2020 Chevrolet Impala problems

chevrolet logo

The Chevrolet Impala (/ɪmˈpælə, -ˈpɑːlə/) is a full-size car that was built by Chevrolet for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. The Impala was Chevrolet's popular flagship passenger car and was among the better-selling American-made automobiles in the United States.

For its debut in 1958, the Impala was distinguished from other models by its symmetrical triple taillights. The Chevrolet Caprice was introduced as a top-line Impala Sport Sedan for model year 1965, later becoming a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-sized model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994 and 1996, the Impala was revised as a 5.7-liter V8–powered version of the Chevrolet Caprice Classic sedan.

In 2000, the Impala was reintroduced again as a mainstream front-wheel drive car. In February 2014, the 2014 Impala ranked No. 1 among Affordable Large Cars in U.S. News & World Report's rankings. When the 10th generation of the Impala was introduced for the 2014 model year, the 9th generation was rebadged as the Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers through 2016. During that time, both versions were sold in the United States and Canada. The 10th-generation Impala was also sold in the Middle East and South Korea.

Common 2020 Chevrolet Impala problems

The 2020 Chevrolet Impala has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the headlights, electrical system, steering, and airbags.

One of the issues reported is related to the headlights, with owners stating that the headlamps failed to produce adequate lighting while driving.

Another problem is related to the electrical system, specifically the air conditioner tube, which can cause massive leaking in the carpets, leading to mold growth and electrical issues. This issue can significantly impact the vehicle's interior and cause health concerns for the occupants due to mold exposure.

Steering problems have also been reported, with the "Power Steering - Drive with Care" message appearing on the instrument panel, requiring excessive force to steer the vehicle after parking. This issue can be inconvenient and potentially dangerous, especially during parking maneuvers.

Airbag issues have also been noted, with airbags failing to deploy during accidents, which can lead to increased injury risk for occupants during collisions. This problem can be a significant safety concern, and it is essential to address it promptly.

The 2020 Chevrolet Impala has not had any safety recalls issued from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but it is backed by a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the 2020 Chevrolet Impala. Owners are encouraged to contact their local dealership or the manufacturer to report any problems and seek resolution.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-11-19
  • VIN: 2G11Z5S32L9
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: As I was driving my car in the interstate the car started making noises and began to shake and then it stop driving normally. I did my best to move to the curve and then called a towing truck to get the car. The car transmission stopped working properly. I conducted an analysis on this car in the internet and it has been written that the transmission has a manufacturer's defect. Also, the car dealer did a diagnostics test on the vehicle and proved that the transmission is not responding. The car dealer said the repair is not covered. This car is less than 5 years old. I was driving with an unsafe car. Data indicates that the transmission defects with a transmission fluid leak. I was in a dangerous situation while driving the car in the interstate. There were no warning signs and I believe this can be a dangerous situation for other consumers who may have the same car. The dealer and manufacturer does not want to cover the repair of the transmission since they said there has not been any recalls with the car. I want to put this complaint because I was at risk for something I had no control of. I contacted the corporate office and they told me to take it back to get a second diagnostic. In my opinion I have already done the diagnostic and they will not accept it unless is recent. The diagnostic was done in March 2024. Dealer wants me to pay for the repair. The transmission fluid leak is a problem that appears to be from the manufacturer because a transmission's life should last longer. The car has been undriveable.

Negative 2020 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

  1. Derrick Bradtke 2024-11-02

Your Premier Impala looks and drives great! It has great handling with responsive steering and brakes, and the comfy seats make for a pleasant ride. The music and info system are also top-notch. However, it seems that the 20” tires come with very noisy high performance Firestone tires, which can be quite bothersome. It's unfortunate that you didn't receive any help from Firestone or the dealer. I hope your new Lexus 350ES provides a quieter and more enjoyable driving experience for you!

  2. Mckenzie Ritchie 2024-09-12

I purchased a 2019 Impala with 34,000 miles in September and it now has 39,000 miles. Although it looks great, I have to say it's not as responsive as my previous 2010 Impala with the 3.5 engine. I drive conservatively and unfortunately, this car doesn't respond well to light touches. However, I was able to sell it to my local Chevrolet dealer for $1000 more than what I paid for it, which was a great deal considering the current inventory shortage. I then purchased a black 2011 Impala with the 3.5 engine and I couldn't be happier!

  3. Jorge Anderson 2024-08-01

You can save a lot of money by purchasing a used Impala of the model you are looking for, rather than buying a new one. The LTZ or Premier models should not cost more than $30,000 brand new. While it is a nice looking car, it may not be worth the high price that dealers are offering. It is worth noting that GM is discontinuing this car, along with a few other mid-size GM cars. When considering purchasing these types of cars, it is important to be cautious as many GM cars have the same engine.

