Chevrolet Malibu maxx problems

The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from model years 1964–1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle, becoming its own model line in 1978. Originally a rear-wheel drive intermediate, GM revived the Malibu nameplate as a front-wheel-drive car in 1997.
Named after the coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu was marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation introduced globally. It is currently the only sedan offered by Chevrolet in the U.S.
First generation (Chevelle Malibu, 1964)
The first Malibu was a top-line subseries of the mid-sized Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972. Malibus were generally available in a full range of bodystyles including a four-door sedan, two-door Sport Coupe hardtop, convertible and two-seat station wagon. Interiors were more lavish than lesser Chevelle 300 and 300 Deluxe models thanks to patterned cloth and vinyl upholstery (all-vinyl in convertibles and station wagons), deep-twist carpeting, deluxe steering wheel and other items. The Malibu SS performance package was available only as a two-door Sport Coupe hardtop or convertible and added bucket seats, center console (with optional four-speed manual or Powerglide transmissions), engine gauges and special wheelcovers, and offered with any six-cylinder or V8 engine offered in other Chevelles - with the top option being a 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) in 1964.
For 1965, Malibus and other Chevelles received new grilles and revised tail sections and had the exhaust pipes replaced but carried over the same basic styling and bodystyles from 1964. The Malibu and Malibu SS models continued as before with the SS featuring a blacked-out grille and special wheelcovers. Top engine option was now a 350 hp (261 kW; 355 PS) 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8. 201 of the 1965 Malibu SS cars got Regular Production Option (RPO) Z16, which include a heavily modified chassis and Chevy's new 375 horsepower 396 cubic inch V8. All were hardtops, although rumors persist that one convertible was built.
The Malibu SS was replaced in 1966 by a new Chevelle SS-396 series that included a big-block 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8 engine (Canadian market did not receive the SS396 but marketed the former Malibu SS nameplate until January 1967 when it was phased out), heavy duty suspension and other performance equipment. Other SS-396 equipment was similar to Malibu Sport Coupes and convertibles including an all-vinyl bench seat. Bucket seats and console with floor shift were now optional on the SS and for 1966 with the SS now denoting a car with a big-block engine, the bucket seats became a new option on the regular Malibu Sport Coupe and convertible, upon which any six-cylinder or small-block V8 could be ordered. Also new for 1966 was the Chevelle Malibu four-door Sport Sedan hardtop. Styling revisions on all 1966 Chevelles including more rounded styling similar to the full-sized Chevrolets with sail panels and tunneled rear windows featured on two-door hardtop coupes.
For 1967, the same assortment of bodystyles were continued with styling changes similar to all other Chevelles including a new grille and revised tail section with taillights that wrapped around to the side. New this year was a Chevelle Malibu Concours station wagon with simulated woodgrain exterior side panel trim. Front disc brakes were a new option along with a stereo 8-track tape player. The same assortment of drivetrains carried over from 1966 with the top 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8 dropped from 350 to 325 hp (261 to 242 kW; 355 to 330 PS).

- Model: Chevrolet Malibu maxx 2007
- Report Received Date: 2014-05-14
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
- Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. My Maxx just turned six years old with 61k on the dial. I know it might seem like I'm spoiling it with new tires so soon after replacing the battery, front brake rotors, and front ball joints, but I want to make sure it stays in top shape. The DIC threw a 'Power Steering' message the day the battery lost its cranking power, but thankfully it hasn't happened again. At five years, the driver's seat developed an annoying squeak, but I was able to fix it by removing the seat and greasing the mounts. I decided not to replace one of the rear skylight shades after receiving a $130+ estimate for replacement, which I mentioned in my three-year update. Overall, the Maxx has been a reliable and comfortable car that hasn't given me much trouble outside of wear items. Although some of these items can be annoying and expensive, I still enjoy driving it.

I drive my Maxx 120 miles a day and I really enjoy it. It handles great, is comfortable, and I get 29 miles to a gallon. It has style and my coworkers really like it. Some of them have even gotten one for themselves. It's a great unit. I wish more people would give it a try. I'm sure they would love it just like I do.

Firstly, let me address some misconceptions about this car. The criticisms of the steering, engine, and interior are simply not true. The electric steering is excellent, adjusting to vehicle speed and providing all the feedback of a hydraulic unit. I have driven many cars in my life and notice no difference. The engine is just as quiet and smooth as the V6 in my mom's Lexus RX300. While the LT model has cloth interior instead of leather, it is just as stylish as my work mate's Accord LX. It may be workaday, but for a mid-line interior, it has everything the others do. Additionally, this car handles and brakes exceptionally well. Don't be fooled by the press - this car is every bit as good as its Japanese competition.

