Chevrolet Hhr problems
The Chevrolet HHR (an initialism for Heritage High Roof) is a retro-styled, high-roofed, five-door, five-passenger, front-wheel drive wagon designed by Bryan Nesbitt and launched by the American automaker Chevrolet at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model.
The HHR shares the GM Delta platform with the Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, and Saturn Ion. Chevrolet also marketed a panel van variant of the HHR beginning in 2007. Assembled in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico and marketed throughout North America, production of the HHR ended in May 2011. The HHR was replaced in the U.S. by the Chevrolet Captiva Sport. This was a rebadged version of the Opel Antara. However, the Captiva Sport was only available as a fleet vehicle and was not available new to the general public.
Design
The vehicle's design was inspired by the late-1940s/early 1950s Chevrolet cars and trucks, specifically the 1947 Chevrolet Suburban and Advance Design pickups, with large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. The design of the HHR has been credited to Bryan Nesbitt who was a former designer at Chrysler where he was the lead designer of the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Nesbitt was recruited by GM to join its design staff and served for a time as the chief designer of the Chevrolet brand. The HHR had a cargo-carrying capacity of 62.7 cubic feet (1.78 m3). All models had a flat-load floor (passenger models have 60/40 split bench) and fold-flat front passenger seat. For the 2007 model year, it was available in four trim levels; LS, LT, 2LT, and Special Edition. A panel van variant was also made available in 2007 for only the LT trim and became available on all trim levels in 2008. A "Half Panel" (RPO code AA5) rear quarter window delete option was available in the 2008 to 2010 model years.

