2004 Cadillac Seville problems

The Cadillac Seville is a mid-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac from the 1976 to 2004 model years as a smaller-sized, premium model. It was replaced by the STS in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,EQUIPMENT PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2007-11-12
- VIN: 1G6KD54Y94U
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,EQUIPMENT
- Summary: WE (ELMORE SIMS) ARE THE OWNERS OF A 2004 CADILLAC DEVILLE SINCE MAY 2007. WE HAVE OWNED VARIOUS MODELS OF CADILLACS FOR MORE THAN TEN YEARS, AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS. THE NAME "CADILLAC'S" DENOTES QUALITY. HOWEVER, OUR LATEST PURCHASE WITH THIS THREE (3) YEAR OLD VEHICLE IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, HAS CAUSED US GREAT REPAIRS AND EXPENSES AND LOSS OF CONFIDENCE IN THE NAME CADILLAC'S. THE FIRST REPAIR WAS WITH THE FAN MOTOR FOR THE AIR CONDITIONING, WHICH COST $240. THE NEXT MAJOR REPAIR WAS THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH COST $600. THE BRAKES ARE NEXT, BUT THAT IS EXPECTED FROM A THREE YEAR OLD VEHICLE. THE OTHER CADILLAC'S WE HAD WERE ALSO USED VEHICLES AND NEVER REQUIRED MAJOR REPAIRS SUCH AS THESE SO SOON. THOSE OLDER MODEL VEHICLES WERE OF QUALITY. HAS THE MANUFACTURE OUTSOURCES PARTS TO CUT COST? THE QUALITY THAT I EXPECTED FROM CADILLAC HAS BEEN DIMINISHED. I HOPE THEY WILL LOOK INTO THIS MATTER, BECAUSE MY CERTIFIED CADILLAC MECHANIC SAID THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODULE AND THE LATER MODEL GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES. HAVE THERE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CADILLAC DEVILLE, MORE SPECIFICALLY THE FUEL PUMP? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS PART WOULD STOP FUNCTIONING SO SOON AND WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT? ALSO, ON ONE OF YOUR SCREENS, IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO TYPE IN DEVILLE AS THE MODEL OF VEHICLE, SO I CHECKED STS TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT SCREEN. THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. A VERY DISAPPOINTED CADILLAC OWNER! I'M STUCK, BECAUSE I AM ON DISABILITY AND IF THESE TYPES OF REPAIR PROBLEMS CONTINUE, I AM GOING TO GET RID OF THIS CAR AND FORGET ABOUT THE NAME CADILLAC. PLEASE HELP. *TR

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2005-06-14
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- VIN: 1GYDE63A640
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: I WAS STANDING AT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE (CADILLAC SRX) AND I LEANED AGAINST THE BACK BUMPER WITH MY LEG, AND BURNED MY LEG ON THE TAILPIPE. I WAS STANDING "FLUSH" WITH THE BUMPER, AND IT BURNED MY LEG BECAUSE IT STICKS OUT TOO FAR (ABOUT 1/2 INCH TOO FAR) FROM THE BUMPER. THIS IS THE SECOND BURN THAT MY FAMILY HAS EXPERIENCED; ONE MONTH AGO MY 7 YEAR OLD SON BURNED HIS LEG ON THE TAILPIPE AS WELL. HIS BURN WAS MUCH WORSE - IT BLISTERED AND BLED AND SCABBED OVER. HE WAS CLIMBING INTO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE TO RETRIEVE AN ITEM FROM THE TRUNK. I BELIEVE THAT CADILLAC NEEDS TO FIX THE TAILPIPES ON THE CAR BY EITHER SHORTENING THEM BY 3/4" OR 1 INCH, OR BY EXTENDING THE BUMPER SOMEHOW. THIS IS A DESIGN ERROR, AND A SAFETY ISSUE! I WANT CADILLAC TO TAKE CARE OF THIS BEFORE ONE OF MY YOUNGER KIDS, OR SOMEONE ELSE IS BURNED. CADILLAC HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO, AND I DO NOT FIND THIS ACCEPTABLE!
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2004-12-09
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: ON 12/5/04 I PARKED OUR NEW (561 MILES) 2004 CADILLAC DEVILLE AT THE COVERED WEST PALM BEACH AIRPORT PARKING LOT. I LEFT ON BUSINESS AND RETURNED TO THE CAR AT 7:30 PM ON THURSDAY, 12/9/04. I GOT INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE, PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND STARTED THE CAR. THE TWO FRONT AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED! THE DRIVER BAG RAKED UP THE INSIDE OF MY RIGHT FOREARM (WHICH WAS STILL HOLDING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION) AND THEN HIT ME IN THE LEFT SIDE OF MY FACE. I WAS SUFFERING FROM A TERRIBLE COLD AT THE TIME AND HAD TO SIT THERE AND INHALE THE DUST FROM THE BAGS UNTIL I COULD GET THEM ALL DEFLATED. I MANAGED TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT AFTERNOON, WHERE IT REMAINS AWAITING PARTS. GM HAS CALLED ME TWICE, THE FIRST TIME WAS A YOUNG MAN WHO DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK HE WAS DOING OTHER THAN READING QUESTIONS OFF HIS COMPUTER, AND THE SECOND TIME THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT CALLED TO ASK MORE STUPID QUESTIONS...LIKE, "WHAT KIND OF CAR WAS PARKED NEXT TO YOU?" AND "WAS IT HUMID?" I EXPLAINED THAT IN FLORIDA, IT'S ALWAYS SOMEWHAT HUMID. THE ABRASION ON THE INSIDE OF MY ARM BRUISED AND ALSO ENDED UP PEELING ON 12/22/04. MY LEFT CHEEK BRUISED AND THEN THE SPOT GOT LITTLE TINY, UNSIGHTLY PIMPLES THAT WENT AWAY AROUND 12/19/04. I AM STILL COUGHING.THE DEALERSHIP AUTHORIZED US TO GET A RENTAL CAR FOR THE DURATION. (YOUR FORM WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER "DEVILLE" AS THE MODEL OF THE CADILLAC!). *AK