The exterior may not be the most attractive, but the ride is definitely comfortable. Although the gas mileage was disappointing, it's still a great car overall. I would definitely consider buying another one, but since I only buy a new car every ten years, who knows if they'll still be making them!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I purchased it for around 30k and it was a lease turn-in, so I knew it was well taken care of by the previous owner. As an American car enthusiast, I've always been a fan of Chevy and this car did not disappoint. I was considering a Mazda 3 hatch, but the smooth ride and impressive power of this car, especially with the SS package, won me over. Plus, it has plenty of space to fit my bicycles without needing a rack. Thanks for reading!

This vehicle has had multiple issues that have required several visits to the shop for repairs. Despite my efforts to keep up with maintenance, the problems persist. The engine has developed a knock at only 49,000 miles, which is unacceptable. Additionally, the front end shakes after recently replacing the rotors and brakes. It is clear that this car is a lemon and the dealers have not been able to fix the problems correctly.

Vehicle year: 2007
I purchased my 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx SS brand new and unfortunately, I had to take it to the shop multiple times in the past 9 years. At 30 miles, I started getting an engine misfire code which persisted until the 100,000 mile mark when the engine failed. Cylinder 2, 4 and 6 were damaged due to a misfire code in cylinders 2, 4 and 6. Every time I took the car into the dealership that I bought the car from, I was told that I didn't drive it hard enough and that my fuel injectors were dirty and had a build-up of carbon. Unfortunately, Chevy wouldn't recall the motor or do anything to fix it. The braking system was also a bit of a letdown. The stock braking system was too small for the car to begin with, according to the second dealership that I went to because the first dealership lost their Chevy dealership status. In the first 4 years, I replaced the rotors 4 times after having each set turned and resurfaced due to warping. After taking it to the second dealership and paying for the correct size brakes to be installed, they never warped again. Unfortunately, Chevy did nothing to resolve the problem. The rattle in the dash had nothing to do with the dash or the heater. It was the windshield! Poor factory installation. I replaced the windshield when a good size rock hit me on the freeway and after the new windshield was installed there was no more rattle. Yes, this car was a super fun, fast car when it wasn't in the shop or leaving me stranded. I should have parked it across the street from the first dealership with a giant lemon and a sign that listed all the problems that Chevy was unwilling or unknowledgeable to fix. For anyone that says well you didn't maintain it correctly, I call BS. I put nothing but the best oil and gas into that car and followed all the factory recommendations for service. The car had extremely low mileage for a 9-year-old car that was babied in every way except when it came to the throttle!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Maxx SS that I bought back in Jan. 2013. The dealership really emphasized the low mileage of just 48000 miles, which was a big selling point for me. Although I did ask for some information on its history, all they gave me was a page that explained the oil changes. I had a feeling that there might be some repairs needed, but I was hoping for the best. Unfortunately, I've been having an issue with the driver's side front tire wearing out much faster than the others. Even with different types of tires, it still wears out in less than 20000 miles. It's frustrating, but I still love the car and how it handles. I just don't drive it as much as I would like to. Thanks for listening!

This car has had some issues, but I have taken great care of it. Despite some minor setbacks such as broken levers and a malfunctioning trunk release, I have made the necessary repairs to keep it in top condition. The driver's side seat frame did break at 2 welds, but I was able to replace it with a high-quality part. The DVD player may have stopped working, but I have made sure to keep up with regular maintenance such as alignments. Overall, this car is still a reliable and well-maintained vehicle.

I've owned this car for almost three years now and I must say, it has been a great ride. I fell in love with its sporty look, large and comfortable interior, and huge storage ability. Although there have been a few minor issues, they have not affected my overall satisfaction with the vehicle. Unfortunately, I have experienced a rattle in the front dash since day one, which has been quite annoying. Despite having it checked by Chevy mechanics, the problem persists. I also find the brakes to be underpowered for the car and require frequent changes. Additionally, my sunroof has been acting up lately and requires manual guidance to close when open. However, I do have the larger 3.9 v-6 engine, which provides extra performance, albeit at the cost of fuel economy. Overall, I still love my car and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and spacious ride.