Common Chevrolet Hhr problems
The Chevrolet HHR, a compact station wagon, has been known for its unique design and reliability. However, like any vehicle, it can experience common problems that may affect its drivability and quality. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues based on car owner complaints:
- Check Engine Light Due to Gas Cap Issue: This issue has been reported by 99 people, making it the most common problem. The check engine light may illuminate due to a loose or worn-out gas cap, which can cause harmful vapor to be released into the air and force the owner to spend more on fuel.
- Poor Engine Performance: Some owners of the 2011 Chevrolet HHR have reported excessive vibration, lurching forward, and a drop in RPMs. This could be caused by a clogged or dirty air filter, damaged intake hoses, faulty fuel pumps or injectors, or damaged sensors. If you experience these symptoms, it is recommended to have your vehicle checked by a licensed mechanic for a proper diagnosis.
- Power Steering Shutdowns: The 2008 Chevrolet HHR has been reported to have power steering shuts down, with an average cost to fix of $500 and an average mileage of 88,000 mi.
- Accessories - Interior Problems: The worst problem category for the Chevrolet HHR is accessories - interior problems, which can include malfunctioning power windows, radio issues, and broken dashboard gauges.
- Transmission Issues: Some owners have reported transmission problems, such as slipping, jerking, and difficulty shifting.
- Air Conditioning Failure: The air conditioning system may fail, causing discomfort during hot weather and potentially leading to overheating issues.
- Battery Failure: Some owners have reported issues with the battery, such as difficulty starting the car or complete battery failure.
- Steering Wheel Problems: Issues with the steering wheel, such as shaking or difficulty turning, have been reported.
- Electrical System Problems: Various electrical system problems, such as malfunctioning dashboard indicators, have been reported.
While the Chevrolet HHR has a reputation for reliability, it is important to be aware of these common issues and address them promptly to maintain the vehicle's quality and drivability.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-18
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-24
- VIN: 3GCCA85B79S
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: last week we noticed gasoline showing up on the ground in front of the rear driver side tire. I looked underneath and found a pipe that seems to be corroded. I looked online and found that many people have the same problem, so I haven't had it checked at a dealership. The pipe continues to leak after you walk away and I'm afraid someone will discard a cigarette near the vehicle, or worse. We are generally home, and can be reached for inspection.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-12
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-04
- VIN: 3GNBACDV3AS
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Although this vehicle is a 2010 HHR, it has less than 23000 miles on it, has been garaged kept and maintained impeccably. The warning light blinks at random and then the power steering fails. It does not matter the speed of the vehicle and happens at random. Once turned off and restarted, the power steering works for approx 5 minutes and then fails again. There was a recall on 2009-2010 HHRs for sudden loss of power steering issued in 3/2014, recall # 14V153000. This recall is not VIN# specific. However, when I contact the dealer for repair of this vehicle, I am told that the recall does not pertain to my VIN#, so its not covered. NHTSA has more than 135 complaints about HHRs since 10/2019 with more than half of them being steering issues. This clearly is a wider recall issue than originally thought. My vehicle is inoperable due to this safety issue. I filed a complaint with GM. They told me it was not their issue and I could pay to have it diagnosed and fixed at a dealership. This is a GM issue due to the amount of complaints about this exact problem from other owners. I am hoping GM is made aware of the widespread issues and does the right thing, issuing another recall for all 2009-2010 HHRs regardless of VIN#.
Chevrolet Hhr 2006
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-10
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-12
- VIN: 3GNDA13D16S
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The (EPS) system in my 2006 Chevy HHR has experienced multiple malfunctions. The power steering suddenly cuts out without warning while driving at both low and high speeds, making it extremely difficult to steer, especially when attempting to turn or change lanes. This failure happens intermittently, and the EPS motor is suspected to be the root cause. I have replaced fuses and relays, but the issue persists. This system is available for inspection upon request. This malfunction poses a severe risk to my safety and the safety of others. When the power steering fails, it becomes nearly impossible to turn the vehicle, which is especially hazardous during routine maneuvers such as lane changes or turns at intersections. The sudden loss of steering capability, especially at higher speeds, has left me vulnerable to potential collisions. Given the unpredictability of the issue, it could easily lead to a fatal accident if it occurs while navigating tight curves or avoiding road hazards. The problem has been confirmed by a certified mechanic, who validated that the power steering system is malfunctioning and recognized the danger it poses. The mechanic advised that this issue is prevalent in vehicles of this make and model & suggested filing a formal complaint to prompt further investigation by the manufacturer. To date, the veh has been thoroughly examined by an independent service center. They confirmed the malfunction of the EPS system but were unable to fully resolve the issue through standard repairs like fuse or relay replacements. A "Power Steering" message illuminates on the dashboard. A few seconds later, the power steering system fails completely, leaving the vehicle almost impossible to control. These warnings have been intermittent, but their frequency has increased over time. The first occurrence was about a year ago, Given the ongoing danger and prevalence of this issue among other 2006 Chevy HHR owners, I am requesting that GM initiate a formal recall.

- Model: Chevrolet Hhr 2009
- Report Received Date: 2014-04-30
- Manufacturer: UCI-FRAM Group
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
- Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. Vehicle year: 2007
In my five years of ownership, this vehicle has been incredibly reliable. I've only had to replace the shocks, struts, front wheel bearings, and front brakes. While the ride quality hasn't been up to my personal standards, it still handles decently on the road. The body roll can be a bit much on tight corners, but it's manageable if you slow down. The fuel mileage is consistently between 28 and 30 mpg, which is impressive. However, where this vehicle really shines is its hauling capacity. It can carry a lot of stuff, from lawnmowers to sheets of drywall. If you're looking for a vehicle to drive to school or work and stick to paved roads, this could be a great option for you. I did have to replace a headlight and brake light, but overall, it's been a great car. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone looking for a reliable and practical vehicle.

I absolutely love my 08 LS Auto! The 2.2 motor with 149hp is more than enough, even with the heavy vehicle. The ride is soft and comfortable, just as expected. As a family hauler with two young kids (3 and 4), it's perfect - they can easily get in by themselves, unlike those gas-guzzling SUVs out there. This vehicle is not only affordable and economical, but also has some great modern features and flair. The info panel is fantastic and the interior versatility is top-notch. It's great to see GM offering such great options to lower-priced buyers, not just the monster SUV crowd. The interior quality is even better than expected for the price and segment. In fact, I think it looks more premium than the MSRP suggests. Plus, replacement parts are inexpensive too (brakes, rotors, etc.).

