The Buick Regal is a line of mid-size cars marketed by Buick since 1973. For nearly its entire production, the Regal has served as the premium mid-size/intermediate offering of the Buick product range. Introduced as a submodel of the Buick Century, the model line is currently in its sixth generation. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the Regal served as the Buick counterpart of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

Originally introduced as a personal luxury coupe, the Regal was later expanded to a full model line. To showcase its success in NASCAR racing, from 1982 to 1987, Buick introduced the Buick Regal Grand National, Regal T-Type, and the limited-production Buick GNX. During the 1990s, while the four-door sedan superseded the two-door coupe entirely, forced-induction engines made their return, with superchargers replacing turbochargers.

For 1999, the Buick Regal inaugurated the sale of GM vehicles in the Chinese market, with the 1997 design lasting through 2008. Following the 2004 model year, Buick retired the nameplate in North America, with the Regal replaced by the Buick LaCrosse.

For 2008, Opel introduced the Opel Insignia as its largest sedan, with Buick rebranding the model line as the Regal for the Chinese market. For 2011, GM reintroduced the Regal to North America, rebranding the Insignia sedan for North America. For 2018, Buick introduced the second-generation Opel Insignia, sourcing all production from Germany; alongside a first-ever liftback sedan, the Regal TourX was the first Buick station wagon in 22 years.

After 2020, as the division shifted away from car model lines, Buick ended sales of the Regal in North America.

BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-09-01
  • VIN: W04GV8SX8L1
  • Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION
  • Summary: Ever since we purchased the vehicle new in 2020 we had an issue with intermittent mulfunction of the parking and cross traffic alerts indicators. The backup camera screen often fails to indicate whether there is cross traffic and from which side. The issue is present about 8/10 times. While the vehicle was under warranty we took it multiple times to two GM dealerships. Technicians updated the vehicle software but the issue remained. It is now going on 4th year that we don't know whether a parking sensor is beeping from our angled driveway or if there is a vehicle approaching from either (and which side!?) of our street, rendering these optional safety feature unreliable. In addition to documenting the issue when visiting the dealerships I also extensively documented the issue as it occurred by photographing the alert system and milage odometer in the same photo frame. One such recent photo is attached. There is a vehicle approaching but the visual indicator is absent. Despite more than ample patience with GM the company inaction on this safety problem remains.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-12-17
  • VIN: W04GV8SX9L1
  • Components: SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: We were Christmas shopping driving down city streets when we heard a loud popping sound. When we pulled over to see what it was, the front passenger’s side seat belt buckle release no longer worked but the seat belt came out without resistance. It has not worked since. The dealer has confirmed the issue but says the part is back ordered without estimated delivery date. By the way, I have looked for parts in junkyards. I have found junk yards with TourXes but not this part as it has already been sold. I have the part if you want to inspect it.

Negative 2020 Buick Regal tourx car reviews

  1. Grover Hettinger 2024-10-02

I had the pleasure of driving the Opel Tourx in Europe as my company car for several months and was thoroughly impressed with its quality, performance, and quietness. When I learned that it would be available in the US, I eagerly ordered one with every option. Unfortunately, upon receiving the car, I experienced some issues such as a loose door panel, a tailgate sensor hanging down, and a noisy cabin. However, the dealership was quick to address these issues and had the car for a week to correct them. Although the cabin noise level was still not to my liking, the dealership and Buick customer service assured me that it was within the normal range. While I ultimately decided to purchase a different vehicle with a quieter cabin, I appreciate the efforts of the dealership to address my concerns. I have no doubt that GM is committed to producing high-quality vehicles and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors.

There is a known issue with the 8 Speed transmission, which has resulted in a class action lawsuit. Despite having less than 4000 miles on my car, I have experienced slipping and difficulty shifting between gears. I reported the issue to the dealer a month ago, but unfortunately, the problem has persisted and even worsened. As a result, I do not feel safe driving this car and would not recommend it to others. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  3. Loy Willms 2024-06-04

I didn't have much time to determine if this car was worth the investment. Unfortunately, I had an accident and discovered that GM has discontinued the vehicle. The parts required to repair the car are not available since GM has not developed the parts supply and is not willing to do a separate run. This means that the car cannot legally be driven, so I'm stuck with paying hundreds in a car payment without being able to drive it or risking my credit by letting it be repossessed. It's a frustrating situation, but I'm hopeful that it will be resolved soon. UPDATE: Buick finally came up with the parts and my repaired Buick was returned to me in mid-Dec, 5 months after bringing it to the body shop. I still haven't had the chance to drive it much due to COVID-19 crisis issues, but it seems like a nice car. I reserve judgment until I have an opportunity to operate it regularly for a while. At the moment, I dislike that it does not run well on regular gas. They should be more overt with the 'runs better on high-octane fuel' warning vs hiding it in small print in the owners manual. However, I do appreciate the performance when I DO use high-octane fuel. UPDATE Oct 2020: I went on 2 long trips (3000 mi round trip) and planning a 3rd. Gas mileage is not great and premium fuel is pricey, but the performance and comfort were good. The car has solid storage capacity for 2 persons with 10 day's of luggage each. I had another problem with parts availability when a side window was broken and it took 2 weeks to get a replacement, though part of that was Safelite's fault. The electronics are good, but there are too many re-boots requiring a stop, turn off, and turn car back on. It can be frustrating if traveling. UPDATE 4/26/2021: Approaching 30K miles. No changes. Overall, the car is comfortable, but the cost of premium fuel is rising. The turbo charged engine provides very good performance (while using premium fuel). The problem with electronics is not as evident when traveling locally. The car has good storage capacity and no out of the ordinary maintenance issues.

