2008 Chrysler Crossfire roadster problems
The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, two-seat sports car, marketed by Chrysler and manufactured by Karmann of Germany for the 2004 through 2008 model years.
Developed during the period when Chrysler and Mercedes Benz had merged, known as Daimler Chrysler, the two-seater uses the Mercedes-Benz R170 platform and shares 80% of its components with the first generation SLK. The second generation SLK was built on the R171 platform with model year 2005; the R170 platform was essentially handed down to Chrysler for the Crossfire. Having initially arrived in 2001 as a concept car styled by Eric Stoddard, the Chrysler was further refined by Andrew Dyson before production began in 2003 for 2004 model year sales.
Design
The name "Crossfire" refers to two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides, prominently crossing below the mirrors on the door panels. Conceived during the period of Daimler Chrysler, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.
The Chrysler Crossfire concept car was introduced at the 2001 North American International Auto Show and the production version was unveiled at the 2002 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2004 model "is as faithful a translation from concept to production as any in recent memory." The concept car was designed "to evoke a strong, passionate, emotional response. We had to retain that. We want to polarize our audience—we want people to love it or hate it."
Conceived as a two-seat halo car for the Chrysler brand, the marketing objective was also to make use of available components using a two-seat roadster chassis. The production car shares about 39% of its parts with Mercedes-Benz vehicles and Chrysler dealers were required to invest in special equipment, tools, and parts to be able to market the new luxury model. The rear-wheel-drive Crossfire coupe styling objective was for a "unique, almost sculptural" design.
The Crossfire 's styling includes a wide stance with 19-inch rear wheels and 18-inch front wheels. Automotive journalists compared the Crossfire to American Motors' 1965–1967 AMC Marlin. Noted journalist, Paul Leinert said the "distinctive boat-tail rear end reminds more than one observer of the old Rambler Marlin." For example, Rob Rothwell wrote "... when I first espied the rear lines of the Chrysler Crossfire I was instantly transported back to 1965 and my favorite car of that year, the Rambler Marlin." Motor Trend also compared the "provocative boattail theme" of the 2004 Crossfire's sheetmetal to that of the AMC Marlin fastback. The Crossfire's tail is "formed as the edges of the roof converge into a kind of teardrop shape, leaving the rear fenders to flare out over the rear wheels."
Chrysler said the Crossfire took inspiration from the 1930s art deco period and buildings such as the Chrysler Building. Motor Trend cites vehicle influences from 1930s including Bugattis and the Talbot Lago. Chrysler wanted to once again offer a performance coupe reminiscent of the luxury reputation they enjoyed during the late 1950s to mid-1960s with the Chrysler 300 letter series coupes and convertibles.

Common 2008 Chrysler Crossfire roadster problems
The Chrysler Crossfire Roadster, produced in 2008, is known for various common problems reported by its owners. Here is a list of the most frequently mentioned issues and their details:
- Gear Stick Won't Move:
-
- Problem: The gear stick is stuck in the park position and won't budge.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: This issue is usually caused by a slightly out-of-adjustment brake/gear interlock. Adjusting the assembly can resolve the problem, but it is a complicated job best left to professionals.
-
- Check Engine Light:
-
- Problem: The check engine light is illuminated, but there are no obvious reasons why.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: The most common reason for this issue is a faulty EGR solenoid. However, it is essential to check the check valve first, as it is an easier part to install. If either looks faulty, then replacements can be found on parts lists. False error codes can also cause the check engine light to illuminate, requiring a PCM software update at a Chrysler dealership.
-
- Seat Heating Not Working:
-
- Problem: The seats are no longer getting warm when the seat warmer button is pressed.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: Chrysler has released a special repair kit designed specifically to resolve this issue. These repair kits can be ordered directly from BreakerYard for quick delivery.
-
- Alloy Wheel Corrosion:
-
- Problem: The alloy wheels on this car can corrode, leading to white powder marks, bubbles, or rust.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: If the problem is not too bad, it may be possible to fix it yourself by rubbing down the affected area, treating it, and then repainting the area. However, if the damage is severe, it may be necessary to take the wheels to a specialist for proper repair.
-
- Catalytic Converter Failure:
-
- Problem: The catalytic converter commonly fails early on the Crossfire, causing a rattling noise when starting the engine from cold and pressing the foot on the accelerator.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: Fitting a replacement catalytic converter is the only way to fix this problem.
-
- Headlight Condensation:
-
- Problem: The headlights fill up with condensation inside the lens, particularly on colder mornings.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: There are two options to resolve this issue: drilling small holes at the bottom of the lens to allow excess water to run out or purchasing replacement headlight units at low prices.
-
- Starting Problems:
-
- Problem: If the crankshaft position sensor fails on this car, it can cause starting problems, and the engine management warning light will likely appear on the dashboard.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: Replacing the crankshaft position sensor will resolve this issue.
-
- Airbag Deployment:
-
- Problem: The airbag may deploy for no reason, potentially causing serious injury due to metal fragments inside the airbag.
- Models affected: All models
- Solution: The only solution is to head to a Chrysler dealer, as this issue was the cause of a big recall. Check your car's history to ensure the work has been carried out on your vehicle, and if not, get it done as soon as possible.

