The Chevrolet Spark (Korean: 쉐보레 스파크) is a city car manufactured by General Motors's subsidiary GM Korea from 1998 to 2022. The vehicle was developed by Daewoo and introduced in 1998 as the Daewoo Matiz (Korean: 대우 마티즈). In 2002, General Motors purchased Daewoo Motors, which was marketing the vehicle with several GM marques and nameplates.

The third generation was predominantly marketed under the Chevrolet brand in North America as the Chevrolet Spark and in Australia and New Zealand as the Holden Barina Spark. The fourth generation was launched in 2015, known as the Holden Spark in Australia and New Zealand. It also serves as the basis for the Opel Karl in Europe, Vauxhall Viva in the UK, and VinFast Fadil in Vietnam, the latter being manufactured under license.

A limited-production all-electric version, the Chevrolet Spark EV, was released in the U.S. in selected markets in California and Oregon in June 2013. The Spark EV was the first all-electric passenger car marketed by General Motors since the EV1 was discontinued in 1999, and also the first offered for retail sale by GM (the EV1 was available only on lease).

In the South Korean market, the Spark complies with South Korean "light car" (Korean: 경차, romanized: Gyeongcha) regulations, which regulate overall vehicle dimensions and engine capacity with tax and parking fee benefits.

Production of the Spark at the Changwon, South Korea assembly plant ended in 2022. The plant would instead produce the second-generation Trax.

When they did disconnected it, I noticed that I lost my "CHIME"...for Seat belt, keys left in ignition and lights left on. They reprogrammed the car to the new module, and the radio was working, and chimes were present. Next day, my battery is dead, because of the radio drained it.   • Summary: The secondary hood latch lever problem was discovered in August 2022. I received a letter at the beginning of October 2022. I called to have my vehicle repaired but was advised that the parts were not available. I called again in late February 2023 and the parts were still not available. The recall was issued because the secondary latch striker may become stuck out of position and fail to properly engage. If the striker becomes stuck out of position and both the primary and secondary hood latch fail to engage, the vehicle’s hood may open unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. The last sentence is an understatement to say the least. My daughter drives the Chevy Spark from our home in Beaver Falls, Pa to college in Edinboro, Pa. Approximately a 2 hour drive on Route 79, a major highway for semi trucks from Pa to NY. If the hood opens unexpectedly, there Will be a crash not the risk will be increased. When I asked Chevy about a loaner, I was advised that I could not get 1. I asked if I’m supposed to keep driving since I have no other options, I was advised that I could not get a loaner. I asked for a supervisor to call me back. I was advised that a supervisor would call me back within 24-48 hours. She gave me Case # 9-9494938162. 2 days later, the same women called me back and advised me that I could not get a loaner. I asked why supervisor did not call me back. Said he was not available. I am filing a complaint because it has been 5 months (October 2022) since I received the recall letter and it’s been 7 months since the problem has been known (August 2022). The contact stated his daughter was in an accident because the part was not available from August 2022 to at least the date of his daughter’s accident on 6/2/23. The hood opened while she was driving 65 mph on the Pa turnpike. It has now been almost 2 months since the accident and Chevy reached out to his wife and advised her the claim would be turned down because of 2 prior accidents that the vehicle was involved in prior to owning the vehicle. He wants some information on how to proceed.

Even when making a turn in front of another car across traffic my car has turned off in the middle of crossing the street and I almost got hit twice now. This affects the cruise control coming on as well the speedometer fluctuates back and forth the whole time I'm driving. This happens every day and at most times when I'm coming to a stop or coming out of a stop. I just have to test the gas before I make a turn in front of oncoming traffic to cross the road to make sure that I have power and then I go as fast as I can across so that hopefully I'll gain enough speed so that the car doesn't shut off again. So usually it's every time I come to a red light which is at least at the very least from my work to home is four lights and at every light it will do it. Oftentimes I cross traffic and it will do it. I just had to be very careful

I know other Chevrolet models have had key recalls for the same reason, so I am not sure why they have not recalled the Chevy Spark keys because they are the same format as other models. It would be convenient if they separated the fob and the key. Currently my key is super glued because the dealership has this key on back order. I just replaced this key two years ago and it just keeps breaking.

I HAVE HAD MY CAR BACK FOR 2 WEEKS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, TODAY WHILE 35 MILES AWAY FROM HOME EVERY SINGLE LIGHT WAS FLASHING ON THE DASH BOARD.   • Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Spark EV vehicles. The secondary hood latch may corrode at the latch pivot, preventing the hood latch from properly engaging.
  • Consequence: A hood latch failure can result in the vehicle's hood opening unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the hood striker assembly and hood latch assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 12, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is A222359300. This recall supersedes and expands NHTSA recall number 14V-593. Vehicles previously repaired under 14V-593 will need to have the new remedy performed.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chevrolet Sonic and Trax, and 2013-2015 Spark vehicles equipped with a Bring Your Own Media radio. The affected radios may fail to provide an audible warning chime when the driver fails to fasten their seatbelt or if the driver leaves the key in the ignition. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 208 "Occupant Crash Protection" and 114 "Theft Protection."
  • Consequence: Without audible indicators, the driver may not fasten their seatbelt, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the radio software, free of charge. The recall began on July 22, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 45340.