At 795 miles, the service engine soon light came on. The dealership was unable to locate the vacuum leak and reset the computer. At 1135 miles, the light came on again. The dealership was able to locate the leak and replace the necessary part. Unfortunately, at 1350 miles, the light came on again. I will be taking it back today and expressing my concerns to the management. It is disappointing that the car has been experiencing these issues, but I am hopeful that the dealership will be able to resolve them soon.

Positive 2020 Buick Regal tourx car reviews

  1. Devan Wiza 2025-04-01

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you got a great deal on the essence trim. While some reviewers have complained about the start/stop feature, you have found a fun way to override it by putting it in manual 'tiptronic' mode at stop lights. It's great that you and your wife were able to customize the car to your liking and opted out of the Nanny features. The cupholders could use a redesign, but you have found a clever solution to use low commuter cups to access the temperature control. The Android auto feature is also a great addition. The 2.0 t eco tech GM engine is impressive and provides a powerful ride. It's great to hear that the dealer was able to quickly resolve the issue with the shock absorber. This Opel, made in Germany, truly feels and drives like a high-quality car. It's a shame that Opel was bought out by Peugeot, who makes great pepper mills! This car is sure to sell out quickly, so don't hesitate to buy one now. You don't have to follow the crowd and buy a CUV! Enjoy your new ride!

Firstly, I would like to mention that there is very limited storage space for small personal items, which can be a bit inconvenient. Additionally, if you have the sunroof, you may have to compromise on the sunglass holder. However, these are minor issues and do not take away from the overall experience of driving this car. Secondly, the front end of the car can be a bit noisy, especially when driving over uneven pavement at lower speeds or when braking. Although this can be a bit annoying, it does not affect the performance of the car. Lastly, when starting the car cold, it may sound like it is struggling to provide power until it warms up. However, this is a common issue with many cars and is not a major concern. Overall, I absolutely love this car. It has a stunning appearance, provides a smooth ride, handles well, has good gas mileage, and is fun to drive. Additionally, the AWD works great in the winter.

  3. Kendrick Hammes 2025-03-05

This vehicle is a great value, drawing more attention than a Volvo V90 wagon and costing $25k less. It is just as capable and, when optioned correctly, just as full-featured and luxurious. Although the materials in the interior may be a slight step down, the quiet and composed ride with more than enough power make up for it. Unless you plan to off-road often, this vehicle's AWD works great. Additionally, dealers are willing to offer discounts on these vehicles right now. Although there have been a couple of small issues, such as the infotainment system pre-sets not always working and the reverse camera guide lines disappearing during back-up, mechanically it has been great. After one year, this vehicle still impresses and I would highly recommend it. If you are considering the TourX, get one now as GM will not sell them after this year, which is a pity.

  4. Silas Schimmel 2025-03-01

Last December, I purchased my 2019 Regal TourX, fully loaded. Even after driving 7K miles, I still feel that I made the right choice. The car received over 10K in discounts, which definitely helped me reach my decision. Apart from the pricing, the car is well-built and has many positives. I find it to be a great all-around wagon/vehicle. Others seem to like it too, as I receive compliments on the car's looks. In summary, the positives are numerous: it looks super nice, drives smoothly with enough power and outstanding road manners, has excellent ergonomics (seating, access, rear seat, space, comfort, buttons), near-excellent infotainment and technology (the adaptive cruise control and heated steering are must-haves! The LCD screen is big enough, the software above average, and the response is quick), and good MPG (~30 hwy and ~22 city). The negatives are few, and I know I am being picky: the lane assist, although good, could have been better (when using it, I find myself dealing with a bit of lane-to-lane correction, maybe it is on me?), the interior is using GM hard plastics (what is GM thinking? Come on GM, this is a 40K car! Get on any VW/Hyundai/Honda vehicle and you can tell the difference), the seats (although fine with good comfort) are wrapped in cheap quality leather and could use a bit more padding, and accessing the oil filter requires removing the engine's lower dust cover. When I was in the market for a wagon with a budget of 35-45K, I drove the Volvo V90 (impressive and expensive, over 55K!), almost bought the Subaru Outback (I liked it, but was not sold on the big screen-too bright at night- and I thought the near 40K was too much for a wagon, which at times was looking a bit like a 'tool'. I wanted a bit of luxury too, like the Volvo). The TourX was always in the back of my mind, and I kept asking myself, 'why not the Buick?'When comparing equipment and performance against the Subaru, I found that the Buick TourX came close enough to meeting my needs. Although my off-road needs are minimal, I needed a wagon for the space and 4-wheel drive, and the Buick TourX was a nice option, especially considering it was about 10K less expensive. This is my first US vehicle (and it's made in Germany, go figure!), but after driving it for 7K miles, I can say that I'm really enjoying it. If you're in the market for a wagon, I highly recommend taking a look at the Buick TourX.

  5. Chadrick West 2025-01-22

The TourX is exactly what you're looking for! It's a European-based AWD wagon that offers excellent value, great styling, a strong engine, very good MPG, a smooth transmission, a big interior, a quiet ride, excellent handling, and lots of features. You've owned several other cars in the past, including an Audi Allroad (unreliable), several Subarus (mundane and common), and two Lincoln SUVs (OK but still not as nice overall as the TourX). I'm glad to hear that the local Buick dealer provided exemplary service during your purchase. It's unfortunate that the TourX lacks ventilated (cooled) seats, has limited interior (front row) storage, and doesn't allow you to turn off the 'automatic engine stop/start', but it's great to hear that you still love the car after 16,500 miles! It's a shame that Buick has discontinued this model, as it seems like a big mistake in your view!