Why did the Crossfire fail?
The Crossfire SRT-6 had a factory wing that looked cheap, and out of place, so the exterior styling was divisive, but the interior was where the Crossfire fell apart.

- Summary: I WENT AWAY ON VACATION FOR A WEEK AND LEFT MY 2008 CROSSFIRE AT HOME. THREE DAYS AFTER LEAVING, MY GRANDSON CALLS AND TELLS ME THAT THE REAR WINDSHIELD HAD DETACHED FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP AND WAS LAYING INSIDE THE CAR. - Summary: SUMMARY: THE REAR WINDOW GLASS SEPARATED FROM CONVERTIBLE FABRIC TOP WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. DETAILS: ON 8/13/2016, AT ABOUT NOON, NEAR BERTRAM, TEXAS, ON A HOT CLEAR DAY, I PARKED THE SUBJECT VEHICLE ALONG THE SIDE OF A RESIDENTIAL ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS IN SIGHT THE WHOLE TIME. NOTHING STRUCK OR TOUCHED THE VEHICLE WHILE I TALKED TO NEIGHBORS FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. WHEN I RETURNED, THE REAR WINDOW HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CANVAS ON THE BOTTOM AND SIDES, AND THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDOW WAS RESTING ON THE REAR DECK INSIDE THE CAR. THE WINDOW WAS STILL PRECARIOUSLY ATTACHED ALONG THE TOP. THE WIRES CONNECTING TO THE WINDOW GLASS DEFOGGING ELEMENTS WERE STILL ATTACHED AT THE SIDES. IT APPEARED THE BEAD OF GLUE AROUND THE EDGES HAD FAILED, PERHAPS DUE TO HEAT. IT HAD DETACHED FROM THE FABRIC SIDE OF THE GLUE JOINT. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE BUT THE WINDOW WAS SWINGING AROUND AND HITTING THE CAR BODY, SO I DECIDED IT WAS UNSAFE. I CAREFULLY LOWERED THE TOP INTO THE TRUNK AND CONTINUED HOME. I RETURNED THE TOP TO ITS 'UP' POSITION AND TOOK PHOTOS OF THE SEPARATED WINDOW. IT LOOKED THE SAME AT THAT POINT AS WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT. (PHOTOS INCLUDED.) I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE HAD THE GLUE FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE REAR WINDOW COULD HAVE FLOWN OUT OR BLOWN INWARD FROM THE BACK DRAFT, HITTING THE ROLL BARS AND SHATTERING GLASS ONTO THE DRIVER. ACCORDING TO NATIONAL NEWS, CHRYSLER ISSUED A TSB FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM FOR THE 2005 MODEL YEAR OF THIS VEHICLE IN SOUTHERN STATES (INCLUDING TEXAS) AND IS PROVIDING EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR ONLY THOSE VEHICLES. IT APPEARS THIS PROBLEM IS NOT LIMITED TO MODEL YEAR 2005. ALTHOUGH THAT YEAR MAY HAVE MORE COMPLAINTS SINCE OVER 2/3 OF ALL CONVERTIBLES SOLD OF THIS MODEL WERE SOLD IN 2005. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT THAT WARRANTS A RECALL.

- Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE ROADSTER WHEN I NOTICED A WIND SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. I NOTICED A SEPARATION IN THE REAR WINDOW GLASS FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP. BY THE TIME I ARRIVED HOME THE GLASS HAS SEPARATED MORE THAN HALF WAY FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CROSSFIRE ANYMORE AS I BELIEVE THIS SEPARATION MENTIONED ABOVE TO BE UNSAFE AND COULD POSSIBLY FAIL COMPLETELY AND CAUSE A HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS OR CRASH DURING DRIVING.
