2007 Chevrolet Malibu maxx problems
The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from model years 1964–1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle, becoming its own model line in 1978. Originally a rear-wheel drive intermediate, GM revived the Malibu nameplate as a front-wheel-drive car in 1997.
Named after the coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu was marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation introduced globally. It is currently the only sedan offered by Chevrolet in the U.S.
First generation (Chevelle Malibu, 1964)
The first Malibu was a top-line subseries of the mid-sized Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972. Malibus were generally available in a full range of bodystyles including a four-door sedan, two-door Sport Coupe hardtop, convertible and two-seat station wagon. Interiors were more lavish than lesser Chevelle 300 and 300 Deluxe models thanks to patterned cloth and vinyl upholstery (all-vinyl in convertibles and station wagons), deep-twist carpeting, deluxe steering wheel and other items. The Malibu SS performance package was available only as a two-door Sport Coupe hardtop or convertible and added bucket seats, center console (with optional four-speed manual or Powerglide transmissions), engine gauges and special wheelcovers, and offered with any six-cylinder or V8 engine offered in other Chevelles - with the top option being a 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) in 1964.
For 1965, Malibus and other Chevelles received new grilles and revised tail sections and had the exhaust pipes replaced but carried over the same basic styling and bodystyles from 1964. The Malibu and Malibu SS models continued as before with the SS featuring a blacked-out grille and special wheelcovers. Top engine option was now a 350 hp (261 kW; 355 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8. 201 of the 1965 Malibu SS cars got Regular Production Option (RPO) Z16, which include a heavily modified chassis and Chevy's new 375 horsepower 396 cubic inch V8. All were hardtops, although rumors persist that one convertible was built.
The Malibu SS was replaced in 1966 by a new Chevelle SS-396 series that included a big-block 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8 engine (Canadian market did not receive the SS396 but marketed the former Malibu SS nameplate until January 1967 when it was phased out), heavy duty suspension and other performance equipment. Other SS-396 equipment was similar to Malibu Sport Coupes and convertibles including an all-vinyl bench seat. Bucket seats and console with floor shift were now optional on the SS and for 1966 with the SS now denoting a car with a big-block engine, the bucket seats became a new option on the regular Malibu Sport Coupe and convertible, upon which any six-cylinder or small-block V8 could be ordered. Also new for 1966 was the Chevelle Malibu four-door Sport Sedan hardtop. Styling revisions on all 1966 Chevelles including more rounded styling similar to the full-sized Chevrolets with sail panels and tunneled rear windows featured on two-door hardtop coupes.
For 1967, the same assortment of bodystyles were continued with styling changes similar to all other Chevelles including a new grille and revised tail section with taillights that wrapped around to the side. New this year was a Chevelle Malibu Concours station wagon with simulated woodgrain exterior side panel trim. Front disc brakes were a new option along with a stereo 8-track tape player. The same assortment of drivetrains carried over from 1966 with the top 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8 dropped from 350 to 325 hp (261 to 242 kW; 355 to 330 PS).

STEERING PROBLEM

- VIN: 1g1zs58f67f
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: My vehicle is experiencing an issue with its power steering system that causes the wheel to shake uncontrollably and lock up sometimes when I am driving it. When I first got it inspected at a mechanic, they said that there was a recall for this exact issue for cars with my same make and model, so I should go to the dealer to get it fixed for free. The dealer told me that I was not eligible for free service, so I had to pay out of pocket to get the issue fixed with my mechanic. However, the issue has come back and the dealer is estimating about $2000 to fix this issue. I've already put out over $1000 to fix this issue, and being that the problem with my car is the exact reason why cars of the same year, make, and model were recalled, my car was clearly one of the affected vehicles. Therefore, the dealer needs to pay for the repair of the car so that it can be back on the road safely.

2007 Chevrolet Malibu maxx recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu maxx.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
- Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
- Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
- Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

This vehicle is truly exceptional, with impressive engine power and a wide range of options to choose from. The seats and steering wheel are beautifully accented with contrasting stitching, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design. Not only is it versatile, but it also boasts outstanding performance and fuel economy, averaging about 22 MPG with mostly highway driving. This is a testament to its superior engineering, as the 2007 model is only rated at 24 MPG highway. Even the Laser Blue color is stunning, although it may be difficult to match if you require paint work. In the 1.5 years that I've owned this vehicle, I've only had to replace a burnt out taillight bulb, which is a testament to its reliability. I did make one modification, however, by replacing the mesh sunroof deflector with the factory sunroof deflector from the '05 Malibu, which I found to be more to my liking.

