Chevrolet Chevy van problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common Chevrolet Chevy van problems
Based on the complaints from owners of Chevrolet Chevy Van cars, several common problems have been identified:
- Ignition Coil Malfunction: Owners have reported problems with the ignition coil, which is responsible for transforming the battery's voltage into an electric spark. A damaged ignition coil can result in insufficient power to start the engine, leading to starting issues for the vehicle.
- Starter Motor Problems: The starter motor is essential for turning the engine over and initiating the combustion process. If the starter motor malfunctions, it can prevent the engine from starting, causing frustration for the vehicle owner. Replacing a faulty starter motor is necessary to resolve this issue.
These common problems with Chevrolet Chevy Van cars highlight various issues that owners may encounter, ranging from leaks and interior quality issues to critical engine components like the timing belt, ignition coil, and starter motor. Addressing these problems promptly and with the help of professional mechanics can help maintain the performance and reliability of the Chevy Chevy Van.
Are Chevy Express vans reliable?

ON THE CHEVY ASTRO RECALL PAGES IT EVEN STATES AND I QOUTE " THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) CONTROL UNIT MAY FAIL INTERNALLY CAUSING THE ABS WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE." THIS ISN'T A SAFETY ISSUE, IT'S A PARTS ISSUE, THE PART IS GLUED TOGETHER MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO FIX. THIS IS OBSOLESCENCE , "MAKE IT TO BREAK" MENTALITY. IF I WANT A VACATION NOW I'LL HAVE TO BORROW MONEY TO DO IT, OR PUT IT ON MY CREDIT CARD. THANKS TO WHOEVER MADE THESE LAWS, AND THEN DIDN'T MAKE THE CAR COMPANIES RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PARTS.

Chevrolet Chevy van 1997
- Date Of Incident: 2001-05-13
- Date Complaint: 2014-03-13
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: MY HUSBAND WROTE A LENGTHY LETTER DETAILING THE PROBLEM AND EVENTS AROUND THE TIME WE WERE FORCED TO TRADE OUR VAN FOR A TAHOE IN JULY/AUGUST 2001. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 40 NEAR CROSSVILLE, TN, WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT LEAVING ME WITH LITTLE CONTROL AND BARELY ABLE TO MOVE IT SAFELY TO THE ROADSIDE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE CHEVY DEALER IN CROSSVILLE, WHO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. AFTER MULTIPLE EVENTS LATER THE SAME TYPE INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING ON A CROWDED TALLAHASSEE, FL, ROAD WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION. THEIR CHEVY DEALER TRIED TO FIND THE PROBLEM BUT COULDN'T EITHER. WE DROVE IT HOME ON BACK HIGHWAYS TO OUR TOWN OF TULLAHOMA,TN, VERY CAREFULLY, BUT IT STALLED OUT AGAIN 50 MILES FROM HOME. THE CHEVY DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO STAND BEHIND IT, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT QUITE 3 YEARS OLD, AND INSISTED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WE WERE FORCED TO TRADE OUR VAN, AND THE DEALERSHIP SOLD IT TO SOMEONE ELSE IN THAT DANGEROUS CONDITION. THAT'S WHY MY HUSBAND REPORTED IT TO YOU AT THAT TIME; WE DIDN'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO BE HURT OR DIE FROM THE PROBLEM. THE IGNITION SHUTTING OFF, LIKE WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY OTHER GM CARS, IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO OUR VAN. NOW I BELIEVE GM HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A LONGER TIME. I JUST HEARD ON THE NEWS THAT IT HAS BEEN TRACED BACK TO 2001; IT MUST BE EVEN OLDER THAN THAT. I CAN PROVIDE THE VIN # WHEN WE GET BACK TO TN AS MY HUSBAND IS WORKING A JOB IN FL RIGHT NOW. ALSO, WE DROVE ANOTHER GM VAN THE DAY BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE CHEVY VAN AND IT DID THE SAME THING ON THE WAY HOME FROM A TRIP TO FRANKLIN, TN, THEREFORE WE RETURNED IT, AS THE GM DEALERSHIP COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. YES, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A LONG TIME AND I AM THANKFUL TO BE ALIVE! *TR

I love my 1993 G20 with a 5.7 liter V8! It has plenty of power, great mileage on the highway, and can haul just about anything. I bought it with 53,000 miles and now has 65,000 miles on it. I have had to do nothing to it but general maintenance. I am so pleased with it and hope to have it for years to come. It drives and runs like it is brand new.

I recently installed poly bushings in the sway bar and added poly air bags to the front springs, resulting in a superb ride. Unfortunately, the T.P.S. went bad at 75,000 miles, causing a high idle, and the air conditioner compressor seized at 70,000 miles, which burned up the serpentine belt, leaving me without water pumping, alternator or power steering. However, I was able to fix the issue by installing a bypass pulley and a new belt. Additionally, the exhaust fell off, but I was able to install a clamp on a new one from the cat. converter. Although the trip counter gears stripped out, the odometer and counter are still in good condition. Overall, I am very happy with my van, which has been very dependable with 75,000 miles on it now.

I'm so glad I bought this 93 G30/5.7L van, even though it had a lot of miles on it. It starts and runs like a dream, getting me through every day with ease. I've had to do minimal maintenance on it, and it's been incredibly reliable.

I bought this van in April 2004 with 94,500 miles and it has been a reliable companion ever since. As of July 2006, it has 125,000 miles on it. It's a G20 Shorty (180in long) with a 4.3L engine. Compared to a Ford van, the front end is excellent. The gas mileage ranges from 17 (city) to 20 (highway) at 65mph. Although the A/C has been a constant problem, the engine has been very reliable. Unfortunately, the A/C compressor has been replaced twice in the last two years and is broken again now. Lastly, the factory jack is a bit clumsy to use.

Hi there! I noticed that your car has had some issues with the u joints and right rear axle rusting out. It sounds like you've had to replace quite a few parts already. Would you like some help finding a solution to these problems?

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my conversion van. I bought it back in '95 with only 26,000 miles on it, and it's been quite the journey since then! While I've had to replace the brakes every year and the axle bearings need replacing annually, it's always started up and shifted smoothly. Unfortunately, the A/C finally gave out after 10 years, but that was to be expected. Recently, it was totaled, but I'm grateful for the memories we made together!
