Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

- Summary: Sunroof flew off while driving. The adhesive bond between the glass and the metal frame debonded and the sunroof glass completely separated from the vehicle. Webasto Hollandia 700 series sunroof, Serial Number 0524386. A recall was already done for this defective product but Webasto will not fix this one because they claim this sunroof is a "different series" than what is covered by the recall, which is supposed to start with 06. I think this is just an excuse to get out of fixing the vehicle. The vehicle has no interior roof other than the small fabric slider that was there to protect the glass. The contact stated that Webasto finally agreed to send a replacement but the cost of the repair was not covered.

- Summary: I was driving the car all day and just had jumped back on highway doing around 65mph and all of a sudden the car threw itself into first gear it felt like and started accelerating on decelerating on its own jerking very violently if I wasn't wearing my seatbelt I would of went through the front windshield because it threw me forward i went from doing 65mph down to 10mph in less then 5seconds I was scared as [XXX] the steering wheel was hard to control and other cars were honking at me and it was just a mess and my car only has 100,763miles on it I barley drove it this year i will not get back in that car unless it is fixed because that's my daily driver and now its stuck in my driveway and my brother cant get his car out of the driveway so he's pissed now it wont go in reverse or wont move in neutral I left it alone I don't wanna mess with the car i already made a complaint to Cadillac and they said they will look into it and asked me for my vin but that was a few days ago they never called me or anything imagine if my nieces were in the car with me which I'm glad they Were not usually they are that [XXX] coulda killed someone and now I'm out of a car and there gonna look into it that's crazy they need to fix these cars transmission problems there having my car has never done this before and now I cant get to my job interviews because of this and still nothing is being done about it . SHE DID THIS THREE TIMES BEFORE GETTING IT IN A FORWARD GEAR AND MOVING FORWARD WITHOUT THE CAR ENGINE STALLING. AT NO TIME DID DURING THIS DID THE AIRBAGS IN THE SEVILLE DEPLOY.

THEY PERFORMED AN INVESTIGATION AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE REPAIRS BUT REFUSED TO GIVE ME A REASON. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE: 'FRONTAL AIRBAGS ARE GENERALLY DESIGNED TO DEPLOY IN 'MODERATE/SEVERE' FRONTAL OR NEAR-FRONTAL CRASHES, WHICH ARE DEFINED AS CRASHES THAT ARE EQUIVALENT TO HITTING A SOLID, FIXED BARRIER AT 8-14 MPH OR HIGHER. (THIS WOULD BE EQUIVALENT TO STRIKING A PARKED CAR OF SIMILAR SIZE AT ABOUT 16-28 MPH OR HIGHER.)' - Summary: SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.0L V8 ENGINES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE NYLON TUBING USED IN THE FUEL RAIL CONSTRUCTION MAY DEGRADE AND CRACK. ADDITIONALLY, THE 1995 MODEL YEAR USES A UNIQUE UNDERHOOD FUEL RETURN LINE THAT MAY CRACK. CRACKING OF THE FUEL RAIL OR RETURN LINE TUBING CAN RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

You've got an excellent power, handling, comfort and mileage in this car. The sleek looks of this model are even better than the newer '98 and later model Sevilles. The dual memory of seat position, A/C settings, mirrors and radio stations for two different drivers is an excellent touch.

I really love the STS! However, I would suggest making the interior more ergonomic, especially the center console. Additionally, the drink holder could be improved. I have owned five Cadillacs, three of which were the STS model, and I am excited to check out the new STS-V later this year. While I have owned luxury cars from German and Japanese brands like Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus, I have to say that American engineering is really shining with the STS-V. The Lexus is the only one that comes close!

I love my car, but it has a few issues. The headlights only work sporadically, and the air conditioner doesn't work. The front grill underneath the hood is also falling down. Additionally, it requires premium gas and only gets 18-19 miles per gallon. However, it does have a great stereo!

While it has had some challenges, I've been able to replace a number of parts including the gas tank, brake lines, ball joints, brakes, tires, transmission, antenna motor and antenna, radiator, water pumps, trans cooling fan, shocks, and exhaust system. Although it has overheated twice, I find it fun to drive when it's working properly. However, I would caution against purchasing this car without being aware of its history. Thanks for listening!

The car is very comfortable on long trips and handles well. However, when I try to keep up with traffic and reach speeds of 82 to 85, it vibrates slightly. The dealer has attempted to fix the issue, but unfortunately, without success. Despite this, the car is still beautiful and performs well at lower speeds.

I recently purchased this car with 112000 miles on it. The previous owner took great care of it and had it serviced every 3k miles at the Cadillac dealership. I absolutely love driving this car on the freeway as it gets an impressive 30 mpg on premium fuel. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and the car is just as quiet on the inside as some of the newer luxury cars I've rented in the past (such as Lexus, Benz, and BMW). The 4.9 engine provides great power, although it can be a bit much from a dead stop (since it's front-wheel drive), but it's perfect for passing. There is a small oil leak that needs to be fixed, which seems to be coming from the timing chain cover (typical GM issue). Additionally, the air conditioning compressor recently went down, but it's a relatively easy $300 fix if you're willing to do it yourself. The only issue I've had with the car is that the factory Bose CD player tends to skip in cold weather. Overall, I have no complaints and would definitely consider buying another Cadillac.
