design and performance characteristics, which may not appeal to everyone. Additionally, some of the issues reported, such as the rear window falling out, have been addressed under warranty. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

Is Crossfire a good car?
After driving the Crossfire, we came away wishing it had more low-end torque, slightly better steering feel, less interior plastic and better ergonomics in the cabin, but we can't deny how much fun the car is on twisty roads, or how upscale it feels when cruising along coastal highways.
Are Chrysler crossfires expensive to fix?
The annual maintenance cost of a Chrysler Crossfire is $422. Repair and maintenance costs vary depending on age, mileage, location and shop.
How many miles can a Chrysler Crossfire last?
Re: Who has the highest mileage on their Crossfire? I've seen some with over 160 and 200 K on the odometer. There's no reason these engines can't go 2 to 300 K miles or more if you maintain them. It's all the other "stuff" on or around the engine you'll have to replace, just like any car.

Why did the Crossfire fail?
The Crossfire SRT-6 had a factory wing that looked cheap, and out of place, so the exterior styling was divisive, but the interior was where the Crossfire fell apart.

I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND NOTHING HAPPENED, I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR JUMP STARTED, WHICH TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. I HAD NO PROBLEMS OR INDICATIONS THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG TILL THIS HAPPENED. MECHANICS HAVE PUT IN A NEW BATTERY, A CRANK POSITION SENSOR, AND A CAM POSITION SENSOR ON THE CAR. IT STARTED ONCE AFTER THAT, RAN FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN STOPPED. AFTER THAT IT WON'T START, EVEN WHEN BEING JUMPED. TRYING TO GET A ECM FROM THE DEALER. DEALER SAID THE COST IS $2,700.00, AND ORDERS ARE PENDING UNTIL JULY 1, 2019 BECAUSE OF SUPPLIER CHANGE. PLUS THERE IS A FLASHING CHARGE OF $147.00 TO RESET THIS ITEM FOR THE CAR. OTHER INTERNET USERS HAVE REPORTED HAVING THEIR CARS SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAYS ALSO.

- Summary: THIS 2006 CROSSFIRE ROADSTER IS GARAGE KEPT. THE CAR WAS PARKED, WHEN THE GLASS SEPARATED ON THREE SIDES FROM THE CLOTH CONVERTIBLE TOP. FAILURE OF THE REAR WINDOW GLASS APPEARS TO BE DUE TO LACK OF ATTACHMENT, OTHER THAN ADHESIVE GLUE. THE CLOTH CONVERTIBLE TOP IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THIS POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD TO THE PUBLIC, CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE IS RATED AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 150 MPH. IT APPEARS THAT CHRYSLER HAS RECALLED SOME 2005 MODELS WHICH HAVE THE SAME TYPE CONVERTIBLE TOPS AND GLASS WINDOWS, MADE BY KARMANN. AS THE SAFETY ISSUES CONTINUE I WOULD HOPE THAT CHRYSLER WOULD RECALL ALL OF THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS BEFORE THE PUBLIC IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I AWAIT AN URGENT RESPONSE FROM CHRYSLER TO FIX THIS HAZARDOUS PROBLEM ME. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH YOUR BEST EFFORTS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AND KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. 2-13-18 DISAPPOINTED DRIVER IN EAST TENNESSEE

- Summary: THE BACK WINDOW OF THE CROSSFIRE HAS SEPARATED FROM THE TOP. WE SAW THIS WHILE WE WERE WALKING AROUND IT IN GARAGE. I HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2008 AND IS KEPT IN A GARAGE. I ONLY HAVE 53000 MILES ON IT. I KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOWS FALLING OUT BECAUSE THEY A FIXING THEM IN 2005 MODELS BUT NOT THE 2006 MODELS. IS THERE ANY THING I CAN DO BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT TOP IS VERY EXPENSIVE. WE HAVE HAD THE WINDOW RESEALED TWICE AND IT WILL NOT HOLD.