I also own a 2009 2LT version and it has been great so far! I can definitely see where you're coming from with your suggestions for improvement. It would be great if the car came with four wheel disc brakes instead of the current disc/drum combination. Additionally, it would be more convenient if the car came with a full roof rack instead of just half of it, and if the radio/cd player was more robust. I've had issues with CDs getting stuck in the player as well, which can be frustrating. Lastly, I agree that the engine intake air filter housing design could be improved to make it easier to change out filters. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and appreciate your suggestions for improvement.

When I first saw this car, I wasn't too thrilled with the design. However, after test driving it at the dealership, I was completely sold! The turning radius is fantastic, it's easy to park, fun to drive, and has plenty of room for people of all heights. Overall, I'm really impressed with this car.

Don't let the funky retro styling fool you, this is a very practical vehicle. We are empty-nesters who seldom have more than two people in the vehicle but haul a lot of stuff around with our hobbies and this is just the ticket. We have a 2.4L Auto with the 1Lt package and it has plenty of features. The high seats are good for us older types, the short doors make entry/exit easy in tight spots and the rear view camera is definitely recommended. Drives well, plenty of power at highway speeds, and quiet.

I get 35mpg on the highway (manual trans) and about 24 in town. The styling is good and it is fun to drive for the money. I take extreme care of the vehicle, but I am concerned about its long-term quality based on my experience so far. Unfortunately, I have encountered a few issues such as a headliner rattle, engine squeal, water in the gold Chevy emblem on the back, a knock in the front suspension when cold, brakes that squeal at every stop, an inside coat hook that is stuck in the up position, window grease in the door that is streaking the driver's window, and a radio that quits. I haven't had it for 9 months yet, so I wonder what is next? Thank you for your understanding.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it back in 2007 with only 15,000 miles on it, and it had only one previous owner. While I've had some issues with it, I've learned a lot about car maintenance and repair. One thing to note is that the door handles can be a bit fragile, but with proper care, they can last a long time. Recently, I had a bit of trouble with the transmission, and I was surprised to find out that there's no dipstick to check the fluid level. I had to take it to a shop to get it checked out, but thankfully it wasn't too difficult to get it fixed. Overall, while I wouldn't necessarily buy another Chevrolet HHR, I've learned a lot from owning this car and I'm grateful for the experience.

I have owned this car since new and initially enjoyed driving it. However, with 63,000 miles on the clock and a daily commute of 80 miles, I have unfortunately experienced a number of issues. Despite having had the car looked at several times, I have had persistent problems with a bad rattle in the steering, which has been very frustrating. In addition, I have had to replace two struts and two shock absorbers at 50,000 miles, and the car has been in the shop for brake repairs six times. The car also performs poorly in snowy conditions, even with new tires, and the window design makes it difficult to see out. Furthermore, the placement of the radiator means that any stones kicked up can easily cause damage. On the positive side, the car does achieve good gas mileage at 28+ and has ample space for hauling items. Despite my disappointment with the car's reliability, I believe that it is important to be honest about its strengths and weaknesses.

The car has a visually appealing exterior, but the interior design could use some improvement. The plastic material used for the interior gives off a cheap impression. Additionally, the front windshield's positioning requires the driver to lean forward to see the traffic light. The car lacks a console, which results in limited storage space. The dashboard is also not very functional. The seats are not very comfortable, and the space between the driver and passenger is quite cramped. The cup holders are not well-designed, and the armrests are too low to be of any use. The location of the window controls is also not ideal. Lastly, the rear seat room is quite limited.

Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I can confidently say that it is not suitable for midwestern winters due to its low suspension and poor handling. Additionally, there have been issues with leaks and sitting water in the floorboards, which are unfortunately common. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this car.
