The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.

In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.

The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

THE MECHANIC CALLED A GM TECHNICIAN WHO FAXED DOCUMENT #724859 ON A RECALL COVERING HIGH/LOW/HIGH ABS BRAKE ANOMALY #99046B - 5/16/2000 AND I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE FACTORY DIRECT ON THE SAFETY ISSUE TO HAVE RESOLVED. THE DOCUMENT STATED HOW TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE ABS WAS ORIGINAL TO THE CAR OR HAD BEEN REPLACED IN THE RECALL. IT WAS DETERMINED BY LOCAL MECHANIC TO BE THE ORIGINAL. I CALLED THE FACTORY AND GAVE THEM ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION AND WAS IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE RECALL ENDED 12/1/2002 AND I COULD NOT BE HELPED. AFTER ASKING TO HAVE THIS RECONSIDERED BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY ISSUE INVOLVED I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD, AND THEN A DAY OR SO LATER WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CONFIRMED AND THE ABS SYSTEM CHECKED TO SEE IF IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED IN THE RECALL. SINCE EVERYONE IN FRONT SUDDENLY STOPPED CONTACT'S VEHICLE HAD TO MOVE OVER, WENT ON THE MEDIAN IN THE HIGHWAY TO KEEP FROM HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT AND PASSED ABOUT 40-50 VEHICLES. BEGAN DOWN SHIFTING, AND FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY REPAIRED BOTH BRAKE LINES. CONTACT KNEW SOMEONE THAT OWNED A 1996 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND HAD SAME PROBLEM, BRAKE LINE BROKE AND VEHICLE WENT INTO A WALL. ALSO, KNEW A RETIRED MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH GM ABS BRAKES. THE BACK BRAKES HAD TO BE ADJUSTED VERY TIGHTLY TO HAVE BRAKE PRESSURE. THE PROBLEM, THE ADJUSTORS ARE SHOVING THE SHOES TOO TIGHT AGAINST THE DRUMS, CAUSING THEM TO DRAG, GLAZING THE SHOES, & AFTER PERIODS OF TIME, BURNING UP THE SHOES, WARPING THE DRUMS. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE SHOES & DRUMS AN AVERAGE OF EVERY 30,000 MILES. TAKEN THE TRUCK BACK SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO RESULTS OR PROBLEM ACKNOWLEDGMENT. THEY CLEAN THEM, ADJUST THEM, CHARGE ME, SHIP ME OUT THE DOOR. WHEN THE ROADWAY IS WET OR SNOWY, THE REAR BRAKES CONSTANTLY LOCK UP. THE FRONT PADS GO AN AVERAGE OF 80,000 MILES WITHOUT NEEDING CHANGED. YOU ASK FOR NUMBER OF FAILURES. THE BRAKES FAIL DURING RAINS, SNOW, ETC?     If you enjoy smaller trucks, this is the perfect one for you. It offers more interior room than a Ranger, but if you're used to a Blazer, a two-seater pickup might not be as exciting. It's generally reliable, but it's important to keep an eye on the alternator, A/C, and belts. The engine is quite strong and likes to get moving, although it may need a little encouragement. If you're a fan of mini trucks, this one is a standard among the crowd. It's also very fuel-efficient if you frequently drive on the highway. However, keep in mind that it may not be suitable if you get easily bored with just one friend for company.

    I have owned over 20 vehicles in my life, but unfortunately, this one has been the worst so far (and I owned a Pinto). I bought this truck new - LS 4x4, auto, cruise etc. I maintain the vehicle very well and don't drive it hard at all. Unfortunately, some things have broken under warranty (towed to dealer 5 times under warranty) such as the battery, radio, fuel pump, door misadjusted and wore paint off jamb, front end part wore and car wouldn't track straight. And then, under my cost, I had to replace the fuel pump for $725, oil cooler line for $600, intake manifold gasket for $600, and hydraulic lifter failure for $650. All service parts are expensive (it's cheaper to fix my BMW 540). I am disappointed with my experience and will consider other options in the future.

    I can understand that some people may have mixed feelings about the S-10, but personally, I absolutely love mine. While it's true that there are some minor issues such as limited space and slightly uncomfortable seats, the truck's stunning appearance more than makes up for it. Additionally, the 4.3 vortec engine that came with mine is incredibly powerful and can easily compete with any stock v8 I've come across. That being said, I've heard that a Chevy 350 swap can work wonders for this already impressive small truck.

It sounds like you've made some great modifications to it with the intake, bed liner, headers, and chip, not to mention the 3 inch lower in the back and front. Overall, it's a really nice truck!