I NOTICED THE ISSUE WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. DEALER SAID IT WAS UP TO ME TO REPAIR, HAD TO SHIP THE TOP TO CALIFORNIA FOR A COMPLETE NEW TOP (~ $3K). I LIVE IN FLORIDA. DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A BACK WINDOW FALLING OFF A MOVING CAR IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. ONLY ~ 22K MILES.

- Summary: I OWN A 2006 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE. MY BACK WINDOW IS FALLING OUT AND IT SEEMS THAT CHRYSLER DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE FAULTY ADHESIVE AND FAULTY WORKMANSHIP OF THE CONVERTIBLE TOP. I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE THE GLASS WILL COME OUT AND RESULT IN HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, PEDESTRIAN OR OTHER OBJECT. THIS PROBLEM HAS LEFT THOUSANDS OF CROSSFIRE OWNERS IN A BAD SITUATION. CHRYSLER DID ISSUE A RECALL ON THE 2005'S UNDER TSB 23-035-11REVA BUT NOT FOR ANY OTHER MODEL YEARS. STATE FARM INSURANCE INFORMED ME THE SAME TOP/MANUFACTURER/ADHESIVE IS USED ON ALL CROSSFIRE MODEL YEARS THEREFORE IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER AN INSURANCE CLAIM. I'VE DRIVEN MY CAR 3 TIMES SINCE NOTICING THE WINDOW AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO GET WORSE; BECOMING MORE AND MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE. I WANT TO KNOW WHEN CHRYSLER WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL OF THE FAULTY EQUIPMENT THEY MARKETED AND SOLD TO TRUSTING CONSUMER. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO FORCE THE RECALL ON ALL CROSSFIRE CONVERTIBLE TOPS, NO MATTER WHAT YEAR THEY WERE MANUFACTURED OR WHERE THEY SHIPPED. FAULTY EQUIPMENT IS FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND THE PROBLEM NEEDS TO RECTIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER. I AM ASKING FOR THE HELP FROM THE NHTSA - THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS - THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. UNTIL THEN, MY CAR IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE REAR WINDOW IS HEAT SEALED TO THE COVER. ONLY THE TOP PORTION REMAINS SEALED, THE SIDES AND BOTTOM HAVE SEPARATED. I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH A CHRYSLER CASE WORKER FOR A MONTH TRYING TO GET THE COMPANY TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TOP BUT ONLY GET EMAILS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK REQUESTING THE SAME INFORMATION I HAVE ALREADY PROVIDED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IS NO LONGER A "QUALIFIED DEALERSHIP" WITH NO FURTHER EXPLANATION. I HAVE ASKED FOR A PERSONAL PHONE CALL BUT TO NO AVAIL AT THIS POINT. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD AND I WANT THE COMPANY TO STEP UP AND FIX IT.

I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THE 2005 CROSSFIRE ROADSTER WAS COVERED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THEY WERE NOT COVERING THE 2006. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY IN JULY OF 2014 THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I THEN HAD TO MAKE A TEMPORARY REPAIR FOR $ 150 AND IN SEPTEMBER 2014 HAD TO REPLACE THE TOP FOR $ 2,457.62 AT A SHOP RECOMMENDED BY THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. SO I AM OUT OF POCKET $ 2,607. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AGAIN LAST WEEK 5 23 2015 AND THEY REPLIED THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT BUILT IN 2005 THEY WERE STILL NOT COVERING IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM EXPERIENCED BY NUMEROUS DRIVERS. IF THIS WINDOW WERE TO COME OUT WHILE DRIVING IT COULD SERIOUSLY INJURE OR KILL A PEDESTRIAN OR OTHER DRIVER. CHRYSLER HAS COVERED THE 2005 FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT LATER MODELS. YOU WILL SEE OVER 20 COMPLAINTS ON THE SAFECAR.GOV SITE FROM OTHER DRIVERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT SAME MODEL AND YEAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE WEB ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. I GUESS CHRYSLER AND THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE ARE KILLED BEFORE ACTING.