  4. Cicero Breitenberg 2024-07-07

I have been dreaming of driving an Impala since the 90s and finally got the chance to rent one for two weeks while my main vehicle was in the shop. The exterior of the car is absolutely stunning, as we all know. However, when I first sat in the car, I was a bit underwhelmed. While the leather seats were nice and adjustable, the infotainment system and in-dash display were quite outdated and looked like something you could buy and install yourself at Best Buy. Additionally, the headrest was quite hard and uncomfortable, and the limited driver assists, aside from the blind spot warning, made it difficult to see anything other than directly ahead. Despite these issues, the car was quick, although the transmission was a bit sluggish and the brakes would get rock hard if the car sat for more than three hours. These issues were unexpected for a car with only 23k miles. For comparison, my primary vehicle is a 2020 Honda minivan, which has standard lane keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control, as well as nicer displays and more accurate voice commands, all for a similar price.

  5. Mallory Haley 2024-01-05

If you are considering purchasing a Chevy product, it is important to be confident in your decision beforehand. The 2019 Impala has a sleek exterior and a comfortable interior, but there are some areas for improvement. The V6 engine provides decent power, but the power steering system and front end design can make it difficult to maintain control at high speeds. The transmission can also be slow and unresponsive at times. In terms of the interior, while it looks nice, there have been some reported issues with rattling and loose panels. Additionally, the climate control system could benefit from more manual control options. Overall, the Impala is a solid choice for those who prioritize style and comfort, but it may not be the best fit for everyone. The car's exterior features could benefit from some improvements. The headlights, door handles, and wheels could be designed to a higher standard. Additionally, the backup camera could be more reliable. Unfortunately, the issues with this car have led me to purchase a different vehicle. It is disappointing that the dealer has not been able to address these concerns. When considering purchasing a vehicle, it may be best to explore options beyond Chevy products.

Positive 2020 Chevrolet Impala car reviews

  1. Gino Leuschke 2024-11-08

The V6 LT is an amazing car with great get up and go. It's also surprisingly quiet thanks to the acoustic glass and triple sealed doors. My personal favourite features are the leather seats, Bose sound system with 11 speakers, and navigation. The blind spot and rear cross traffic alerts are also fantastic, without any annoying nanny features like lane departure or adaptive cruise control. Plus, it's not too techy. The 18 inch wheels have enough rubber to ensure a smooth ride without being too harsh.

  2. Raphael Fisher 2024-11-06

After owning Chevys and Cadillacs of all sorts, I can honestly say that this model of Impala is definitely the last of its kind. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think we'll ever again get a full-size sedan/naturally aspirated engine combination. I do not like or am interested in SUVs besides actual body-on-frame trucks. The trend has to stop; it is both annoying and inconvenient. Chevy and Ford must continue making sedans!

  3. Lennie Brakus 2024-10-12

I love the Pepperdust's two-tone color scheme, which is complemented by the light-colored leather, Bose sound system, and 18-inch wheels that provide a smooth and quiet ride. While the car's acoustic glass helps to reduce noise, it may not be as effective on rough roads. If you're looking for even less road noise, you may want to consider upgrading to a Buick LaCrosse or Caddy CT6 sedan. The Pepperdust is one of the last V6 sedans without the pesky 8-speed transmission or stop/start feature. Instead, it features a reliable 6-speed transmission. Be sure to use the audio controls on the steering wheel to avoid rubbing off the infotainment screen's finish. I learned this the hard way when I owned a 2013 Camaro with the same screen, and the previous owner's constant toggling between two radio stations resulted in two wear marks on the finish. After 14,600 miles, my Pepperdust still looks brand new and I couldn't be happier!

  4. Hyman Huel 2024-09-29

I really like the name plate of the car, but unfortunately, I didn't end up getting it. However, I do have some concerns about the thick roof pillars that can impair visibility, which is really important to me. Additionally, I think there could be more color options available, as the current selection is quite limited. Personally, I think a larger car should come in a darker color, such as a grey metallic, but this is just my preference. Despite these minor issues, the Impala is a fantastic car in almost every aspect. The engine provides great value for the price. I hope to make a decision soon, as I don't want GM to stop making this amazing car.

  5. Darian Zulauf 2024-08-13

This car has an amazing interior and exterior look. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast it was when I first drove it. Compared to the Chrysler 300, Honda Accord, and Nissan Maxima, this car is definitely the best choice. It's perfect for long-distance drives, it feels like I'm riding on rails. Overall, this car is an amazing sedan.