The 2003 Seville is a great car with unique style and some fantastic features. As the price has dropped, it has become more affordable. The North star motor can be a pleasant surprise, but like any vehicle, there are strengths and weaknesses. It's important to note that the car is a driving computer, and if you're not aware of this, it can be a bit of a nightmare to repair due to the sensors and electronic hardware that run the car. However, the car is a marvel, and the technology in it has laid the groundwork for future Cadillacs. As a mechanic, I love mine with 96,000 miles, and I highly recommend getting one if you see it for sale.

Although I have always been a fan of Cadillac, my recent experience with this particular dealer has left me disappointed. Despite the fact that the car always starts, I have had to deal with major radiator and engine problems, which have required me to visit the dealer five times. Additionally, the front shocks have broken and I have had to spend a significant amount of money on repairs. These issues have led me to reconsider purchasing another Cadillac in the future.
-
My first luxury car, and I think I picked a winner. Although the car had some build issues at first, such as the speakers, driver side heated seat, and driving sensors, the staff at the Cadillac dealership were always helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Once all the bugs were worked out, the car has been great. Taking this car on a road trip is a dream, as the performance/comfort ratio truly lives up to the Cadillac name.

I purchased this car for my wife, who has a bad back. During our trip to Branson, MO, we were able to achieve 28 mpg on the way there and 27 mpg on the way back. The car is incredibly comfortable and quiet, making for a pleasant ride. Although we initially experienced an air leak in the windshield due to an improper replacement, the issue was resolved and the car is now very quiet. The Michelin Symetry tires provide a smooth ride. As a lease return car, we did have to make a few minor fixes, but for the price, it is the best luxury car we have ever owned. There are a few scrapes on the lower front bumper, as the car sits quite low to the ground, but it is still a joy to drive around town and on the road. The wheelbase is a bit longer than our Buick, but the car handles beautifully whether we punch it or baby it. We are thoroughly enjoying this car and are already considering a Cadillac for our next purchase.
-
It's fast, comfortable, good-looking, and draws looks from the crowd. What more could you ask for in a luxury sedan?

I recently traded in my car after two years. Although it had the most beautiful interior of any vehicle I've ever owned, it unfortunately started having issues after the warranty expired. The water pump went at 51K, the seat warmer at 53K, the seat control at 57K, and a sensor in the transmission at 66k that would have cost $2K to replace (although I don't think anything was actually wrong with the transmission). This last issue was the final straw, and I decided to sell it. However, my partner and I still enjoyed using it as a wonderful road cruiser.

The car is very comfortable on long trips and handles well. However, when I try to keep up with traffic and reach speeds of 82 to 85, it vibrates slightly. The dealer has attempted to fix the issue, but unfortunately, without success. Despite this, the car is still beautiful and performs well at lower speeds.