I recently purchased the Maxx and I'm absolutely loving it! Compared to my previous 2003 Malibu, this car is a significant improvement and feels much better built. I considered the Impalas, but I really wanted something smaller and the Maxx was the perfect fit. The power is impressive and it rides and handles great. Although the previous owner put performance tires on it, I'm not sure if I will keep them. I'm particularly pleased that ABS and traction control come as standard equipment. The interior space is also amazing - I was even able to fit two bikes in it without needing to buy a bike rack. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase so far.

Hi there! I just wanted to share a story about my dad's car. He bought a base model (LS V6) MAXX back in 2010 with 41,000 miles on it. Fast forward to 2021, and we still have it with an impressive 418,000 miles! Sure, it's rusted out underneath the doors, and the paint has seen better days, but all the structural parts of the body are still rock solid, and it still has its original engine. I really wish cars were still made this well. Anyway, I know this might sound silly, but I just wanted to remind you to treat your car the way you want it to treat you. Thanks for listening!

I strongly advise against purchasing GM products. Despite being under warranty, they refused to approve the repair of a rattling noise in the steering column, which was extremely frustrating. The dealer informed me that GM considers this a common issue with the Malibu Maxx and will not provide a fix. As someone who changes cars every three years, I will no longer be considering GM vehicles. It is disappointing that GM does not honour its warranty commitments.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new back in 2006 and it has been amazing! The seats are so comfortable, especially on long trips. While it's not a sports car, it definitely has plenty of power and handles really well. I opted for the LTZ trim level because I wanted a few extra gadgets like HomeLink that weren't available on the cheaper trims. The gas mileage is not the best, but it's definitely not bad for a car of this size and power. I usually get in the low to mid 20's in mixed driving, and around 29-30 on the interstate going as fast as I can. The best part is that it has been super reliable! I haven't had any problems in the 3 and a half years that I've owned it.

I recently purchased this car despite my friends' advice to go for an American brand. Unfortunately, I have experienced major reliability issues from the start. For instance, the body control module failed after only three weeks, which could have resulted in a major loss of all electrical functions at high speed. Additionally, I have had a negative experience with the customer service, which was not only unhelpful but also rude. The steering is barely adequate and the brakes are slow, which can be dangerous. Although there are some good features about this car, overall it has been a disaster, and I have found GM as a supporting company to be a nightmare. This experience has given me insight into why they are going broke.

The steering of my car has been making a clunking noise since about 9000 miles, and despite bringing it to the dealer at least 9 times, they claimed they could not reproduce the issue. However, once the warranty expired, they were suddenly able to reproduce the issue. Unfortunately, GM has refused to repair the issue free of charge, despite my complaints over the past 3 years. It is disappointing that many others are experiencing the same issue with the same results, and while there were service bulletins for the 2004-2006 Maxx with the same problem, GM has refused to issue one for the 2007. It is important for GM to address this issue before it leads to any accidents. Additionally, there have been other problems with the car. Overall, I would not recommend this car.

I recently purchased this car at a great price, but unfortunately, I have encountered some issues with the steering column, brake rotors, steering rack, and struts. While it has been frustrating to deal with these problems, I am confident that I can fix them. I have had some experience with older cars and their steering and suspension systems, but I am determined to make this car work. Although there have been some concerns about these issues with GM cars, I am hopeful that they will address them in the future. Overall, I am still happy with my purchase and look forward to resolving these issues.

My husband and I bought this car a little over a year ago, but unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to our expectations. We were hoping for a cute and responsible hatchback from an American-made car company that would give us great fuel economy, but we've only been getting 21mpg. The 6-cylinder engine doesn't seem to have much power, and the handling is poor with an overbearing torque-steer that can be dangerous. Overall, we've been disappointed with this car and wouldn't recommend it.
