Chevrolet Silverado 3500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-28
- VIN: 2GC4YUEYXR1
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: While traveling with a 5th wheel camper (Grand Design), that has solar panels the brake controller stops providing a connection to the trailer brakes. This is a know problem of the 2024 Chevrolets and so far there is not a fix that I know of. This is a big big safety issue because the trailer is heavy and hard to stop. The documentation from Chevrolet states the issue is once the battery charges and has a higher voltage than the truck battery it will surge the system and deactivate the braking system on the camper. This also hold true when the camper battery is too low, again the truck battery will surge the system and deactivate the braking system on the camper.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-25
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-19
- VIN: 1GC4YVEY5LF
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: We tow a 2024 Grand Design Solitude 310GK with our 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 diesel truck. We are getting frequent but intermittent loss of our trailer brakes during towing. As you can imagine this is a serious safety issue. We will be towing and receive a message on the display "Trailer Brakes Disconnected" then typically followed by "Service Trailer Brakes". This has been happening more frequently over the past 3 months. Imagine driving down a hill with a 15K pound rv pushing you and there are NO brakes on the 5th wheel. It is extremely scary and dangerous. I've researched on the internet and Facebook and there seems to be a "Technical Bulletin" from GM Bulletin No.: 23-NA-149 Date: September, 2023 recommending the replacement of the Trailer Brake Control Module. I've called to have the dealer replace our brake control module but it is not covered because it is a "Bulletin" and not a "recall". This is absurd and the manufacturer should take care of this known issue.

The transmission position sensor failed just out of warranty, causing the truck to shut off while driving at 40K. Despite seeking assistance from GM, no help was provided. However, after conducting research online, it was discovered that a bad crank position sensor was the root of the problem, which was subsequently replaced to resolve the issue. It is worth noting that both problems have been known to occur in other trucks. Additionally, the exhaust stud broke and the flange warped, while the tailgate latch rusted inside the gate and no longer catches. Although the transmission is slipping after stop and go, it is important to highlight that Toyota has gone three times as far with no such issues.

The front end of this truck can be quite difficult to clean and may not be as visually appealing as the Ford. A different front bumper could greatly improve its appearance. The wheels on this Chevy may look a bit cheap, which is typical for the brand. While the rugged look is present, the powerful Duramax engine is overpriced and doesn't offer as much horsepower or torque as the Ford or Dodge. The interior may be slightly behind the times, with a dash that looks the same as it always has. Chevy owners may agree that it's a bit plain and could use some updating, like the new F-150 or Dodge. The price is also quite high compared to the Ford, which is not only lower priced but also stronger, more powerful, and better looking.

Hi there! I noticed that the truck has had 5 owners. It also seems like there are some issues with the seats and clear coat, but it's still in good condition overall. Based on my assessment, the wholesale value of the truck might be around $5000. Lastly, I wanted to mention that it has a 5-speed transmission. Let me know if you have any questions!

Personal and business use. Duramax Diesel. Uncontrollable rpms while towing. Truck shut down to a crawl at freeway speed. Had to be towed to dealer. 7 days later, truck was repaired. Final analysis was a wiring harness failure. Has happened several time to date and will be seeking counsel to rescind my contract for a vehicle that I cannot depend on.
