1993 Cadillac Seville problems
The Cadillac Seville is a mid-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac from the 1976 to 2004 model years as a smaller-sized, premium model. It was replaced by the STS in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
Origin of the name
The name of "Cadillac's first small car" was selected over a revival of LaSalle or the GM design staff's preference, LaScala, primarily because, as noted by GM Marketing Director Gordon Horsburgh, "It had no negatives." The initial suggestion was "Leland" in honor of one of the make's founders but it was rejected because most buyers wouldn't understand the reference and Henry Leland had also founded rival Lincoln.
Hundreds of suggestions were considered: after extensive research, LaSalle was the top pick with St. Moritz a distant second, trailed further by Seville. A troubled past (LaSalle) and difficult pronunciation (St. Moritz) led to the eventual selection of the Seville nameplate.
Seville is the name of a Spanish province and its capital, renowned for its history and treasures of art and architecture. Cadillac had first used the nameplate for a two-door hardtop version of the 1956 Eldorado. 1960 was the last model year for the Eldorado Seville, returning in 1967 under a different name.

Common 1993 Cadillac Seville problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 1993 Cadillac Seville, several common problems have been identified:
- Wiring Issues in the Steering Column: Problems with wires in the steering column connecting to the ignition lock cylinder can occur, leading to issues with the anti-theft system and causing the vehicle to fail to start. A full replacement of the ignition lock cylinder for this problem can cost between $145 to $173.
- Cooling System Leaks: The water pump or radiator in the Cadillac Seville may start to leak coolant, potentially causing the engine to overheat and leading to a blown head gasket. Repairing a blown head gasket can result in significant repair costs.
- Crankshaft Position Sensor Failure: The crankshaft position sensor in the Cadillac Seville can fail, causing the engine to stall intermittently. Replacing the crankshaft position sensor can cost between $218 to $304.
- Power Window Regulator Failure: Owners have reported issues with power window regulators failing, causing windows to fall into the door and not roll back up. The replacement cost for window regulators can range from $538 to $579.
- Anti-Theft System Malfunction: Problems with the anti-theft system can occur, leading to the vehicle refusing to start. A diagnosis is needed to address this issue, and a complete ignition switch replacement can cost between $172 to $206.
These common problems highlight various areas of concern for owners of the 1993 Cadillac Seville, ranging from issues with the vehicle's heating and cooling systems to electrical and mechanical components. Addressing these problems promptly can help maintain the performance and reliability of the Cadillac Seville.

Great riding car! I really enjoy the powerful motor. However, I have been experiencing some issues with the fuel injection system. I took it to a Cadillac technician, but unfortunately, they were unable to determine the cause of the problem. They did charge me $1800 to install a kit on the fuel injection housing, but it still backfires when starting.

This has been the most reliable car you've ever had. It's ten years old and you haven't had any problems with it. You get your standard oil change and that's all. It still looks great and drives great!
-
Not only does the Cadillac Seville house the best engine ever made, but it's also a blast to drive. The comfort is amazing, the power is astonishing and yet you still can get 27 MPG on the highway. Simply put, it's the best car I've ever owned.

Eleven years of roomy, comfortable, powerful head turning pleasure. Maintenance has been minimal, including brake pads, oil changes, one radiator hose, and one radiator replacement in the tenth year. It's no surprise that MT selected this model as Car of the Year for the second consecutive year in 1993. All this with an annual depreciation cost of about $2,600 per year.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my STS. I purchased it back in September of '98 and it had 93,000 miles on it. Now, it has 153,000 miles and I'm happy to say that it's still running great! I did the first tuneup at 120,000 miles and have always followed the dealer service recommendations (except for the tuneup, which I did because the car was running a little rough at 120K). While the dealer service can be a bit pricey, I believe it's worth it. The only major repair I've had to do was replace the radiator at 140,000 miles, but other than that, it's just been normal maintenance. Overall, I think it's a great car and I'm actually planning on purchasing another one this fall. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the car I recently purchased from the original owner. While it has had some challenges, I've been able to replace a number of parts including the gas tank, brake lines, ball joints, brakes, tires, transmission, antenna motor and antenna, radiator, water pumps, trans cooling fan, shocks, and exhaust system. Although it has overheated twice, I find it fun to drive when it's working properly. However, I would caution against purchasing this car without being aware of its history. Thanks for listening!

I recently purchased this car with 112000 miles on it. The previous owner took great care of it and had it serviced every 3k miles at the Cadillac dealership. I absolutely love driving this car on the freeway as it gets an impressive 30 mpg on premium fuel. The ride is smooth and comfortable, and the car is just as quiet on the inside as some of the newer luxury cars I've rented in the past (such as Lexus, Benz, and BMW). The 4.9 engine provides great power, although it can be a bit much from a dead stop (since it's front-wheel drive), but it's perfect for passing. There is a small oil leak that needs to be fixed, which seems to be coming from the timing chain cover (typical GM issue). Additionally, the air conditioning compressor recently went down, but it's a relatively easy $300 fix if you're willing to do it yourself. The only issue I've had with the car is that the factory Bose CD player tends to skip in cold weather. Overall, I have no complaints and would definitely consider buying another Cadillac.

I purchased this car from the original owner, who was an older lady that took great care of it. At the time of purchase, the car had only 32K miles, but after 9 months, it has now reached 42K miles. Unfortunately, I have had to spend well over $4000 on repairs, including a new battery, radiator, AC compressor, alternator, bushings, starter, electrical work, antenna motor, and a transmission modulator, which cost over $2000 at the dealer. Despite my negative experience with this used GM car, I have since purchased a 98 Lexus GS400, and the difference is remarkable. The Lexus is a superior car in every way. It's a shame that American car manufacturers can't seem to compete with the Japanese in terms of quality.

This was a great car! I sold mine 2 years ago because it had 175k miles on it, but it still ran smoothly until the end. It was comfortable on both surface streets and highways. I did have some issues with the thermostat and overheating, but other than that, there were never any serious problems. The V-8 engine was impressive and could really get up and go, even achieving 25+ mpg on the highway. The handling was good, but at speeds over 90mph, it became a bit worrisome. However, this car was never meant for high-speed chases, it was meant for cruising in comfort, and it did that very well!
