2021 Audi S5 problems

audi logo

The Audi S5 is one of two high-performance variants of Audi's A5. It is also the coupé, cabriolet, and five-door fastback sedan versions of the fourth-generation (B8) Audi S4 saloon and estate models.

Like all Audi "S" cars, they are only available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, here in S5 using a Torsen-based centre diff system.

Most versions of the S5 are manufactured at Audi's plant in Ingolstadt, Germany; they are available as a coupé, cabriolet, and five-door sportback, which was previously not available in North America until the 2018 model year, which was released in the United States in mid 2017. The cabriolets are built at Audi's factory in Neckarsulm, Germany.

Common 2021 Audi S5 problems

The Audi S5, a luxury vehicle available in various shapes and sizes, has been a consistent and high-performing model since its introduction. However, like any vehicle, it is not immune to problems. Here are some common issues reported by owners of the 2021 Audi S5:

  • Engine Not Starting: Some 2021 Audi S5 owners have reported issues with the engine not starting. One owner mentioned that their car wouldn't start even after trying to jump the battery. The dealership initially suspected a faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor, which was replaced. However, the problem persisted, and the dealership replaced the Engine Control Module, but the issue remained unresolved.
  • Electrical Problems: Another common issue reported by Audi S5 owners is electrical problems. One owner mentioned having crackling Bang and Olufsen speakers and a rattling sunroof. These issues can be frustrating for owners, as they can affect the overall driving experience and the vehicle's value.
  • Gearbox/Clutch Problems: Some Audi S5 owners have reported issues with the gearbox and clutch. One owner mentioned that their car had a new gearbox fitted at 12,000 miles and was off the road for three weeks. Current issues include a leaking headlight and crackling speakers again.
  • Suspension Problems: Suspension problems are another common issue reported by Audi S5 owners. These issues can affect the vehicle's handling and ride quality, making it uncomfortable to drive.
  • Transmission Jerks: While not specific to the 2021 model year, transmission jerks have been reported as a common problem with the Audi S5. The most reported problem is with the 2011 Audi S5 for transmission jerks, with an average cost to fix of $3,200 and an average mileage of 38,000 mi.
  • Maintenance and Small Failures: While the engine and transmission of the Audi S5 are generally reliable, maintenance and small failures can be problematic. Water pumps and thermostats are known to leak, and services such as oil changes and transmission fluid changes can be expensive due to the high cost of parts.

In conclusion, while the Audi S5 is generally a reliable and high-performing vehicle, it is not immune to problems. Common issues reported by owners include engine not starting, electrical problems, gearbox/clutch problems, suspension problems, transmission jerks, and maintenance and small failures. It is essential to follow the recommended maintenance schedule closely and address any issues promptly to ensure the vehicle's longevity and reliability.

Negative 2021 Audi S5 car reviews

  1. Sage D'Amore 2024-10-04

It's worth noting that some features that come standard on Japanese competitors are only available as extra cost options on the Audi. While the base price is attractive, getting the S5 out the door can make it a less appealing value proposition. Additionally, some dealers may be less willing to offer discounts on this model, which can make it harder to find a good deal. That being said, it may be worth exploring other options to find the best value for your needs.

  2. Garett Roberts 2024-09-16

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my S5 cabrio. I had a lot of fun driving it for 15 days, but unfortunately on day 16, the transmission broke after around 600 miles. It was a bit of a struggle to make it home, but thankfully I did. I've been waiting for almost a week now to have it replaced, but I'm still hopeful that everything will be sorted out soon. While I do have some regrets about buying it, I think leasing might have been a better option for me. Thanks for listening!

  3. Sebastian Mayert 2024-05-01

Driving this car was great. However, the trim at the bottom of the door hits you in the bottom of your calf when entering, which is a major problem. Unfortunately, this issue kept me from buying the Audi S5.

Positive 2021 Audi S5 car reviews

  1. Patrick Beatty 2024-11-26

This car handles well in all drive modes, looks sharp and is very comfortable. I'm only 5' tall and a lot of cars are made for larger people, but this car fits me perfectly! I absolutely love my new car.

  2. Price Durgan 2024-11-07

1 year in... solid, quick, great audio system, good electronics, and more. For the money, it would be tough to beat this car. 2/23/2022: Purchased it new. This car is absolutely terrific! It's solid, has good power, handles well for its weight, and has excellent electronics and audio. It's also very comfortable and can easily accommodate four actual adults, as well as a couple of golf bags and push carts. This car is the most fun I've had since my 1993 rx7, and it's even more practical!

  3. Brice Douglas 2024-09-06

I absolutely love this vehicle! It's both fun to drive and practical, with plenty of trunk space (even more with the rear seats down) and a power lift gate that makes accessing the boot a breeze, even when your hands are full. Switching from comfort mode to dynamic mode completely transforms the driving experience, making it perfect for both daily commutes and weekend adventures on back roads. Plus, it's packed with all the latest tech and safety features you could ever need. The only thing missing is wireless Apple Car Play, but that's a minor detail. I plan on keeping this car for a long time, or at least until I find the perfect RS5.

  4. Landen Leffler 2024-08-22

I loved my 2010 version of this car, despite the repairs costing me more than owning a Camry for 18 years! So, I decided to upgrade to the newer version with the turbo V6 instead of the older supercharged V6. The difference in the feel of the car is dramatic. The interior has also been significantly upgraded in terms of the quality of materials and user interface (I especially love the Virtual Cockpit). I'm just hoping that I won't experience a 'mechatronic control module' failure at 40k miles like last time, as it was quite an expensive fix. Nevertheless, I wouldn't want to drive anything else right now. It's the perfect car for enjoying the sunny weather in California.

  5. Ben Heller 2024-08-12

The newly redesigned Audi S5 is an absolute blast to drive. It's so good that I traded in my 2017 S6 for it!
