Cadillac Seville problems

The Cadillac Seville is a mid-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac from the 1976 to 2004 model years as a smaller-sized, premium model. It was replaced by the STS in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

Common Cadillac Seville problems
The Cadillac Seville, particularly the 1992-1997 models, is known for several common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the issues in detail:
- Electrical Issues: The Seville can experience various electrical problems, including issues with the ignition lock cylinder, anti-theft system, and wiring in the steering column. These issues can prevent the vehicle from starting or cause the engine to stall intermittently.
- Cooling System Leaks: The Seville's water pump or radiator may start to leak coolant, leading to overheating and potential engine damage. This issue can be costly to repair, especially if it results in a blown head gasket.
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure: The crankshaft position sensor can fail in the Seville, causing the engine to stall intermittently.
- Intermittent Lighting Issues: Some Seville owners have reported intermittent lighting issues, where the low beams or position lights may not work consistently. This issue can be caused by various factors, including faulty wiring, relays, or switches.
- Climate Control Failure: The Seville's climate control system, including the heater and A/C, can malfunction due to failing door actuators. This issue can affect the vehicle's ability to maintain a comfortable temperature and may require a diagnosis and repair by a professional.
- Power Window Failure: The Seville's power windows can fail due to broken window regulators, which can cause the window to fall into the door and not roll back up.
These common problems with the Cadillac Seville can be costly to repair and may affect the vehicle's overall reliability. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and prevent these issues, but some problems may still occur due to the vehicle's age and design.

Webasto Hollandia 700 series sunroof, Serial Number 0524386. A recall was already done for this defective product but Webasto will not fix this one because they claim this sunroof is a "different series" than what is covered by the recall, which is supposed to start with 06. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE: 'FRONTAL AIRBAGS ARE GENERALLY DESIGNED TO DEPLOY IN 'MODERATE/SEVERE' FRONTAL OR NEAR-FRONTAL CRASHES, WHICH ARE DEFINED AS CRASHES THAT ARE EQUIVALENT TO HITTING A SOLID, FIXED BARRIER AT 8-14 MPH OR HIGHER. (THIS WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO STRIKING A PARKED CAR OF SIMILAR SIZE AT ABOUT 16-28 MPH OR HIGHER.)' SINCE I WAS GOING MUCH SLOWER THAN 8-14 MPH, I BELIEVE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO ASSIST ME OR ADVISE ME?

This is my first Cadillac. I'm so glad I bought it! It handles great and turns heads. It's the kind of car that makes me excited to drive every day.

Vehicle year: 1996
I bought the car from a dealer with 40,000 miles on it. The dealer offered a free 90-day warranty, which was a great bonus. I brought the car back a week before the warranty expired because it was leaking oil, but the dealer was able to fix the problem. They also took care of all the recalls, which was a relief. Although there were some minor electrical glitches, I was able to fix them with the help of a code reader and parts from a local junkyard. Today, the car has 105,000 miles and is still running smoothly with just regular oil and gas. I often drive it to Vegas, which is an 800-mile trip, and it's always a blast to go over the mountains or Utah plains. The car has a super AC and plenty of power, and the Bose music system with CD changer turns it into a mobile concert hall. It gets 19 mpg in town and 28 mpg out of town. I would definitely choose a Seville again, even though they don't make them anymore.

I absolutely love my Seville! It's such a pleasure to drive and I'm surprised that its value is so low. I don't think I could find a replacement without spending $40,000 on a Cadillac DeVille. My wife and I take it on trips and it's exceptionally comfortable, gets great gas mileage at 27-28 mpg, and looks great too. With only 93,000 miles on it, I plan on proudly driving it for many more years to come!

Vehicle year: 1999
I recently bought my 99 STS, which I love, after my 94 Eldo was backed into by a raised pickup. I had the Northstar oil leak controlled in the Eldo, which only had 88K miles on it and I adored its style and ride. The STS has had only one previous owner, who was actually a lovely little old lady from Pasadena. According to the carfax, the car has had over 30 services at the dealer in the Pasadena area, and she even bought the tires there! There is no evidence of any major problems in the records, but surprises can always happen!

As a fellow teen driver, I can totally relate to your experience with your first car. It sounds like you have a great car on your hands, as long as you take good care of it. I agree that the features can be a bit overwhelming, but it's worth it for the power and comfortable turning. The all-digital display is a pretty cool touch too! I understand that the size can be a bit of a challenge, especially when it comes to parking. Just remember to be careful and aware of your surroundings. Overall, it sounds like you have a great car that will serve you well as long as you give it the care it deserves!

Luckily I bought an extended warranty with this car. Although I have had some trouble with it, the dealership has always been helpful and accommodating. I have been to the dealership 22 times in the three years that I have owned this car, but they have always been able to fix the issues. While I have had better experiences with cars made in Japan, I appreciate the effort that GM puts into their engineering. I will definitely consider buying American again in the future.

Your 1991 Cadillac Seville has been through a lot with 125,000 miles on it! It's impressive that you've been able to keep it running for so long. You've had to make some repairs along the way, like replacing the fuel injectors at 120,000 miles for $1,200, and the front struts at 110,000 miles for $400. The exhaust also went bad at 122,000 miles, which cost $250 to fix. Although there are a few things that still need attention, like the driver's side power window, the rear speakers, and the rear air ride shocks, it's great that you've been able to keep it going this long. It's also understandable that the interior is showing some wear and tear after all these years. Despite the poor gas mileage of 13.5 in the city, it's clear that you've taken good care of your car.

I bought my 1993 Cadillac Seville from a lovely elderly gentleman who had a stack of dealer receipts. The car was in great condition and I got it for a steal at only $7,000! I took care of it with regular tune-ups, maintenance, and battery and alternator replacements, but unfortunately, about six weeks ago, things started to go wrong. The repairs were quite expensive, but I didn't mind because I loved my Cadillac and planned on keeping it for years to come. However, the transmission failed at just over 100,000 miles and shortly after that, the Northstar engine backfired so badly that the intake manifold shattered. After spending $1,600 on repairs, I'm now hesitant to even start the car and will have to sell it. As a lifelong Cadillac enthusiast, I was hoping that the brand had finally turned a corner after the 1977-1989 drought, but it seems I was mistaken.

I would highly recommend purchasing an extended warranty if you decide to buy. In my experience, I had to replace the alternator, transmission, and struts within three years, as well as deal with a major oil leak that required a 3K repair. Thanks to the extended warranty, I only had to pay 800.00 out of pocket for 7k worth of repairs. As you may know, repairs can be quite expensive, especially at the Cadillac dealer.