The affected radios may fail to provide an audible warning chime when the driver, after turning off the ignition and leaving the key in the cylinder, waits 10 minutes or longer to open the door. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114 "Theft Protection."
  • Consequence: Without audible indicators, the driver may leave the key in the ignition, increasing the risk of theft.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the radio software, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 17130.

The secondary hood latch may prematurely corrode at the latch pivot causing the striker to get stuck out of position, preventing it from properly engaging the hood latch.
  • Consequence: If the secondary hood latch corrodes causing the latch to be stuck out of position, and the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the striker with a new part which has superior corrosion protection, free of charge. The recall began on January 7, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14456.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Buick Encore vehicles manufactured April 10, 2013, to May 8, 2013, and Chevrolet Spark vehicles manufactured December 30, 2012, to March 1, 2013. In the affected vehicles, an improper weld on the passenger side front air bag inflator may result in the air bag not deploying.
  • Consequence: If the air bag does not to deploy in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury to the front passenger.

Occasionally, it may emit a less-than-pleasant odor, but that just adds to its charm. Plus, the keys always stay in the ignition, which is a nice touch. While it may have a few quirks, it's still a reliable car that will get you where you need to go. And hey, at least it's not a Nissan Altima with their higher mpg on the highway. It's worth noting that there is a recall on the airbags, but the dealership will take care of that for you. Overall, this car is a great choice for those who value character and reliability over gas mileage.

    Hi there! I just wanted to share that my Spark has been a reliable car for me, even with 135k miles on it! While the A/C did stop working last summer, I plan on getting it fixed soon. So far, I've only had to replace the battery, tires, coolant reservoir, and brakes. I do want to mention that the resale value of these cars isn't very high - I paid $16k for it, but now it's worth about $4k. Thanks for listening!

    Avoid purchasing this product. The spare kit is priced at an exorbitant five hundred dollars, and in the event of a flat tire, you may be left waiting for up to 90 minutes for a tow truck. Additionally, the vehicle's power may be compromised when driving uphill with the air conditioner on. These issues suggest a lack of reliability and value in this product.

    I'm not happy with the AC, at all.If Chevy gets the AC up to where it needs to be, I'll update all ratings to "5."As it stands, I'm in a city with 100+ temps that span three months in time. As I ran my sales calls, today, it was 95-101 outside.I kept shifting around in my seat to get the air to blow on me and it wasn't cool enough, to boot. The driver's side vent is just not good at getting the air onto the driver, even with the other three vents closed.In stop and go traffic, the compressor seems to kick out and the air is then even warmer.Not cool, literally or figuratively. Chevy has me scheduled for 7AM, tomorrow.I'll get a loaner. Lemon Law may be invoked.Stay tuned.

    I bought this car in December 2012 because my 1997 SUV was a gas guzzling beast. Although I appreciate the much improved gas mileage, I sometimes miss my SUV and have some regrets about my purchase. I think the mpg could be better, especially since I drive on the highway six days a week and only average 31 mpg. On the bright side, the styling is awesome. Mine is bright green, and I love how the color is incorporated inside as well. Unfortunately, there is no CD player, which is a bit of a bummer. Living in NW PA, we get a lot of snow, and if the road is not plowed, I tend to slide all over. If there's more than a couple of inches, I get stuck. It also shakes violently over 70mph, which can be a bit unnerving, and I've hit my head a few times despite being only 5'9

    When you pay only $9000 to a dealer for a 3-year old car with only 51,000 miles, you might not expect much. However, I have been pleasantly surprised. For one thing, it's the tightest car I've ever owned. When shutting the door, you have to give it a good pull because the air compression resists a full latching. You get the feeling that if you drove it into the lake it would float for a half hour. The little motor growls when accelerating, and you have to be patient on long uphill grades, but it's fun to drive. I'm sitting up higher than in the old Civic, and with new Kumho Ecsta tires, the road grip in the rain is sure and solid. The entertainment system is intuitive, full-featured, and good quality for such a cheap car. It's not a great car, but so far, it's an excellent bargain. On the first road trip (mixed freeway and two-lane), the mileage was over 39 mpg. It gets well over 40 between 35 and 55 but drops off over 60. By the way, the color of the car is rare (2013 only) 'Techno Pink,' and it's amazing how many comments we get on it. I'm happy enough with it that I bought a new 2017 Spark for my daughter in March when they had the $2000 incentive going. The 2017 is overall much improved, but the styling is rather bland by comparison. The 2013 is Cheshire Cat; the 2017 is Angry Birds.

    This is a great little car that gets fantastic gas mileage. The front interior is roomy, but the back is not as spacious. The comfort level is average, but it is perfect for a work commuter vehicle. It hits the mark! Please note that I paid $1,350 cash for the vehicle, all taxes and fees included, but I also traded my 2005 Dodge Dakota towards the car. The asking price was $6,888 before negotiating a lower price and then subtracting my trade-in.

    The ride can be a bit rough on bumps. However, I think that if the tires had more height or space between the rim and the road, it would ride better. Other than that, it seems to be okay so far. I haven't owned it long enough to give a full review.
